Lexus and inrix launch pioneering parking and traffic navigation service on the new lexus is

INRIX and Lexus announced today the launch of a real-time parking and traffic navigation service in the all-new Lexus IS. The Lexus IS is the first vehicle to feature such a service as standard on its premium navigation multimedia system.

"Lexus drivers expect high performance luxury vehicles, capable of making smarter, more fuel- and time-efficient journeys, said Paul Van der Burgh, Director of Lexus Europe, adding: "Our aim is to provide Lexus drivers in Europe with a navigation system that smartly routes them around traffic and finds them the best place to park once they arrive at their destination."

"There's nothing more frustrating than owning one of the most advanced pieces of consumer design and engineering on the planet, only to find yourself stuck in traffic or circling the block looking for parking," said Bryan Mistele, president and CEO of INRIX. "We believe dynamic, data driven services in the connected car that can be updated similarly to how consumers update apps on their phone are integral to improving mobility for the world's 1 billion drivers."

Real-time parking SERVICE

INRIX Park goes beyond static parking points of interest (POIs) to provide Lexus IS owners with the benefit of navigating directly to the least expensive available parking location closest to their destination. The service provides pricing and other information for more than 42,000 car parks across Europe in a service that's continuously updated as more locations and car park details become available. Additionally, real-time information about the number of available parking spots is offered in a growing number of connected car parks in various European cities.

Experts estimate up to 12% of all urban traffic is created by people looking for parking[1]. In fact, a global survey of commuters in 20 international cities found that nearly six out of 10 drivers has abandoned their search for a parking space at least once and drivers often spend an average of nearly 20 minutes in pursuit of a coveted spot.[2]

Real-time traffic navigation

Drivers of the new Lexus IS will also enjoy real-time traffic powered navigation in most European countries. They will be guided to their destination through the fastest available route avoiding accidents, incidents, road closures and other traffic causing delays. This traffic service is also extended to secondary roads.

INRIX analyses data from a unique combination of sources including road sensor information, accident and incident information, weather, events and its own crowd-sourced network of millions of vehicles and devices to provide real-time traffic information. The company's traffic intelligence platform will provide updated information to Lexus drivers over digital broadcast every minute ensuring they are alerted to accidents and other incidents as soon as they occur.
