Lexus Europe sales increased by 2% in 2021, consolidating a record share of 2.3% in a premium market that contracted by 2% vs. 2020 on the back of pandemic-related and global supply constraints.
The strongest growth was recorded by the LC flagship coupe (+53%), thanks to the successful market introduction of the LC Convertible. The Lexus flagship sedan, the LS, also progressed significantly (+46%) following a significant model refresh in early 2021.
The UX range recorded a significant increase of 25% mainly thanks to the new UX 300e, Lexus first battery electric model. Sales of the ES business sedan also increased by 19%.
Overall, the Lexus SUV range represented 87% of Lexus sales in Europe, led by UX (21,144 units), NX (19,493 units) and RX (18,346 units).
Electrified vehicles accounted for no less than 96% of Lexus sales in Western Europe. Since the introduction of the first Lexus hybrid model, the RX 400h in 2005, Lexus Europe has sold more than half a million electrified vehicles in the region.
Customer deliveries of the all-new, second generation NX start in January 2022, and will lead to a significant increase of Lexus sales this year. The all-new NX opens the next chapter for the Lexus brand. It heralds new directions in exterior and cabin design and sets new benchmarks in the segment with its highly efficient new powertrains, including Lexus’ first plug-in hybrid electric. It also features new connected and safety technologies, and a leap forward in dynamic performance that delivers a greater and more rewarding connection between driver and machine.
In the first half of 2022, Lexus will reveal its first BEV on a dedicated platform, the RZ 450e. This vehicle will take the driving experience to the next level, with the introduction of our exclusive new drive force control technology, DIRECT 4, and a cutting-edge steer-by-wire system.
In upcoming years, Lexus will also bring a sustained flow of product launches, with no less than 20 new or renewed models by 2025 – a large majority of them under the banner of “Lexus Electrified”, the brand’s vision for leveraging the potential of electrified powertrains to reinvent the joys of driving.
*Lexus Europe sales include Western Europe (European Union countries, UK, Norway, Iceland and Switzerland), as well as the following Eastern markets: Russia, Ukraine, Kazakhstan, Georgia, Azerbaijan, Turkey and Israel.
