Landmark achievement falls in Lexus’ 30th anniversary year in Europe*

Brand debuted with a single model in 1990

Today’s success founded on self-charging hybrid electric power, distinctive styling and industry-leading customer care and service

Lexus has reached the milestone of one million vehicle sales in Europe, the cumulative total breaking through seven figures in September. It is a timely achievement, coinciding with the 30th anniversary of Lexus’ launch in Europe.

It also coincides with the start of a new era in the brand’s history with the introduction of the UX 300e, its first battery electric vehicle, to selected European markets.

In 1990, just a few months after the brand’s global debut in the US, Lexus started in Europe with a single model, the LS 400, and amassed 1,158 sales. It may have been a modest beginning, but it signalled the start of a transformation of the premium car market with the LS redefining what a luxury car should be in terms of performance, efficiency and advanced equipment features.

At the same time, Lexus introduced a new approach to customer care and service that has constantly set the standards for the international auto industry. Following the traditional Japanese principles of omotenashi – treating a customer with same care and courtesy as a guest in your home – Lexus has kept service excellence at the heart of its brand.

From the outset, Lexus has charted its own course rather than follow the established norms of the market, not least in taking leadership in the development of self-charging hybrid electric power. It introduced the world’s first luxury hybrid vehicle, the RX 400h SUV, in 2005, and has since continued to develop the technology to achieve even greater performance, fuel and emissions efficiency and driver rewards. Of the one million Lexus vehicles put on the road in Europe, not less than 45% were hybrids. Today, hybrids feature across the Lexus model range, with sales increasing steadily – currently accounting for 96% of the total in Western European markets.

Lexus has also closely followed the changing needs and preferences of customers, developing new models that are well in tune with market trends. This has brought a focus on SUV crossover models, of which Lexus already sold 550 thousand units in Europe. Today the line-up features the RX, the model which effectively originated the luxury SUV market, the purpose-designed seven-seat RX L; the mid-size NX; and, launched in 2019, the compact UX urban crossover, which has quickly become the brand’s best-seller in Europe. In Russia and other Eastern markets, Lexus also sells the full-size LX and the rugged GX models. Together, these models represent today more than 80% of Lexus sales in Europe.

The importance of driver rewards has not been neglected, witnessed in a series of performance-focused models bearing the Lexus “F” designation, including the hand-built, ultra-exclusive LFA V10 supercar and the RC F coupe, which today competes in international GT racing. The spirit of these special models feeds directly into the standard model ranges in the form of the sports-styled and engineered F SPORT versions.

Lexus has also evolved as a luxury brand beyond the automotive world, promoting excellence in craftsmanship, supporting exciting emerging design talent through the international Lexus Design Award and helping its customers discover and enjoy amazing experiences.

*Lexus Europe sales include Western Europe (European Union countries, UK, Norway, Iceland and Switzerland), as well as the following Eastern markets: Russia, Ukraine, Kazakhstan, Caucasus region, Turkey and Israel.

The brand, which launched in 1989, offered its first SUV (the LX) back in 1996. Two years later the RX was introduced, paving the way for the luxury crossover segment that would become the single most popular category for premium car buyers. As consumer tastes evolved globally, Lexus added the rugged GX SUV, NX mid-size crossover and UX urban crossover to its range. Now representing about two-thirds of total Lexus sales, the Japanese luxury brand offers its SUV and crossovers in 90 markets around the world.

European sales of Lexus hybrid SUVs have passed the milestone of a quarter of a million units. The total, recorded at the end of February, represents cumulative sales since the introduction of the RX 400h in 2005, the world’s first luxury hybrid vehicle.

Lexus was an industry pioneer in originating the concept of a luxury SUV with the launch of the original RX model in 1998. Since that ground-breaking innovation, it has introduced new models and constantly improved the performance of its market-leading hybrid electric technology. With more vehicles to choose from and growing customer demand for electrified powertrains that offer superior efficiency, growth in annual sales volumes has accelerated.

As the longest-established model, the RX large luxury SUV accounts for more than half the hybrid sales total, with 127,203 units. Now in its fourth generation, the RX has the added appeal of a seven-seat version, the RX L.

The mid-size NX, launched in 2014, has gained 101,137 hybrid sales, while the most recent addition to the line-up, the UX compact crossover, has enjoyed a strong start since its arrival in 2019 with 22,171 sales and the status of the brand’s current best-selling model.

lexus,RX 450h,2020 RX,NX 300h,2019 UX,Corporate,ux 300e,Sales,milestone,hybrid

In just six years, Lexus has more than doubled its European sales volume

Self-charging hybrid vehicles accounted for 96% of the company’s sales in Western Europe* in the past year

</pp:summary>

Lexus Europe set a new sales record in 2019 and achieved a sixth consecutive year of growth with 87,206 vehicles sold. An increase of 14% on 2018’s performance, this makes the company one of the region’s fastest-growing automotive brands.

Lexus began 2019 with two critical new product launches: the new UX, which marked the brand’s debut in the luxury compact crossover market, and the new generation ES business sedan, which introduced the ES model range to Western Europe for the first time.

Both models performed strongly. With 20,943 units sold, the UX achieved a 5% premium segment share, the highest of any Lexus vehicle on the European market. ES sales more than tripled, rising by 238% thanks to a strong response to its launch in Western Europe (4,292 units sold) and a reinforced presence in Eastern markets (2,317 units, +33%).

In another major product update, Lexus introduced the new RX in October, which secured a 23% sales increase for the luxury SUV in the final quarter of 2019.

The NX mid-size crossover was again the year’s best-seller with 24,309 vehicles sold, contributing to an overall 26% increase in Lexus crossover and SUV sales to 69,449 units. Since 2000, Lexus has sold more than half a million SUVs in Europe.

With a record 58,149 self-charging hybrid vehicles sold in Europe in 2019, Lexus continues to lead the shift to electrified powertrain technologies in the premium car market. Self-charging hybrids represent 96% of Lexus sales in Western Europe.

This year, Lexus will launch its first battery electric vehicle (BEV), the UX 300e. The range of Lexus electrified models will be expanded in the coming years, with plug-in hybrid technology and a new, dedicated BEV model platform. This is in line with the “Lexus Electrified” vision for leveraging the potential of electrified powertrains to reinvent the joys of driving.

Also in 2020, the LC coupe will be joined by the much-anticipated new LC Convertible. Together they will act as aspirational halo models for the entire Lexus range, displaying beautiful styling and providing driving experiences that stimulate all the senses.

*Lexus Europe sales include Western Europe (European Union countries, Norway, Iceland and Switzerland), as well as the following Eastern markets: Russia, Ukraine, Kazakhstan, Caucasus region, Turkey and Israel.

</pp:summary>

Lexus is celebrating sales of its SUVs passing half a million units across its European markets. It’s a significant landmark for the brand that originated the concept of the luxury SUV with the launch of the original RX 300 model at the turn of century.

Cumulative figures up to the end of November 2019 indicate that more than 501,000 new Lexus SUVs have been sold since the RX’s European introduction in 2000.

Now in its fourth generation, the RX remains Lexus’ best-selling SUV model in the region, with almost 275,000 delivered to customers. The RX also had the distinction of being the world’s first luxury hybrid SUV, with the launch of the RX 400h in 2005.

Since that first step, Lexus has continuously improved its self-charging hybrid technology and made it fundamental to its development of new generations of SUVs, including the mid-size NX, added to the line-up in 2014 and the new, compact UX, launched earlier in 2019.

Customers are increasingly keen to embrace Lexus hybrid power for its refinement, well-proven reliability, increasingly rewarding performance, and excellent efficiency. Today, Lexus hybrids can travel up to 50% of the time in zero emissions mode in congested urban environment, without the petrol engine having to be brought into play.

Almost half the 500,000 Lexus SUV sales have been hybrid models, while the proportion compared to conventionally powered versions has grown steadily. So far in 2019, hybrids have accounted for 63% of sales in the region as a whole*, and 96% in the Western European markets.

Lexus’ stable of SUVs also includes non-hybrid LX and GX models, available in Russia and other Eastern markets.

Lexus’ mid-size SUV, the NX, was again the brand’s best seller in Europe with 29,508 units (+6% vs. 2017), following the introduction of the renewed model in late 2017. The RX large SUV came second with 18,847 units (=), prolonging the success story of this model’s latest generation launched in 2015 and expanded with the new RX L seven-seater in 2018. Supported by a product refresh introduced in late 2017, the CT compact hatchback also achieved a strong performance in 2018, with a sales increase of 3% to reach 9,131 units.

With a record 45,675 self-charging hybrid vehicles sold in Europe in 2018, Lexus continues to lead the electrification trend in the premium market. Self-charging hybrids represent 95% of Lexus sales in Western and Central Europe.

“With the introduction of two new core models, the Lexus ES business sedan and the UX compact crossover, 2019 promises to be another growth year for Lexus in Europe, on our way to meet our goal of selling 100,000 Lexus vehicles in Europe by 2020”, said Pascal Ruch, Head of Lexus Europe.

Lexus global mid-year sales reached 327,838 vehicles (+7% vs. 2017)

Lexus Europe* sold 38,543 vehicles in the same period (+7% vs. 2017)

GLOBAL SALES

Lexus International today announced it sold 327,838 vehicles worldwide in the first six months of 2018 (January to June). This sales performance represents a 7% increase compared to the same sales period last year (January to June 2017). The 2018 calendar year sales performance so far reflects the effort to match increased consumer demand for SUVs with a corresponding increase in production, enabling consumers to find the right vehicle, at the right place, at the right time.

“2018 will be another key year for us as we continue to craft amazing experiences for all our guests across the world, through our vehicles as well as our world-class guest experience. This year, we saw the all-new seventh generation ES sedan and the new UX crossover join the Lexus line-up, and ready to attract a broader audience to the brand.

Meanwhile, we are furthering the development of distinctive vehicles, which will inherit and expand on the dynamic design and performance pioneered by the LC and LS. I can’t wait for our guests to experience what’s next.” said Lexus International President Yoshihiro Sawa.

As the segment earning substantial consumer attention, Lexus luxury SUVs were strong performers in the 90-plus markets where Lexus is available, totalling 200,880 global sales during the first half of the year versus 126,957 passenger cars sold. Globally, the line-up of Lexus luxury SUVs accounted for 61% of the brand’s total sales during the first 6 months of 2018.

With both the ES and UX reaching showrooms in 2019, the second half of 2018 will not see a sales benefit brought by their competitive combination of style, dynamics and efficiency, yet the early success of LS will be nurtured with global marketing support and an ongoing flagship message that began with the debut of the all-new LC.

LEXUS EUROPE SALES

Lexus continued growing at a steady pace in Europe in the first half of 2018. In a flat premium market, Lexus sales have increased by 7% to reach 38,543 units.

With 24,029 self-charging hybrid vehicles sold in Europe in the first half of 2018 (+5% vs. Jan-Jun 2017), Lexus is a leading player in electrification. Self-charging hybrids represent 95% of Lexus sales in Western and Central Europe.

Following the global trend, Lexus’ mid-size SUV, the NX, remains the brand’s best seller in Europe with 15,365 units (+15% vs. Jan-Jun 2017), capitalizing on the renewed model introduced last year. The RX large SUV came second with 8,995 units (+2%), already benefiting from the recent launch of its 7-seat version, the RX L. Supported by a product refresh introduced in the autumn of 2017, the CT compact hatchback also achieved a strong performance in the first half of 2018, with a sales increase of 10% to reach 4,831 units.

With the recent introduction of two flagship models, the LC luxury coupe and the 5th generation LS luxury sedan, Lexus demonstrated the brand’s passion for bold design, imaginative technologies, exhilarating performance and takumi craftsmanship at the highest level. Market response is very strong: the LC has already seduced more than 1,000 customers in Europe since start of sales one year ago, while LS sales already reached 676 units since January 2018.

Lexus global sales reach new record: 677,615 vehicles (+4% vs. 2015)

Best-ever sales result for Lexus Europe with 74,300 units (+16.5%)

</pp:summary>

GLOBAL SALES

Lexus International sold 677,615 vehicles during the 2016 calendar year. This robust sales performance represents a 4% increase over calendar year 2015 (652,451 units). The 2016 sales performance is also the 4th consecutive record year of sales for the globally emerging Lexus brand.

"We are pleased with our global sales in a very challenging luxury market where customers have more choices than ever. Such sales help validate the customer focus of our brand, the products, and the design direction of Lexus globally. As we continue to expand, our hope is to maintain this steady and sustainable growth, balancing the growth and sales between our established markets and emerging regions." said Lexus International President Tokuo Fukuichi.

Established Lexus operations in Japan, Europe, China, East Asia and Oceania all posted new annual sales records. Japan's 5th consecutive year of best-ever sales (52,149) units also helped propel the Lexus brand into the number two position in the luxury market. Lexus sales in China eclipsed the 100k threshold for the first time in the brand's history in that market with 109,151 total sales.

Calendar year 2017 will see the Lexus brand bring the flagship LC coupe to market in addition to a reborn LS sedan. These two premium models signal the brand direction for Lexus with their passionate styling, performance and visionary technologies. In addition, the UX Concept revealed at the Paris Auto Show in September of 2016 embodies some the latest Lexus thinking in a small-crossover vehicle category.

Lexus International Executive Vice President Yoshihiro Sawa added, "2017 will see us push develop our Lexus brand as the all-new LC coupe and LS sedans arrive to market. The styling language, performance, identity and emotion communicated by these two important models will help better communicate our evolving luxury life style brand image to global consumers."

LEXUS EUROPE SALES

Europe was again one of the fastest growing global markets for Lexus in 2016. Lexus Europe sold 74,316 units last year, an increase of 16.5% vs. 2015. Hybrid vehicles accounted for 60% of Lexus Europe total sales, reaffirming Lexus’ strong hybrid leadership in the premium market. The share of hybrid vehicles even climbed to 98% in Western European countries.

The NX was the top seller for Lexus Europe in 2016 with 26,105 units sold, followed by the RX with 18,074 units. 2016 saw the introduction of the all-new, 4th generation RX, resulting in a sales increase of 163% vs. 2015.

Several countries recorded best-ever annual sales in 2016, including Russia, France, Italy, Spain, Belgium, Sweden, Norway, Poland, Hungary, Czech Republic and Slovakia.

In Russia, Lexus Europe’s largest market with 24,120 units sold in 2016, sales increased by 19% despite a premium market decrease by 4%. This resulted in an increase of the Lexus share of the premium market, which reached 16% in 2016.

BRAND INITIATIVES

Lexus will continue its decade-plus long partnership with the world's largest design event, the Salone del Mobile di Milano (Milan Design Week). The Lexus Design Award is an annual collaboration with world-renowned designers that encourages up and coming designers to create unique installations that express true luxury in unique interpretations of design.

In the summer of 2017, Lexus will have a role in the science fiction epic Valerian: City of a Thousand Planets, directed by Luc Besson. The film's hero, Valerian played by Dane DeHaan, pilots a Lexus Skyjet which is a visionary interpretation of future transportation and was the result of collaboration between Lexus Design and the film's creatives.

The Intersect By Lexus luxury culture and cuisine brand experience space and design gallery in Tokyo celebrated its third anniversary last summer. A second Intersect By Lexus gallery is now open in Dubai UAE for guests to enjoy Lexus experiences outside of their cars, and a third Intersect By Lexus gallery is scheduled to open in New York.

Lexus entered international motorsports in 2016, with active programs racing the RC F coupe in Japan's Super GT GT500 series and in the German VLN endurance racing series at the famous Nürburgring circuit. In North America, Lexus USA will be debuting two RC F GT3 coupes at the Rolex 24-hours of Daytona endurance race. These vehicles will compete as the 3GT team on the IMSA GTD series of pro sports car racing.

PRODUCT NEWS

The year 2017 will see the LC 500 and LC 500h arrive in showrooms offering a new coupe flagship to customers who want superior dynamics and breakthrough styling in one seductive vehicle. Lexus' Multi-stage Hybrid technology also first appears in the LC 500h coupe. This innovative system uses mechanical multi-speed transmission and software to help maximize the driving experience of the highly reliable power split device used to balance engine and electric motor output on hybrids. For the driver, the 10 discrete speeds the new hybrid system creates helps deliver the sensation, acceleration and reflexes akin to the mechanical 10-speed automatic equipped on the petrol version.

In 2017, at the North American Auto Show, the all-new LS 500 debuted the brand's 3.5-liter V6 twin-turbo. Boasting 310 kW / 421 PS, this new engine breaks ground in terms of efficiency and per-litre output in the class. The all-new LS goes on sale during 2017.

Lexus revealed the pre-production version of the coming LS 500 flagship sedan to great acclaim: at the North American International Auto show the LS earned an "Eyes on Design" interior awards for Best Interior Design. This award comes on the heels of the two Eyes On Design awards won by the LC coupe the prior year.

2016,Sales

Seventeen years ago, Lexus’ intention was for the IS to attract new, younger customers to the brand; being a sporty, compact saloon offering sharp styling, a responsive straight-six 2.0-litre engine and rear-wheel drive. As the third Lexus to debut in Europe after the original LS and GS models, it succeeded in giving the company a presence in a large and highly competitive part of the premium car market, its outstanding driving dynamics and sporting profile matched by high equipment and safety levels. Lexus’s fast-growing reputation for excellent quality and customer service further helped the IS win customer interest, and the range soon expanded to include the more powerful 3.0-litre IS 300 and, from 2001, the novel SportCross compact wagon.

The original IS proved an effective pathfinder for Lexus through to 2005 when the second generation model made its global debut at the Geneva Motor Show. Displaying more distinctive and sophisticated styling rooted in Lexus’s new L-finesse design philosophy and even more refinement, the newcomer provided the platform for Lexus to explore new possibilities that would see the IS develop much wider market appeal. The initial IS 250, featuring a 2.5-litre V6 petrol engine and available with a new automatic transmission, was joined in 2006 by the first diesel-powered Lexus, the IS 220d.

A year later, the Detroit Motor Show witnessed the unveiling of the IS F, a high-performance saloon “built by enthusiasts, for enthusiasts,” as Lexus declared. This was the first Lexus to wear the F performance badge, a predecessor of the LFA supercar and today’s RC F and GS F models. Every part of the car was honed for performance and driving pleasure. Its 5.0-litre V8 engine delivered 423 DIN hp through the world’s first eight-speed transmissions, enabling the car to move from rest to 100 km/h in just 4.8 seconds, en route to a 270 km/h top speed. The IS F was genuinely race track-bred, with extensive testing at the Fuji Speedway in Japan and on Germany’s renowned Nürburgring. As a thoroughbred, it was engineered with dedicated performance components, from its engine, transmission and suspension to its wheels and tyres.

The versatility of the IS was further explored in 2009 with the introduction of the IS 250C, a svelte coupe-convertible equipped with a three-part retracting hard-top. Not only was the roof mechanism the fastest-operating on the market, its ingenious design ensured the IS C looked equally good with top up or down, and allowed for generous space for rear seat occupants.

The current, third generation IS marked the beginning of a new era for the model with the introduction of Lexus Hybrid Drive to the range for the first time. Since the model’s launch in 2013, the IS 300h has proved by far the most popular choice for European customers, claiming 90 per cent of IS sales. The full hybrid model delivers exceptional smoothness and efficiency while preserving the driver rewards that have traditionally been part of the IS’s special appeal. The powertrain combines a 2.5-litre, four-cylinder Atkinson cycle petrol engine with a compact, powerful electric motor for smooth and responsive performance, supported by the use of Dual VVT-i intelligent variable valve timing, Lexus’s D-4S fuel injection technology and a high-efficiency exhaust gas recirculation system. The advanced engineering delivers unprecedented low exhaust emissions and fuel economy for the IS, with official performance figures from 97 g/km of CO2 and 4.3 l/100km, strengthening the model’s attractiveness in a market where environmental performance and ownership costs are key customer considerations.

The IS also offers a 2.0-litre turbo engine with innovative D-4ST fuel injection technology for both fuel economy and instantaneous torque. The Lexus IS 200t delivers 245 DIN hp with a maximum torque of 350 Nm. Capable of rapid acceleration up to a top speed of 230 km/h, its eight speed Sport Direct Shift transmission was developed for the high-performance RC F.

The IS continues to be a core part of Lexus’s worldwide model range, currently marketed in more than 70 countries and achieving sales of more than 6,000 units every month.

Sales,IS 200t,hybrid,2016 IS,IS 300h

LEXUS PUTS 1 MILLIONTH HYBRID ON THE ROAD

To commemorate this milestone, the 1 millionth Lexus hybrid vehicle, a NX 300h was handed over in Milan, Italy, by Alain Uyttenhoven, Head of Lexus Europe, to a Lexus customer, Mr Aldo Pirronello.

Brussels, Belgium - Tokuo Fukuichi, President of Lexus International, said: “The hybrid system continues to be our signature powertrain technology. We have set ambitious environmental goals for 2050, the popularity of the hybrid technology worldwide is extremely important for us to achieve those goals. I’m extremely happy that over 1 million customers worldwide have put their faith into our Lexus hybrid line-up.”

Mr Pirronello commented: 'This is my first Lexus. I chose this brand because I really value it. When I saw the new Lexus NX 300h, I've been immediately captured by its design, and of course by the hybrid technology that made me enthusiastic. I was surprised to hear that I was the buyer of the 1.000.000th hybrid Lexus, and I am honoured to celebrate this important milestone with Lexus!'

Lexus launched the industry’s first full hybrid premium SUV, the RX 400h, in April 2005. Gradually, the brand expanded its hybrid line-up by launching the first full hybrid premium sedan, the GS 450h, in 2006, followed by the most powerful luxury hybrid sedan, the LS 600h in 2007, the HS 250h in 2009 and the first luxury hybrid compact, the CT 200h, in 2011. The ES 300h was launched in 2012, then the IS 300h and the GS 300h in 2013, and the first luxury mid-sized crossover, the NX 300h, in 2014. The first luxury hybrid sports coupe, the RC 300h, was launched globally at the end of 2015. Today, Lexus sells 10 hybrid models and is the luxury brand with the widest hybrid line-up.

Europe is the largest hybrid market worldwide for Lexus. In 2015, 64% of all Lexus cars sold in Europe were hybrid, a proportion that rises to 95% in Western Europe. Lexus is by far the largest hybrid premium brand in Europe, with a market share of over 45%, or 77% if plug-ins are excluded.

‘’Since 2005, full hybrid technology has been the signature powertrain technology for Lexus. In addition to great fuel efficiency and low CO2 emissions - which lead to low costs of ownership - it also provides a smooth and engaging driving experience with a high level of ride comfort. So it doesn’t come as a surprise, that it scores the highest satisfaction rates among our customers” said Alain Uyttenhoven.

Earlier this year, Lexus premiered its latest full hybrid model, the LC 500h, which features a new generation performance full hybrid technology called Multi Stage Hybrid System (MSHS). The MSHS expands further the hybrid advantages by delivering more power, greater acceleration and traction and higher efficiency. The LC 500h will be available for sale in the spring of 2017.

“I am sure that our new performance hybrid system will make the hybrid vehicles even more successful attracting even those customers who have never considered a hybrid before.” concluded Alain Uyttenhoven.

Brussels, Belgium - Lexus Europe sold 18,058 vehicles in the first three months of 2016, an increase of 16% compared to the first quarter of 2015, in a premium market which increased at a slower pace (+10%).

Alain Uyttenhoven, Head of Lexus Europe, commented: “The second half of 2015 was marked by an intensive string of new model introductions, including RX, GS F, RC and GS in all European markets as well as LX and ES in the Eastern markets, and we are delighted to see such positive customer response. We are committed to further increase the strength of the Lexus brand in Europe and we look forward to a very successful 2016.”

March 1, 2016

Alain Uyttenhoven, Head of Lexus Europe

Good morning and welcome to Lexus!

Let me start today’s press conference with this figure: One million!

Indeed, Lexus will deliver this month its 1 millionth hybrid vehicle to a customer in the world and we are extremely proud of this milestone!

Lexus is the leading provider of premium hybrid vehicles – by a comfortable margin. We have the largest range with no less than 10 hybrid models on the market. And only last year, we sold 150,000 hybrid cars in the world.

Europe is a leading region in that respect. Did you know? In Europe, almost ONE out of every TWO hybrid premium vehicles sold in 2015 is a Lexus! We delivered more than 40 thousand hybrids here last year, representing 64% of our total sales. And if we focus on Western Europe the mix is even 95%.

Hybrid is our defining powertrain technology. It also drives the highest satisfaction rates from our customers and this naturally leads to sustained sales growth.

Looking at last year, Lexus sold 652 thousand vehicles in the world, which is a progression of 12% versus 2014 and our 3rd record year in a row.

2015 was also our best-ever year in Europe, with a 20% sales increase versus 2014 even 31% if you consider only Western Europe. Also, looking to the East and Russia in particular, Lexus is one of the very few premium brands able to increase sales by 6% in 2015 despite challenging market conditions.

Our key sales driver was the new midsize crossover, the NX, of which we sold already more than 187 thousand units in the world since its launch at the end of 2014 including nearly 37 thousand units in Europe.

You know, it’s already the third year that I stand in front of you, here in Geneva time flies and I’m still amazed by the speed of transformation at Lexus!

In just a couple of years, we have completely renewed our line-up. We have launched new models, like the very successful NX, the RC coupe and our F performance cars, RC F and GS F. And we have introduced new versions of several core models including the 4th generation RX just a couple of months ago.

We are raising Lexus to the next level with a bold and instantly recognizable design identity with a more engaging driving experience and with innovative technologies for instance in terms of safety and powertrains.

Lexus is on a roll and we have even greater ambitions for the future. We aim to exceed the mark of 70 thousand units in Europe this year and 100,000 by 2020.

Indeed, there’s much more to come from Lexus. Our design journey will take us even further we will introduce more models and brand new powertrains.

The two cars we have on display in Geneva today show you the direction we are taking.

First, have a look at the LF-FC concept. This is our vision of a future Lexus flagship harmonious, seductive, sleek lines almost like a coupe but with all the usability of a large sedan.

And FC also stands for ‘fuel cell’ – the powertrain technology of the future. It’s our commitment today: we will launch a Lexus fuel cell vehicle around 2020. It will be a highly refined vehicle, with strong performance credentials and yet zero emissions and zero dependence on oil.

The LF-FC also previews advanced technologies such as autonomous driving on highways and a very innovative interface operated by natural hand gestures.

---

And the second model standing next to me under this cloth represents our short term future. I really can’t wait to reveal it to you so without further delay. Ladies and gentlemen here is the brand new Lexus hybrid sports coupe please welcome the LC 500h!

Judging by the reactions after its reveal in Detroit earlier this year, we seem to have got it right.

As Akio Toyoda said in Detroit, in order to make this vehicle possible engineers and designers had to collaborate in an innovative way.

The starting point was the LF-LC concept that we unveiled 4 years ago. Great looks as well but conceived purely as a design exercise, with no production constraints in mind.

So our mission was simple but challenging: bring this concept to life with great driving dynamics and while retaining the concept’s stunning visual identity.

Designers had to understand the engineers’ image for the LC driving dynamics and incorporate it into their work so we let designers do several test drives with performance cars so they could better understand the ideal positioning of meters and controls and – more importantly – the engineers’ passion for a great driving experience.

And our engineers also had to integrate our design requirements. Look at the front of the car. They had to develop a front suspension that: fits within a remarkably low hood line, accommodates 21’’ wheels AND provides GREAT handling.

Also, the LC is the first model to benefit from our brand new corporate platform architecture it’s the most rigid structure we have ever built.

And finally powertrains. We launched the LC 500 with V8 powertrain in Detroit.

Today we are proud to introduce, for the first time, our next generation performance hybrid system on LC 500h: the Lexus Multi Stage Hybrid System.

What we wanted to do was very simple: expand the benefits and the attractiveness of hybrid to performance vehicles. This means: more power, greater acceleration and traction, higher efficiency and last but certainly not least more fun to drive.

To achieve this, we added a 4-speed automatic transmission to our current hybrid system. Together with the hybrid transmission, this allows the multi stage system to generate no less than 10 gears to respond precisely to driver inputs at any speed and in any driving conditions.

One figure summarizes it all: LC 500h will surge to 100 km/h in less than 5 seconds.

Really, we can’t wait to let you drive this car ahead of its launch in Europe in the spring of 2017.

To conclude, let me invite you to welcome on stage the chief engineer of LC: Mr Koji Sato and the Multi Stage Hybrid engineer: Mr. Koji Oshima for a photoshooting opportunity.

Thank you for joining us today!

FCEV,LC 500,LC500,LC 500h,LC500h,Multi Stage Hybrid System,Multi-stage,MSHS,hybrid,2016 Geneva,Sales,lf-fc concept,2017 LC,fuel cell

Lexus europe enjoys strong sales growth in first half of 2014

2014 first-half sales results show that Lexus is the fastest growing premium brand in Europe this year

Europe sales amount at 24,586 in Jan-Jun 2014 (+25%)

Lexus sold 24,586 vehicles in Europe (including Russia and other Eastern countries) in the first half of the year. This corresponds to an increase of 25% vs. the first half of 2014, much higher than the growth of the premium market (+5%). The pace of Lexus sales growth is even higher when considering Western Europe(*) only: +33% to reach 13,235 units in the same period. Record increases were noted in Ireland (+206%), Portugal (+156%), Poland (+149%), Greece (+138%) and Finland (+100%).

Lexus performed also strongly in Russia with 8,729 units, an increase of 17% vs. last year, while the premium market as a whole only recorded a limited growth (+3%).

This sales growth is largely fuelled by recent product introductions. Sales of the new IS, launched in 2013, jumped nine-fold to 6,923 units in the first half of 2014, including 5,366 units of the all-new hybrid IS 300h. The GS hybrid line-up also strongly benefited from the introduction of the new GS 300h at the end of last year, achieving sales of 1,290 units (+75%). Hybrid vehicles represent 60% of Lexus sales in Europe. In Eastern Europe, the new GX met with large customer success (1,031 units, +141%).

"We are delighted to see the positive response of customers to our newly launched hybrid models", said Alain Uyttenhoven, TME Vice President and Head of Lexus Europe. "We plan to strengthen this sales momentum with the introduction of the new NX in the 4th quarter of the year, and we are on track to exceed our target of 50,000 units in 2014. We aim for further substantial growth next year, with NX representing about one-third of Lexus deliveries in Europe in its first full year of sales."

(*) Western Europe includes: Austria, Belgium, Cyprus, Estonia, Finland, France, Germany, Greece, Iceland, Ireland, Italy, Latvia, Lithuania, Netherlands, Norway, Portugal, Spain, Sweden, Switzerland, UK

lexus,Sales

</pp:summary>

Since the launch of the first Lexus hybrid model in 2005 until the end of November 2012, Lexus has sold globally over 506,000 vehicles equipped with Lexus Hybrid Drive. Sales have steadily grown over the years, supported by line-up expansion and positive market response, going from 26,000 units in 2005 to already 113,000 this year (Jan-Nov 2012; +21% vs. Jan-Nov 2011). Today, hybrid vehicles represent about 25% of total Lexus sales.

Europe is a strong market for Lexus hybrid vehicles with 126,000 units sold so far, which is about 25% of Lexus global hybrid sales. In Western Europe, hybrid vehicles already account for more than 85% of sales.

Intelligently combining a petrol engine with one or two electric motors, Lexus' full hybrid vehicles provide an enjoyable and exciting driving experience as well as reduced emissions and excellent fuel economy.

Launched in 2005, the RX 400h was the first production full hybrid premium SUV. Succeeded by the RX 450h in 2009, the RX represents the largest share of Lexus hybrid sales, with 259,000 units sold globally from 2005 till November 2012.

Lexus' second hybrid model, the GS 450h, was introduced in 2006 as the world's first production premium vehicle equipped with a rear-wheel drive full hybrid powertrain. Global cumulative sales now amount to 32,000 units, with a significant boost recorded this year following the introduction of the new generation GS 450h in the spring (8,000 units sold in Jan-Nov 2012).

The third Lexus hybrid model, the LS 600h, was brought to market in 2007. The LS 600h was the first production vehicle featuring a V8-powered full hybrid powertrain — and still is the most powerful full hybrid vehicle on the road today. Up to November 2012, Lexus sold about 29,000 LS 600h and LS 600h L globally. A renewed version of the LS has been launched this autumn.

In 2009, Lexus introduced its first hybrid-only model, the HS 250h, in Japan and North America. Cumulative sales of the HS 250h are now close to 56,000 units.

Lexus' fifth hybrid model, the CT 200h, was launched at the very end of 2011, and quickly became a major contributor to Lexus sales globally. Total cumulative sales of CT 200h already amount at 122,000 units.

The latest expansion of the Lexus hybrid range, the ES 300h, was introduced in 2012 in selected markets (mainly North America, Russia, China and other selected Asian markets), with year-to-date sales surpassing 8,000 units.
