Taking the theme “Pushing the Boundaries of the Electrified Experience,” the company is giving a rich insight into how it will maximise the opportunities offered by electrification and new technologies to deliver fresh mobility experiences.&nbsp;</p><p>The Lexus booth is hosting the public debut of the LF-ZC, a battery electric sedan concept which points towards a new production model scheduled for release in 2026, and the LF-ZL, its vision for a flagship battery electric SUV.&nbsp;</p><p>Lexus has been a technology pioneer ever since the brand was founded in 1989 and it has a proud heritage of challenging the conventions of the luxury car market and consistently delivering new value to customers. Now established as a global luxury lifestyle brand, it continues to take up the challenge of creating cars and experiences that exceed customer expectations.&nbsp;</p><p>Lexus’ aim is to be a battery electric vehicle brand in Europe by 2030 and globally by 2035. To achieve this goal, it will introduce a completely new modular vehicle structure, adopt cutting-edge new production technologies and totally revise its vehicle software platform.&nbsp;</p><h3><strong>Functionality and beauty, without compromise&nbsp;</strong></h3><p>The next generation of Lexus BEVs will have more versatile packaging thanks to the downsizing and weight reduction of all their structural components. They will also benefit from the constant honing of the Lexus Driving Signature that has gone hand-in-hand with the evolution of new electrification technologies. The new concepts embody Lexus’ vision to deliver BEVs that present both functionality and beauty, without compromise.&nbsp;</p><p>The LF-ZC symbolises Lexus’ electrification journey, with its sleek proportions, low centre of gravity, spacious cabin and an emotionally charged design that blends functionality and aesthetics while promising an exhilarating driving experience.&nbsp;</p><p>The LF-ZL concept offers a glimpse into a future where mobility, people and society can be seamlessly integrated. The driving experience will be tailored to each individual, the vehicle taking hints from the driver’s habits and making personalised suggestions to foster unparalleled interaction. This flagship model aims to help empower people to live the life they want while contributing positively to their personal surroundings, the wider environment and society as a whole.&nbsp;</p><p>Both concept vehicles feature a next-generation fully digital intelligent cockpit that provides intuitive, quick access to essential controls in an immersive driving environment. The new Arene OS interface software will enable progressive feature updates to keep pace with the evolution of safety systems and multimedia functions.&nbsp;</p><h3>Driving performance&nbsp;</h3><p>In its development of next-generation BEVs, Lexus seeks to enhance the pleasure of the driving experience, making the driver feel at one with the vehicle. This includes leveraging the inherent inertia characteristics of BEVs and adding the smooth drive force control of the DIRECT4 all-wheel drive system (as featured on the current RZ 450e) and the intuitive, linear feel of a steer-by-wire system.&nbsp;</p><p>As the Arene OS evolves, Lexus is also committed to providing a driving experience personalised to each individual with a focus on delivering an ideal balance of acceleration, cornering and braking. The goal is to create the ultimate vehicle for each customer through a synergy of hardware and software.&nbsp;</p><h3><img class="image_resized image-style-align-left" style="width:200px;" src="https://content.presspage.com/uploads/1850/37c56f3c-b402-4f49-b4d7-779a0cb92a9a/500_lf-zc-sketch02-16x9-jpg.jpg?x=1698160599804" alt="LF-ZC_sketch 02_16x9_JPG">Exterior design: “Provocative Simplicity”&nbsp;</h3><p>The design theme, known as "Provocative Simplicity," represents an evolution of Lexus' unique identity, focusing on a provocative presence and refined, simple design. By prioritising aerodynamic performance and incorporating distinctive features and structures specific to BEVs, the design team strived to achieve a captivating, condensed, and low-slung form that instantly creates a sense of emotional impact.</p><p>The concept displays a sleek silhouette which extends from the low-slung bonnet, through the tapered cabin towards the rear. The flared rear wheel arches are accentuated, giving a balance between aerodynamic performance and wide stance.&nbsp;</p><p>The spindle body design flows from the car’s front face, continuing seamlessly along the sides of the vehicle to the rear bumper, symbolising an all-encompassing evolution of function and design through electrification.&nbsp;</p><p>Functional elements have been transformed into distinctive features, with integration of aerodynamic components such as air intakes and outlets. The result is an emotionally engaging exterior that delivers aerodynamic performance with no sense of the design being commoditised.&nbsp;</p><h3><img class="image_resized image-style-align-left" style="width:200px;" src="https://content.presspage.com/uploads/1850/c518ba2d-0574-45ba-a3fc-f6631c9cccbe/500_lf-zc-interior05-16x9-jpg.jpg?x=1698160569869" alt="LF-ZC_interior 05_16x9_JPG">Fully digitised intelligent cockpit&nbsp;</h3><p>Positioning the front occupants in a low, forward position creates a sense of spaciousness in the interior. The fully flat floor and panoramic roof add overhead expansiveness, resulting in an unexpectedly open interior design not evident from the exterior.&nbsp;</p><p>Functions that have previously been spread across a wide area of the cockpit have been consolidated on digital pads within the driver’s arm reach. Operational functions such a shifts, safety and driver assistance (ADAS) systems and drive mode selection are located on the left-hand pad while convenience features such as audio, climate control phone and AI functions are grouped on the right.&nbsp;</p><p>The “eyes on the road” principle is supported by a distant view meter, which projects information onto the windscreen like a head-up display. Digital side mirrors are also fitted, minimising shifts in the driver’s focus, gaze and head movement to monitor the vehicle’s surroundings, promoting concentration on the task of driving.&nbsp;</p><p>An ultra-wide monitor on the front passenger side can be used as an open platform for entertainment and diverse mobility applications.&nbsp;</p><h3>Bamboo CMF Concept&nbsp;</h3><p>The Bamboo CMF Concept1 is being presented at the Japan Mobility Show to illustrate Lexus’ SDG (sustainable development goals) efforts, focusing on circular use of resources while at the same time giving customers a new experience in sophisticated, luxurious design.&nbsp;</p><p>In line with Lexus’ SDG philosophy, bamboo is the signature material in the concept vehicle exemplifying the commitment to efficient recycling of valuable natural resources. Bamboo strikes a balance between fast growth, significant CO2 absorption capacity and an enduring beauty that has seen it used as a material for Japanese construction and crafts for centuries.&nbsp;</p><p>Different techniques have been used to incorporate bamboo in the CMF Concept’s design to achieve a new level of luxury and beauty. For example, bamboo fibres and woven fabrics are used for decorative elements that interact with the ambient light.&nbsp;</p><h3>Next-generation BEV characteristics deliver superior performance&nbsp;</h3><p>With no need for an engine compartment, aerodynamic performance and design aesthetics have been balanced with a target drag coefficient (Cd) of less than 0.2. A low bonnet and cowl allow for an unprecedented, expansive field of vision from inside the car.&nbsp;</p><p>Lexus aims to achieve approximately twice the range of conventional BEVs with a next generation performance (prismatic) battery and improved energy efficiency. The aim is to allay drivers’ concerns about the distance their car will take them and help them enjoy the drive, whether a city commute or long-distance trip.&nbsp;</p><p>Improved aerodynamics and weight reduction enhance vehicle efficiency and battery performance. The battery’s low profile contributes to increased vehicle design flexibility, resulting in a more attractive silhouette. It also helps secure a low centre of gravity for improved driving dynamics. High energy density is achieved by simplifying and compacting the battery structure.&nbsp;</p><h3>Advanced customisation to create a truly personalised vehicle&nbsp;</h3><p>The next-generation voice recognition system will use artificial intelligence (AI) technology to provide a service that’s like talking to an attentive and accommodating personal servant, with swift response to commands and helpful, flexible suggestions. Using self-learning functions for software customisation, the vehicle will automatically apply optimal personalised settings for each customer, each time the car is driven.&nbsp;</p><p>Going beyond the performance of conventional navigation tools, the system makes route and driving mode recommendations that are aligned with the driver’s preferences, based on their daily activity patterns and current mood.&nbsp;</p><p>Through the accumulation of driving data, it also aims to deliver a more personalised driving experience, going further than simply understanding people’s personal characteristics, it also has the potential to identify subliminal preferences that they might not be aware of.&nbsp;</p><p>Adoption of the new Arene OS will have an unprecedented impact on vehicle driving dynamics. In a single vehicle it will be able to replicate the driving characteristics, sounds and vibrations associated with different types of car, so the driver can tailor the experience to suit their personal preference.&nbsp;</p><p>The combination of steer-by-wire and over-the-air (OTA) software updates will allow vehicle settings from the virtual space to be brought into the real world. Customers can take part in e-sports using the steer-by-wire technology in their vehicle and then implement their preferred settings via OTA to experience them in real world driving.&nbsp;</p><h3>New modular structure&nbsp;</h3><p>Lexus’ next generation BEVs will feature a new modular structure which divides the vehicle body into three parts: front, centre and rear. This will be made possible through gigacasting, a process which will provide greater freedom of form. Meanwhile the integration of parts will increase rigidity, contributing to linear, natural vehicle dynamics.&nbsp;</p><p>Locating the battery in the centre section ensures there is no structural effect on the front and rear. It also allows for simple integration of advances in battery technology, making future development more agile.&nbsp;</p><p>The production process will use a self-driving assembly line, where cars will move autonomously through each stage of the manufacturing process. The vehicle can drive itself, using just its battery, motor, wheels and wireless terminal components. Eliminating conveyor belts from the production line will allow for more flexible factory layouts, reduce the lead-time for mass-production and save on investment costs.&nbsp;</p><h3><img class="image_resized image-style-align-left" style="width:200px;" src="https://content.presspage.com/uploads/1850/def9580a-e92e-46f9-aed2-0c21c8837893/500_lf-zl-14-asset-sideopen-2.jpg?x=1698160418045" alt="LF-ZL_14_Asset_SideOpen_2">LF-ZL flagship concept hints at the potential for a future flagship BEVs&nbsp;</h3><p>The LF-ZL points to a future Lexus' flagship model, offering a prestigious ownership experience beyond the car, driven by innovation in next-generation BEV architecture and software advancements from the new Arene OS. Its cabin is spacious and relaxing, taking advantage of the freedom in BEV-specific packaging and optimising interior space. Technology is applied to make traditional Omotenashi features are even more advanced, ensuring an even more pleasurable on-board experience.&nbsp;</p><p>By harnessing the full capabilities of Arene OS, Lexus will establish advanced information integration that learns and anticipates the driver's needs, resulting in a personalised mobility experience. It also generates fresh experiential value by enabling interaction with a range of societal infrastructure and services. Through Interactive Reality in Motion2, onboard sensors work in conjunction with digital data from the car’s surroundings. For example, when drivers point to objects or places of interest during their journey, the car's display promptly delivers information along with voice guidance, enhancing the interactive connection between people and their cars.</p><p>Big Data is used to manage the charging process and power supply, so the vehicle can be connected to a network and become an integral part of the local infrastructure when parked. The “Shaped by air” installation to be installed in ICA Miami’s sculpture garden, highlighting Lexus and Reddy’s commitment to sustainability, high-quality craftsmanship and human-centric design.&nbsp;</span></p>]]></description><content:encoded><![CDATA[<ul><li style="text-align:justify;"><span><strong>Lexus returns to the 2022 Design Miami in partnership with architect and artist Suchi Reddy and the Institute of Contemporary Art (ICA) Miami</strong></span></li><li style="text-align:justify;"><span><strong>“Shaped by air” installation to be installed in ICA Miami’s sculpture garden</strong></span></li><li style="text-align:justify;"><span><strong>Installation highlighting Lexus and Reddy’s commitment to sustainability, high-quality craftsmanship and human-centric design</strong></span></li></ul><p style="text-align:justify;">&nbsp;</p><p style="text-align:justify;"><span>Lexus announced a new partnership with the renowned Institute of Contemporary Art, Miami (ICA Miami) and acclaimed artist and architect Suchi Reddy, founder of Reddymade Architecture and Design, to present an installation in the museum’s Sculpture Garden from November 30 to December 4, 2022, in conjunction with Miami Art & Design Week.</span></p><p style="text-align:justify;"><span>The fifth immersive installation brought by Lexus at Miami during Art & Design Week, this year’s creation refers to the Electrified Sport, a next-generation Lexus research vehicle pushing the boundaries of technology and craft and highlighting the full potential of electrification.</span></p><p style="text-align:justify;"><span>Inspired by the idea of the Lexus Electrified Sport being “shaped by air,” Reddy’s installation — her first public project in Miami — celebrates the brand’s commitment to human-centred, carbon-neutral, and impeccably-crafted design. The installation will envision the vehicle as shaped by mist and light while illustrating its harmony with its environment.&nbsp;</span></p><p style="text-align:justify;"><span>“We are thrilled to enter this new partnership with ICA Miami and bring a public installation by Suchi Reddy to Miami. She founded Reddymade in 2002 to address the economic, social, environmental and cultural impacts of design on both the user and the planet. Neuroaesthetics, the study of how the brain responds to the design of one’s surroundings, guides her practice, and her design ethos, “form follows feeling,” demonstrates her conviction that good design, calibrated carefully to the human, positively influences wellbeing, creativity, and productivity. Her ICA Miami installation will respond formally to the elegant design of the Lexus Electrified Sport, instilling the environmental values shared between Reddy and Lexus.</span></p><p style="text-align:justify;"><span>“Lexus’ long commitment to the arts, to excellence in craftsmanship, and particularly their dedication to the Takumi masters on their team has been a great source of inspiration to me,” said Suchi Reddy in a statement. “Their environmental mission through electrification of the fleet reflects responsible leadership and I am honoured to interpret their ethos this year in our installation at the ICA in Miami during Art and Design Week. Our collaboration will blur the boundaries between art and design and continue their tradition of always being committed to the best idea.”</span></p><p style="text-align:justify;"><span>Throughout Miami Art & Design week, Lexus will also host Lexus Art Series: Art and Innovation talks with Whitewall, a program of intimate discussions and talks between Lexus ambassadors and industry leaders across the art and design worlds, returning for its seventh year. Star footwear designer Salehe Bembury, digital artist Ondrej Zunka and Japanese fashion label Hender Scheme bring virtually rendered interiors that reflect Lexus’ continued dedication to accelerating its electrified future.</span></p><p style="text-align:justify;"><span>Conceived as a platform for collaboration, the LF-Z Electrified Virtual Interior series brings together ambitious and innovative talent across a range of creative practices. The program introduces a new approach to design, a synergy between art, fashion, lifestyle, and technology that challenges the status quo of the automotive space. The collective of creatives, handpicked by Lexus, exemplifies the different aspects of Lexus’ core principles: future-inspired design, Japanese heritage and </span><i><span>takumi</span></i><span> craftsmanship, and an enhanced human-machine connection.</span></p><p style="text-align:justify;"><i><span>“LF-Z Electrified embodies the future of the Lexus brand, so it is exciting to see that future represented by such diverse talent across the design space,”</span></i><span> says Brian Bolain, general manager at Lexus International. </span><i><span>“Each of the collaborators brings a fresh energy that not only reinterprets the interior of the LF-Z but also examines the themes of Lexus’ next chapter.”</span></i></p><p style="text-align:justify;"><span><strong>Salehe Bembury: blending future aesthetic with organic materials and bright colors</strong></span></p><p style="text-align:justify;"><span>Kicking off the series is award-winning footwear designer Salehe Bembury, whose interior design concept embraces the future. Bringing his nature-inspired design approach to the LF-Z Electrified, Bembury conceptualized a virtual interior that blends both a futuristic aesthetic with organic materials alongside his signature use of bright colour.</span></p><p style="text-align:justify;"><i><span>“I want this car to feel like a seamless juxtaposition of machine and nature,”</span></i><span> says Bembury. “</span><i><span>Equally utilizing the function of the machine and the benefits and nature to fuel and nurture the passengers to their destination.”</span></i></p><p style="text-align:justify;"><span>The concept uses colours inspired by sandstone landscapes and other natural tones, setting aside traditionally futuristic materials in favor of natural materials like cedar, cork and granite. These natural materials sit alongside textiles and patterns that reference Bembury’s background in sneaker design, such as a “hairy” suede used on the seatbacks, and a fingerprint motif that is often found in the designer’s work, applied here for a personalized control panel.</span></p><p style="text-align:justify;"><i><span>“Just as he has done with footwear, Salehe has pushed the envelope of what design can be in terms of material selection, silhouette and storytelling,</span></i><span>” says Bolain. “</span><i><span>He is one of the most exciting designers in the sneaker space right now, and he embodies the bold thinking and energy that we see in Lexus’ future.</span></i><span>”</span></p><p style="text-align:justify;"><span><strong>Ondrej Zunka: seamlessly embracing future technologies rooted in thoughtful consideration</strong></span></p><p style="text-align:justify;"><span>Forgoing traditional notions of car design and transporting the Lexus LF-Z Electrified further into the future, Ondrej Zunka’s concept car features space-age mechanisms, sci-fi materials and multidimensional hues that transcend both time and space. </span><i><span>“This interior design is purely speculative, so I allowed for free associations and pure imagination and creativity,”</span></i><span> says Zunka. </span><i><span>“I wanted to make the interior feel as if it wasn’t made by humans, but maybe designed by a sophisticated artificial intelligence. I wanted to go past any known language and design concepts and forget about what is usually used in automotive interior design.”</span></i></p><p style="text-align:justify;"><span>Looking at Lexus’ commitment to intuitive technology, Zunka, through the lens of his digital art practice, renders a virtual interior that pushes the boundaries of functionality and design. The tech-forward interior imagines intelligent lighting along the car’s panels that emit an entirely visceral sensation that subtly regulates mood. Translucent silicone seat cushions with memory foam-like properties and a panoramic ceiling, crafted from brushed chrome, complete Zunka’s hyper-futuristic vision for the Lexus LZ-F Electrified.</span></p><p style="text-align:justify;"><span><strong>Hender Scheme: leather craftsmanship rooted in Japanese heritage</strong></span></p><p style="text-align:justify;"><span>With their deep focus on the natural material characteristics of leather, Tokyo-based fashion label Hender Scheme was a natural fit to reflect Lexus’ Japanese heritage and </span><i><span>takumi</span></i><span> craftsmanship. For their LF-Z Electrified virtual interior, Hender Scheme imagines an entirely leather interior juxtaposed with the concept vehicle’s groundbreaking technology. The untreated, organic material will develop a “patina” over time, deepening in color and becoming unique to each vehicle. The concept reflects the passage of time and the driver’s relationship to the vehicle.</span></p><p style="text-align:justify;"><span>In a process that mirrors the 60,000 hours of experience required of a Lexus </span><i><span>takumi</span></i><span> craftsman, the design is rooted in the work of specialty craftsmen from Asakusa, Tokyo. At the beginning of the process, leather requires trained eyes to identify its natural material characteristics for use on the project such as thickness and elasticity. Its hybrid electric strategy has yielded almost two million sales globally since the introduction of the RX 400h in 2005, while today it offers nine hybrid electric and battery electric models for sale in around 90 countries worldwide. It will also add to the driver’s peace of mind by considering safety issues during the journey.</span></p><h4 style="text-align:justify;"><span><strong>AN ENHANCED HUMAN-MACHINE CONNECTION</strong></span></h4><p style="text-align:justify;"><span>The Lexus Driving Signature gives the driver a sense of being seamlessly connected to the car’s acceleration, deceleration and steering at all times, with prompt linear responses that are faithful to their inputs and intentions.</span></p><p style="text-align:justify;"><span>The design and engineering of the LF-Z Electrified produces this driving quality, having ideal inertia characteristics thanks to the optimal location of the battery and motor. Electrification means the car’s packaging is not constrained by the driving of the wheels through the engine and transmission, an evolution in basic vehicle operation that helps the Lexus Driving Signature to be realised.</span></p><p style="text-align:justify;"><span>Positioning the battery longitudinally beneath the floor makes for a more rigid vehicle structure, lowers the car’s centre of gravity and helps absorb noise and vibrations from the road surface. This approach further raises the level of quietness and ride comfort – long-established hallmarks of Lexus vehicles – and also makes for a more spacious and comfortable cabin.</span></p><p style="text-align:justify;"><span>Lexus’ new DIRECT4 system allows for free, independent control of the high-torque motor’s drive force to all four wheels. It will adapt to provide front, rear or all-wheel drive as appropriate to any driving situation, helping control vehicle posture. It responds to the driver’s use of the accelerator and steering wheel to give powerful acceleration and cornering performance, perfectly aligned with the driver’s intentions.</span></p><p style="text-align:justify;"><span>The steering is by-wire, so there is no mechanical connection to the steering shaft. This gives a more direct correlation between steering operation and driving force so the vehicle can turn with less steering angle in response to the driving conditions. The driver will experience the benefits of this advanced technology with greater steering precision that matches their intentions. The fully electronic system also filters out unwanted vibrations from the road surface, while communicating the necessary steering feel to give and exhilarating drive.</span></p><h4 style="text-align:justify;"><span><strong>A FUTURE DIRECTION FOR LEXUS DESIGN</strong></span></h4><p style="text-align:justify;"><span>The LF-Z Electrified is a study concept that previews how Lexus design will evolve, aiming for a simple and captivating shape rooted in strong proportions and a distinctive appearance. The overall form comprises a smooth cabin section with a low nose and a peak at the rear – a design characteristic unique to EVs. The large diameter wheels are pushed out to the corners of the vehicle, helping lower the centre of gravity and creating a wide stance.</span></p><p style="text-align:justify;"><span>The designers have taken up the challenge of evolving the iconic Lexus spindle shape to realise a new “spindle body,” creating a new expression of the vehicle’s architecture. The design also references the performance of the DIRECT4 system with seamless, dynamic changes in the surface of the doors from the front to the rear and eye-catching treatment of the wheel arches.</span></p><p style="text-align:justify;"><span>At the rear, a clean and simple horizontal design combines with a shape that emphasises the wheels to generate a powerful stance. The slim, horizonal rear combination lights feature a new Lexus logo, symbolising a new generation of Lexus design.</span></p><h4 style="text-align:justify;"><span><strong>NEW TAZUNA COCKPIT AND OPEN INTERIOR CONCEPT</strong></span></h4><p style="text-align:justify;"><span>The new Tazuna concept for the cockpit takes Lexus’ core human-centred approach to a higher level. It is inspired by the relationship between a horse and rider, where commands are communicated by the use of the reins, interpreted here by the close co-ordination of switches on the steering wheel and a head-up display. This allows the driver to access vehicle functions and information intuitively, without having to move their line of sight and while keeping their attention on the road ahead.</span></p><p style="text-align:justify;"><span>The cockpit is the heart of the vehicle, while the instrument panel and other elements are positioned relatively low down in relation to the occupants. This creates a refreshing sense of openness and the welcoming omotenashi quality of a hospitality space where every detail has been carefully considered.</span></p><p style="text-align:justify;"><span>A seamless connection from the cowl to the front and rear doors gives the space a clean and high-quality feel. The glass panoramic roof adds to the feeling of openness throughout the cabin.</span></p><p style="text-align:justify;"><span>Driver information sources, such as the augmented reality (AR) head-up display, gauges multimedia touchscreen and other elements, are contained in a single module, while driving system controls are grouped around the steering wheel. This layout suggests the direction next generation Lexus interior styling will take, with the forward view expanded and the driver’s line of sight naturally drawn forwards.</span></p><p style="text-align:justify;"><span><strong>ADVANCED FEATURES TO ENRICH THE DRIVING EXPERIENCE</strong></span></p><p style="text-align:justify;"><span>The LF-Z Electrified’s artificial intelligence (AI) provides constant support and takes an active role by learning the driver’s preferences and behavioural characteristics. Voice communication contributes to the ease of driving. The voice recognition function uses the latest AI to recognise, learn and adapt to the driver’s habits and preferences, giving support with tasks such as planning driving routes and providing destination information. This interactivity will build a dialogue between the AI and driver, improving the driving experience and providing support like a lifestyle concierge.</span></p><p style="text-align:justify;"><span>A digital key gives family and friends access to the car without having to share a physical key. Vehicle functions can also be operated using a smartphone, such as door locking and unlocking. By giving service providers access to the vehicle via the digital key, drivers can enable services such as package delivery to the car and car sharing.</span></p><p style="text-align:justify;"><span>The doors use an E-Latch system. When the driver or a passenger approaches the car carrying a key, the retractable door handle automatically presents itself; the door can then be unlocked and opened smoothly simply by touching a sensor inside the handle. To exit the car, the door can be opened by pressing the door opening switch. Sensors on the vehicle monitor the surrounding area and warn of an approaching vehicle or cyclist, reducing the risk of an accident when getting out of the car.</span></p><p style="text-align:justify;"><span>The panoramic roof is made of electrochromic glass that can be dimmed when required and has functions for privacy and illumination that reflects the night sky. to reflect the night sky. A touch panel in the centre of the roof allows front and rear occupants to communicate with each other, while the rear seats have massage and recline functions.</span></p><p style="text-align:justify;"><span>A next generation Mark Levinson audio system reproduces the sound quality of international concert halls within the car’s acoustic space. Precise control of the speakers allows music to be enjoyed by both driver and occupants under ideal conditions. This will bring Lexus engineers and designers together with their product planning colleagues.</span></p><p style="text-align:justify;"><span>Here, both cars and employees will be developed through “driving and fixing” on test courses at the centre that replicate harsh driving environments from around the world. This is made possible thanks to the large site at Shimoyama and its naturally undulating landscape.</span></p><p style="text-align:justify;"><span>A new Lexus building and a “Messe” convention/exhibition centre will also be constructed, with facilities where the company can work on projects with its external business partners. Both facilities will enable people from Lexus and external businesses or organisations to co-operate in open and agile working to move car manufacturing beyond its current boundaries.</span></p><p style="text-align:justify;"><span>The cornerstone of new vehicle development will be a new three-storey Lexus building. The ground floor will feature an area emulating the look and feel of a pit garage at the Nürburgring race circuit, where people from all business functions can work on projects together, using cutting-edge digital tools for agile vehicle development.</span></p><p style="text-align:justify;"><span>The layout of the design space on the second floor has been drawn up to maximise creativity, with clay models on prominent display. Here, designers, production engineers, aerodynamicists and other members of the experimental department can collaborate closely on new ideas, at the heart of Lexus design development</span></p><p style="text-align:justify;"><span>The first-floor office space has an open-plan design that will encourage different business functions to work together and maximise individual creativity. To accelerate car-centred development, a flexible approach to working will enable employees to move freely between the floors whenever necessary.</span></p><p style="text-align:justify;"><span>The Messe building will encourage and enable creativity with Lexus’ external business partners. As well as a multi-purpose hall, it has a garage area where teams and business partners can meet to view, assess, work on and interact with vehicles.</span></p><p style="text-align:justify;"><span>Development of the test courses has started, and testing is already under way on a 5.3 km country route, rising through 75 m and featuring a range of different bends, making use of the natural contours of the land. There will be around 10 different test tracks in all, including a high-speed evaluation course and others which replicate different road surfaces from around the world.</span></p><p style="text-align:justify;"><span>The important issues of co-existence with the local environment and communities have been carefully considered in the development of the Shimoyama centre.</span></p><p style="text-align:justify;"><span>Great effort is invested in maintaining and managing the natural environment; preserved features and native plants and wildlife are present in about 70% of the site. Lexus is also working to support regeneration and conservation of nearby forests and rice fields, referred to locally as satoyama (neighbouring ecosystems that are closely linked to local human life). Dry and degraded rice paddies are being restored in wetland habitats and year-round water channels are being installed in surrounding valley fields to provide a refuge for aquatic life.                         <title>LEXUS ANNOUNCES 2020 GLOBAL SALES RESULTS</title>

While the first half of the year was affected by the spread of COVID-19 with a 16% decrease from the first half of 2019, sales from July-December increased by 2% compared to the second half of 2019.</span></span></span></span></p><p><span><span><span><span>In 2020 Lexus saw robust global sales of such models as the ES and RX, as well as the LC range that was boosted by the successful introduction of the stunning new LC Convertible. The UX 300e, Lexus&rsquo; first all-electric model, was rapidly sold-out in the selected markets where it was introduced in 2020 ahead of a wider scale launch in 2021. At the end of last year, Lexus also introduced an updated version of its LS flagship sedan.</span></span></span></span></p><p><span><span><span><span>By region, cumulative annual sales in China marked an all-time high (223,650 units, + 11% vs. 2019), pulling global sales forward.</span></span></span></span></p><p><span><span><span><span>In Europe, Lexus sold 70,814 vehicles, achieving a record premium market share of 2.3% and reaching 3% share in the private sector for the first time, while sales declined -19% year-on-year. Lexus&rsquo; core volume sales come from its SUV range &ndash; RX, NX, UX, GX and LX with combined sales of 57,833 vehicles made up 81% of total volume.
