Now established as a global luxury lifestyle brand, it continues to take up the challenge of creating cars and experiences that exceed customer expectations.&nbsp;</p><p>Lexus’ aim is to be a battery electric vehicle brand in Europe by 2030 and globally by 2035. To achieve this goal, it will introduce a completely new modular vehicle structure, adopt cutting-edge new production technologies and totally revise its vehicle software platform.&nbsp;</p><h3><strong>Functionality and beauty, without compromise&nbsp;</strong></h3><p>The next generation of Lexus BEVs will have more versatile packaging thanks to the downsizing and weight reduction of all their structural components. They will also benefit from the constant honing of the Lexus Driving Signature that has gone hand-in-hand with the evolution of new electrification technologies. The new concepts embody Lexus’ vision to deliver BEVs that present both functionality and beauty, without compromise.&nbsp;</p><p>The LF-ZC symbolises Lexus’ electrification journey, with its sleek proportions, low centre of gravity, spacious cabin and an emotionally charged design that blends functionality and aesthetics while promising an exhilarating driving experience.&nbsp;</p><p>The LF-ZL concept offers a glimpse into a future where mobility, people and society can be seamlessly integrated. This flagship model aims to help empower people to live the life they want while contributing positively to their personal surroundings, the wider environment and society as a whole.&nbsp;</p><p>Both concept vehicles feature a next-generation fully digital intelligent cockpit that provides intuitive, quick access to essential controls in an immersive driving environment. The new Arene OS interface software will enable progressive feature updates to keep pace with the evolution of safety systems and multimedia functions.&nbsp;</p><h3>Driving performance&nbsp;</h3><p>In its development of next-generation BEVs, Lexus seeks to enhance the pleasure of the driving experience, making the driver feel at one with the vehicle. This includes leveraging the inherent inertia characteristics of BEVs and adding the smooth drive force control of the DIRECT4 all-wheel drive system (as featured on the current RZ 450e) and the intuitive, linear feel of a steer-by-wire system.&nbsp;</p><p>As the Arene OS evolves, Lexus is also committed to providing a driving experience personalised to each individual with a focus on delivering an ideal balance of acceleration, cornering and braking. By prioritising aerodynamic performance and incorporating distinctive features and structures specific to BEVs, the design team strived to achieve a captivating, condensed, and low-slung form that instantly creates a sense of emotional impact.</p><p>The concept displays a sleek silhouette which extends from the low-slung bonnet, through the tapered cabin towards the rear. The flared rear wheel arches are accentuated, giving a balance between aerodynamic performance and wide stance.&nbsp;</p><p>The spindle body design flows from the car’s front face, continuing seamlessly along the sides of the vehicle to the rear bumper, symbolising an all-encompassing evolution of function and design through electrification.&nbsp;</p><p>Functional elements have been transformed into distinctive features, with integration of aerodynamic components such as air intakes and outlets. The result is an emotionally engaging exterior that delivers aerodynamic performance with no sense of the design being commoditised.&nbsp;</p><h3><img class="image_resized image-style-align-left" style="width:200px;" src="https://content.presspage.com/uploads/1850/c518ba2d-0574-45ba-a3fc-f6631c9cccbe/500_lf-zc-interior05-16x9-jpg.jpg?x=1698160569869" alt="LF-ZC_interior 05_16x9_JPG">Fully digitised intelligent cockpit&nbsp;</h3><p>Positioning the front occupants in a low, forward position creates a sense of spaciousness in the interior. The fully flat floor and panoramic roof add overhead expansiveness, resulting in an unexpectedly open interior design not evident from the exterior.&nbsp;</p><p>Functions that have previously been spread across a wide area of the cockpit have been consolidated on digital pads within the driver’s arm reach. Operational functions such a shifts, safety and driver assistance (ADAS) systems and drive mode selection are located on the left-hand pad while convenience features such as audio, climate control phone and AI functions are grouped on the right.&nbsp;</p><p>The “eyes on the road” principle is supported by a distant view meter, which projects information onto the windscreen like a head-up display. Digital side mirrors are also fitted, minimising shifts in the driver’s focus, gaze and head movement to monitor the vehicle’s surroundings, promoting concentration on the task of driving.&nbsp;</p><p>An ultra-wide monitor on the front passenger side can be used as an open platform for entertainment and diverse mobility applications.&nbsp;</p><h3>Bamboo CMF Concept&nbsp;</h3><p>The Bamboo CMF Concept1 is being presented at the Japan Mobility Show to illustrate Lexus’ SDG (sustainable development goals) efforts, focusing on circular use of resources while at the same time giving customers a new experience in sophisticated, luxurious design.&nbsp;</p><p>In line with Lexus’ SDG philosophy, bamboo is the signature material in the concept vehicle exemplifying the commitment to efficient recycling of valuable natural resources. Bamboo strikes a balance between fast growth, significant CO2 absorption capacity and an enduring beauty that has seen it used as a material for Japanese construction and crafts for centuries.&nbsp;</p><p>Different techniques have been used to incorporate bamboo in the CMF Concept’s design to achieve a new level of luxury and beauty. For example, bamboo fibres and woven fabrics are used for decorative elements that interact with the ambient light.&nbsp;</p><h3>Next-generation BEV characteristics deliver superior performance&nbsp;</h3><p>With no need for an engine compartment, aerodynamic performance and design aesthetics have been balanced with a target drag coefficient (Cd) of less than 0.2. A low bonnet and cowl allow for an unprecedented, expansive field of vision from inside the car.&nbsp;</p><p>Lexus aims to achieve approximately twice the range of conventional BEVs with a next generation performance (prismatic) battery and improved energy efficiency. The aim is to allay drivers’ concerns about the distance their car will take them and help them enjoy the drive, whether a city commute or long-distance trip.&nbsp;</p><p>Improved aerodynamics and weight reduction enhance vehicle efficiency and battery performance. The battery’s low profile contributes to increased vehicle design flexibility, resulting in a more attractive silhouette. It also helps secure a low centre of gravity for improved driving dynamics. High energy density is achieved by simplifying and compacting the battery structure.&nbsp;</p><h3>Advanced customisation to create a truly personalised vehicle&nbsp;</h3><p>The next-generation voice recognition system will use artificial intelligence (AI) technology to provide a service that’s like talking to an attentive and accommodating personal servant, with swift response to commands and helpful, flexible suggestions. Using self-learning functions for software customisation, the vehicle will automatically apply optimal personalised settings for each customer, each time the car is driven.&nbsp;</p><p>Going beyond the performance of conventional navigation tools, the system makes route and driving mode recommendations that are aligned with the driver’s preferences, based on their daily activity patterns and current mood.&nbsp;</p><p>Through the accumulation of driving data, it also aims to deliver a more personalised driving experience, going further than simply understanding people’s personal characteristics, it also has the potential to identify subliminal preferences that they might not be aware of.&nbsp;</p><p>Adoption of the new Arene OS will have an unprecedented impact on vehicle driving dynamics. In a single vehicle it will be able to replicate the driving characteristics, sounds and vibrations associated with different types of car, so the driver can tailor the experience to suit their personal preference.&nbsp;</p><p>The combination of steer-by-wire and over-the-air (OTA) software updates will allow vehicle settings from the virtual space to be brought into the real world. Customers can take part in e-sports using the steer-by-wire technology in their vehicle and then implement their preferred settings via OTA to experience them in real world driving.&nbsp;</p><h3>New modular structure&nbsp;</h3><p>Lexus’ next generation BEVs will feature a new modular structure which divides the vehicle body into three parts: front, centre and rear. This will be made possible through gigacasting, a process which will provide greater freedom of form. Meanwhile the integration of parts will increase rigidity, contributing to linear, natural vehicle dynamics.&nbsp;</p><p>Locating the battery in the centre section ensures there is no structural effect on the front and rear. It also allows for simple integration of advances in battery technology, making future development more agile.&nbsp;</p><p>The production process will use a self-driving assembly line, where cars will move autonomously through each stage of the manufacturing process. The vehicle can drive itself, using just its battery, motor, wheels and wireless terminal components. Eliminating conveyor belts from the production line will allow for more flexible factory layouts, reduce the lead-time for mass-production and save on investment costs.&nbsp;</p><h3><img class="image_resized image-style-align-left" style="width:200px;" src="https://content.presspage.com/uploads/1850/def9580a-e92e-46f9-aed2-0c21c8837893/500_lf-zl-14-asset-sideopen-2.jpg?x=1698160418045" alt="LF-ZL_14_Asset_SideOpen_2">LF-ZL flagship concept hints at the potential for a future flagship BEVs&nbsp;</h3><p>The LF-ZL points to a future Lexus' flagship model, offering a prestigious ownership experience beyond the car, driven by innovation in next-generation BEV architecture and software advancements from the new Arene OS. Its cabin is spacious and relaxing, taking advantage of the freedom in BEV-specific packaging and optimising interior space. Technology is applied to make traditional Omotenashi features are even more advanced, ensuring an even more pleasurable on-board experience.&nbsp;</p><p>By harnessing the full capabilities of Arene OS, Lexus will establish advanced information integration that learns and anticipates the driver's needs, resulting in a personalised mobility experience. It also generates fresh experiential value by enabling interaction with a range of societal infrastructure and services. Through Interactive Reality in Motion2, onboard sensors work in conjunction with digital data from the car’s surroundings. For example, when drivers point to objects or places of interest during their journey, the car's display promptly delivers information along with voice guidance, enhancing the interactive connection between people and their cars.</p><p>Big Data is used to manage the charging process and power supply, so the vehicle can be connected to a network and become an integral part of the local infrastructure when parked. The Electrified Sport car will see the Lexus Driving Signature taken to the next stage.</span></p><p style="text-align:justify;"><span>With the essential bold proportions and low ride height of a sports car, it symbolises the future of the Lexus brand. Acceleration time (to 100 km/h) is expected to be in the low two-second range and the car will have a cruising range of more than 700 km. It is possible that a production model may use new solid-state battery technology to achieve authentic high performance.</span></p><p style="text-align:justify;"><span>Through BEVs, Lexus will develop into a brand that offers a variety of experiences, harnessing performance development that only a car maker like Lexus could do, and by honing the craft of making ever more personal products. Lexus will develop a next generation battery EV sports car that inherits the driving taste, or the ‘secret sauce,’ of the performance cultivated by the development of the LFA.</span></p><p style="text-align:justify;"><span>The Goodwood Festival of Speed will take place from 23 to 26 June in the grounds of Goodwood House in Sussex, England. It is not a vehicle that simply adopts battery electric power in place of a conventional engine; it goes much further to realise the exciting potential of new technologies that enhance performance and driving pleasure, true to the Lexus Electrified philosophy.</span></p><p style="text-align:justify;"><span>Chief Engineer Takashi Watanabe explains: “Our vision is to use electrification technology as a means to enhance basic vehicle performance, so that we can continue to pursue driving pleasure for all future generations.”</span></p><p style="text-align:justify;"><span>First and foremost, the RZ is a Lexus, retaining all the fine qualities of performance and craftsmanship associated with the brand. The company has leveraged its wealth of vehicle electrification experience to deliver the benefits of a BEV with the essential refinement and driving experience that are unique to its brand. This is witnessed, for example, in an advanced drivetrain featuring optional by-wire steering with a new One Motion Grip yoke and front and rear e-Axles that work in conjunction with Lexus’ new DIRECT4 all-wheel drive torque control. The fundamentals of handling and responsiveness are secured with a dedicated new electric vehicle platform, which brings excellent body rigidity, a low centre of gravity and a long wheelbase. A powerful lithium-ion battery unit is fully integrated in the chassis, beneath the cabin floor, its quality finely controlled to ensure performance is maintained long-term.</span></p><p style="text-align:justify;"><span>The platform and battery electric drivetrain also open up new freedoms in design. The exterior reinterprets the signature Lexus spindle shape in the vehicle’s body, while the interior is a light and open space that is both simple and luxurious, expressing Lexus Omotenashi hospitality and Takumi craftsmanship.</span></p><p style="text-align:justify;"><span>With its zero-emission performance, the RZ will help Lexus in its progress towards carbon neutrality and a sustainable mobility society. Here, the focus is not just on the car’s performance on the road; it embraces its entire lifecycle, from parts procurement, manufacturing and ownership through to eventual disposal. Already new methods have been adopted at Lexus’ Motomachi factory, the RZ production centre, in the processes that produce the highest emissions.</span></p><p style="text-align:justify;"><span>The RZ is the next step in Lexus’ move towards becoming a 100% BEV brand in Western and Central Europe by 2030. The new model will be available for European customers to reserve as from April 20, ahead of the first vehicle deliveries from the end of 2022.</span></p><p style="text-align:justify;">&nbsp;</p><p style="text-align:justify;"><span><strong>EXTERIOR DESIGN</strong></span></p><p style="text-align:justify;"><span>Lexus has taken the design freedoms offered by BEVs to create a vehicle that looks significantly different from conventional cars, but which represents the Lexus “Next Chapter” design. This styling approach pursues a unique look and proportions, born from the vehicle’s dynamic performance.</span></p><p style="text-align:justify;"><span>The design concept is “seamless E-motion,” expressing the BEV’s powerful &nbsp;character and seamless acceleration. The result is a new, simple form that captures the spirit of technological evolution, function, and performance.</span></p><p style="text-align:justify;"><span><strong>From spindle grille to spindle body</strong></span></p><p style="text-align:justify;"><span><img class="image_resized image-style-align-left" style="width:341px;" src="https://content.presspage.com/uploads/1850/800_rz450ebi-toneaether6.jpg?x=1650376258842" alt="RZ 450e bi-tone Aether 6">The frontal design powerfully distinguishes the RZ as a BEV. With no internal combustion engine, the bonnet has been lowered and the intake openings have been reduced. The spindle grille has been a signature feature of Lexus models for the past decade, but with the RZ the spindle shape has evolved three dimensionally and been applied instead to the vehicle’s body.</span></p><p style="text-align:justify;"><span>The look is accentuated by finishing what would usually be the grille area in the car’s body colour, and blacking out the area to each side. The greater design flexibility has also allowed more muscular front wings to be produced. The effect is heightened by an optional new bi-tone design for the bodywork which extends the contrasting black area from the roof to the bonnet.</span></p><p style="text-align:justify;"><span>The new-design headlight units are unified with the spindle body. Ultra-slim, they give extra emphasis to the Lexus L-motif of the daytime running lights, while the principal headlight lamps and turn indicators are made less prominent.</span></p><p style="text-align:justify;"><span><strong>Powerful silhouette</strong></span></p><p style="text-align:justify;"><span>The car’s side profile peaks towards the rear in a smooth silhouette. The sharp frontal design generates a sense of power and movement, while the condensed rear end affirms the car’s SUV qualities of comfortable space and strong driving capabilities.</span></p><p style="text-align:justify;"><span>The long, 2,850mm wheelbase adds to the impact of the design, expressing the low centre of gravity and excellent weight balance. The wheels – standard 18-inch or, for high grade, 20-inch diameter – are pushed right out to the corners of the car.</span></p><p style="text-align:justify;"><span><strong>Rear design</strong></span></p><p style="text-align:justify;"><span>The BEV character is also expressed in the RZ’s rear end design, with a cool, high-tech look. The split rear roof spoiler extends the design’s rearward flow and contributes to the car’s stable performance.</span></p><p style="text-align:justify;"><span>The elongated light bar across the width of the car has become a hallmark feature of Lexus design. Here it has a sharp, minimalist look with the top and bottom made as thin as possible to give the impression of simplicity and precision.</span></p><p style="text-align:justify;">&nbsp;</p><p style="text-align:justify;"><span><strong>DRIVING PERFORMANCE</strong></span></p><p style="text-align:justify;"><span><strong>The Lexus Driving Signature</strong></span></p><p style="text-align:justify;"><span>Securing the Lexus Driving Signature was the primary goal in the development of the RZ’s dynamic performance and strengthening of the car’s core characteristics – the “three Cs” of confidence, control and comfort in all driving situations. Going further, the benefits of BEV-specific qualities, such as fast response and high precision were maximised.</span></p><p style="text-align:justify;"><span>Lexus has ensured the vehicle always responds as the driver intends, making driving both comfortable and exhilarating. Chief Engineer Takashi Watanabe used “The Natural” as performance concept during the car’s development. He focused on driving quality with a natural feel, the car moving faithfully to the driver’s inputs through the optional One Motion Grip steer-by-wire system, an automotive world first, and precise DIRECT4 all-wheel drive control. Special attention was paid to giving the driver an excellent sightline and feedback and ensuring precise vehicle posture control, at all times.</span></p><p style="text-align:justify;">&nbsp;</p><p style="text-align:justify;"><span><strong><img class="image_resized image-style-align-left" style="width:352px;" src="https://content.presspage.com/uploads/1850/800_rzp5001.jpg?x=1650377670538" alt="RZP5001">Lexus’ dedicated battery electric vehicle platform</strong></span></p><p style="text-align:justify;"><span>The quality and characteristics of the RZ’s new platform are the foundation for delivering the Lexus Driving Signature, with optimised BEV packaging, lower weight, optimum mass distribution and overall rigidity. These all contribute to the driver’s confidence, control, and comfort.</span></p><p style="text-align:justify;"><span><strong>Body structure</strong></span></p><p style="text-align:justify;"><span>The RZ’s e-TNGA platform is inherently strong, with the battery unit integrated into the chassis, beneath the cabin. This also helps lower the car’s centre of gravity, which in turn secures better chassis balance, handling, and response.</span></p><p style="text-align:justify;"><span>High-strength materials and metals are used in the RZ’s construction, with advanced construction processes to ensure exceptional strength where elements are joined together, while keeping weight down. This helps ensure precise handling and response and ride comfort.</span></p><p style="text-align:justify;">&nbsp;</p><p style="text-align:justify;"><span><strong>Noise and vibration control</strong></span></p><p style="text-align:justify;"><span>Although the battery electric drivetrain produces less noise, its quiet performance makes noise from the road and the car’s surroundings more noticeable. The RZ’s engineers and designers made it a priority to ensure the cabin environment was appropriately calm and quiet, adopting a three-part strategy: controlling the noise; preventing it from entering the cabin; and paying particular attention to noise experienced in the rear seats.</span></p><p style="text-align:justify;"><span>The engineers also applied an improved version of active sound control, which now uses the car audio speakers to produce sounds emphasizing powertrain response to stimulate an emotional connection between car and driver.</span></p><p style="text-align:justify;"><span><strong>Electric e-Axle</strong></span></p><p style="text-align:justify;"><span>The RZ uses the Lexus’ e-Axle that was first introduced in the UX 300e. This is a compact, modular package which consists of a motor, gearing and an ECU, located between the driven wheels. On the RZ they are used front and rear and operate in conjunction with the DIRECT4 all-wheel drive control system (details below) to adjust the vehicle’s posture, traction and power distribution, according to the driving conditions.</span></p><p style="text-align:justify;"><span>The e-Axles are quiet, efficient and deliver precise power. The front motor produces 150 kW and the rear 80 kW, giving a total power output of 230 kW. Both have superior power density, thanks to optimised rotor and stator design. Their compact dimensions also contribute to the car’s packaging, helping secure more space in the cabin and load compartment and to accommodate the EV battery.</span></p><p style="text-align:justify;"><span><strong>First application of Lexus’ new DIRECT4 all-wheel drive control</strong></span></p><p style="text-align:justify;"><span>The RZ is the first production model to feature Lexus’s new DIRECT4 system, working with the two e-Axles. DIRECT 4, an exclusive Lexus technology, is an intelligent system that constantly balances the traction of all four wheels, automatically and seamlessly distributing drive force. The result is stress-free performance and stable handling, with intuitive operation strengthening the sense of connection between driver and machine.</span></p><p style="text-align:justify;"><span>DIRECT4 uses ECU sensors to collect, evaluate and react to a range of factors, including vehicle speed, steering angle, and G forces. From these inputs, it calculates and immediately applies the appropriate drive torque to each e-Axle to maximise grip and traction. The front/rear torque bias can be adjusted from zero to 100 or 100 to zero in milliseconds – faster than any mechanical system.</span></p><p style="text-align:justify;"><span>With better communication between the road and steering wheel (or yoke), DIRECT4 also improves steering response.</span></p><p style="text-align:justify;">&nbsp;</p><p style="text-align:justify;"><span><strong><img class="image_resized image-style-align-left" style="width:394px;" src="https://content.presspage.com/uploads/1850/800_rzp5010.jpg?x=1650377655761" alt="RZP5010">Battery, driving range and efficiency</strong></span></p><p style="text-align:justify;"><span>The RZ uses a lithium-ion battery in a stack comprising 96 cells, with a total capacity of 71.4 kWh. It is located entirely beneath the cabin and forms an integral part of the platform. Its position also contributes the car’s low centre of gravity.</span></p><p style="text-align:justify;"><span>Battery durability was a key consideration, in particular the level of performance that could be expected after 10 years of driving. Lexus expects the RZ’s battery to retain more than 90% of its capacity within that timeframe, thanks to a series of measures to safeguard quality and performance, founded on Lexus’ long experience of battery management technologies.</span></p><p style="text-align:justify;"><span>Details of the vehicle’s driving range and battery charging times will be announced at a later date, but Lexus expects the RZ will be able to cover more than 400 km in the combined WLTP cycle.</span></p><p style="text-align:justify;"><span>To help drivers maximise their vehicle’s range potential, the RZ’s selectable drive modes include a Range mode. This builds on the energy saving performance of the ECO mode by further adjusting certain vehicle settings: speed is limited, a different power distribution programme is initiated, and the climate control system is switched off.</span></p><p style="text-align:justify;"><span>Thanks to a focus on key factors, including optimised vehicle weight, battery power and performance, the RZ has a target consumption below 18 kilowatts per 100 km driven, which makes the RZ one of the most efficient BEVs on the market.</span></p><p style="text-align:justify;">&nbsp;</p><p style="text-align:justify;"><span><strong><img class="image_resized image-style-align-left" style="width:380px;" src="https://content.presspage.com/uploads/1850/800_rzp5013.jpg?x=1650377637040" alt="RZP5013">One Motion Grip: world first steer-by-wire system with a steering yoke</strong></span></p><p style="text-align:justify;"><span>The One Motion Grip steer-by-wire system is one of the most significant new technologies featured in the Lexus RZ. There is no mechanical link and no traditional steering column; instead, an electrical connection is used to send inputs from the steering wheel and from &nbsp;the wheels. The result is instant response and more precise steering control.</span></p><p style="text-align:justify;"><span>The driver will also notice less steering wheel sway when travelling over rough roads; stable control and correction in strong crosswinds; and excellent straight-line performance on angled surfaces.</span></p><p style="text-align:justify;"><span>Steering feel is important for driver confidence and control. Lexus engineers have ensured the system still provides feel and feedback at all times, maintaining a strong connection between driver and car. There is also fail-safe provision of processors and an emergency power supply, should the system lose its principal power supply.</span></p><p style="text-align:justify;">&nbsp;</p><p style="text-align:justify;"><span>The optional One Motion Grip system comes with a new steering yoke, replacing the traditional steering wheel. The technology requires less steering effort from the driver; with only a 150-degree turn of the yoke needed to move from the straight ahead to left or right lock, there is no need for hand-over-hand turns.<img class="image_resized image-style-align-right" style="width:375px;" src="https://content.presspage.com/uploads/1850/800_ng22rz450e0027.jpg?x=1650377408309" alt="NG22 RZ450e 00 (27)"></span></p><p style="text-align:justify;"><span>The yoke’s “butterfly” shape has been developed with input from Lexus’ Takumi drivers, whose feedback helped hone every element to give the best performance.</span></p><p style="text-align:justify;"><span>With the steering yoke, the driver gains a more open view of the instrument binnacle and road ahead. Lexus’ designers took advantage of this to set the meters higher and further away than would be possible with a conventional steering wheel, minimising the driver’s need to adjust their sightline. This takes the concept of the Tazuna cockpit to a higher level, concentrating the driver’s attention on the road.</span></p><p style="text-align:justify;">&nbsp;</p><p><span><strong>LIFE ON BOARD</strong></span></p><p style="text-align:justify;"><span><strong><img class="image_resized image-style-align-left" style="width:377px;" src="https://content.presspage.com/uploads/1850/800_ng22rz450eeu-32.jpg?x=1650377620372" alt="NG22 RZ450e  EU_32">Interior design and the Tazuna concept</strong></span></p><p style="text-align:justify;"><span>The RZ’s cockpit is an evolution of the Tazuna concept. This brings together the driver’s position at the wheel and the precise arrangement of the meters, controls and displays to create a space where only small movements of hand and eye are required operate the vehicle. The principle is inspired by the small adjustments of the reins a rider uses to control a horse – the meaning of “Tazuna” in Japanese. With the introduction of the optional One Motion Grip (detailed above), the full benefits of the Tazuna driver cockpit philosophy can be realised.</span></p><p style="text-align:justify;"><span>The arrangement of the meters, head-up display and 14-inch multimedia display has been optimised and the instrument panel has been set low, further improving the driver’s forward sightline. The designers also interpreted the BEV performance in a clean and minimalistic look with fewer elements and less ornamentation, while still using high quality materials. The centre console features a new dial-type control for the shift-by-wire system, reflecting the overall design simplicity.</span></p><p style="text-align:justify;"><span>The cabin is designed as a light and open space, enhanced by ambient lighting with a wide spectrum of selectable colours to suit the mood of the journey. Lexus has also created a new illumination effect, In-ei, which produces different effects from with patterns of light and shadow across the door panels.</span></p><p style="text-align:justify;"><span><strong>Advanced technology features</strong></span></p><p style="text-align:justify;"><span>Lexus has introduced a number of human-centred advanced technology features in the RZ that enhance comfort, convenience, and life on board, reinforcing the spirit of Omotenashi hospitality.</span></p><p style="text-align:justify;"><span>Two are Lexus firsts: a dimmable panoramic roof with a special coating to reduce heat radiation, and a radiant heating system for the driver and front passenger.</span></p><p style="text-align:justify;"><span><strong><img class="image_resized image-style-align-left" style="width:322px;" src="https://content.presspage.com/uploads/1850/800_ng22rz450e0013.jpg?x=1650377579283" alt="NG22 RZ450e 00 (13)">Dimmable panoramic roof</strong></span></p><p style="text-align:justify;"><span>The optional panoramic roof increases the feeling of space and light in the cabin. The glass has a low-e (low-emissive) coating that reflects infra-red radiation and reduces radiant heat on sunny days, while helping keep heat inside the cabin when the weather is cold. The roof also has an electric dimming function, which instantly switches from transparent to opaque with a simple touch control, cutting out any direct sunlight.</span></p><p style="text-align:justify;"><span>As a result, there is less need to use the air conditioning system to maintain a comfortable temperature and there is no need for a retracting sunshade, which saves weight – factors that reduce the RZ’s energy use and help maintain its driving range.</span></p><p style="text-align:justify;"><span><strong><img class="image_resized image-style-align-right" style="width:297px;" src="https://content.presspage.com/uploads/1850/800_rzp5016.jpg?x=1650377159561" alt="RZP5016">Radiant heaters</strong></span></p><p style="text-align:justify;"><span>New radiant heaters are positioned at knee-level in front of the driver and front passenger, beneath the steering column and lower instrument panel. Provided in addition to seat heaters and a heated steering wheel, they help speed up warming for the driver and front passenger, generating the feeling of a warm blanket around the legs. Just as with the panoramic roof, they help save energy, reducing the load on the air conditioning system.</span></p><p style="text-align:justify;">&nbsp;</p><p style="text-align:justify;"><span><strong>Multimedia system</strong></span></p><p style="text-align:justify;"><span>The RZ is equipped with the all-new Lexus Link multimedia platform, with faster, more intuitive operation and increased functions for connectivity, efficient journey planning and information.</span></p><p style="text-align:justify;"><span>The system, which debuted in the new Lexus NX, includes “always on” cloud-based navigation, benefiting from up-to-the moment information on traffic events, accidents, and road conditions. The voice recognition function understands and responds to conversational requests and is able to detect commands when there is background noise. There is also a new “Hey Lexus” on-board assistant, and smartphone integration is enabled via Apple CarPlay and Android Auto.</span></p><p style="text-align:justify;"><span>The vehicle’s DCM (data communication module) allows functions to be conveniently updated or added over the air, without any interruption to the vehicle’s use.</span></p><p style="text-align:justify;">&nbsp;</p><p style="text-align:justify;"><span><strong>SAFETY AND DRIVER ASSISTANCE</strong></span></p><p style="text-align:justify;"><span>The RZ benefits from the advanced active safety and driver assistance systems featured in the latest, third generation of Lexus Safety System + with upgraded and additional functions and increased scope for accident risk detection.</span></p><p style="text-align:justify;"><span>Further advances introduced with the new RZ include Proactive Driving Assist with steering assist and a new monitor to check driver behaviour for signs of fatigue or distraction. Proactive Driving Assist uses the front camera to determine the angle of a bend, adjusting the steering appropriately when approaching and making a turn.</span></p><p style="text-align:justify;"><span><strong><img class="image_resized image-style-align-left" style="width:290px;" src="https://content.presspage.com/uploads/1850/800_ng22rz450e0039.jpg?x=1650377545501" alt="NG22 RZ450e 00 (39)">e-Latch system with Safe Exit Assist</strong></span></p><p><span>The RZ is equipped with Lexus’ e-Latch, a smooth, one-touch electronic door release system. Its operation is linked to the car’s Blind Spot Monitor to provide Safe Exit Assist., which automatically cancels the door opening if vehicles or cyclists are detected approaching from the rear. The model was first revealed on December 14, 2021, in the corporate <a href="https://newsroom.toyota.eu/toyota-motor-corporation-unveils-full-global-battery-electric-line-up/">battery electric vehicle (BEV) announcement</a> made by Akio Toyoda, Toyota Motor Corporation President and Lexus Brand Holder.</p><p style="text-align:justify;">The new sports model will be part of a full line-up of BEVs Lexus will launch by 2030 under its Lexus Electrified brand vision. Through Lexus Electrified, the company aims to fully leverage the potential of electrification to increase the joy of driving for all its customers. It will also deliver the rewards of the Lexus Driving Signature, a unique driving experience founded on linear vehicle responses that are constantly faithful to the driver’s intentions, with seamless connection of deceleration, steering and acceleration at all times.</p><p style="text-align:justify;">With the bold proportions and low ride height required for a high-performance sports car, the new model symbolises the future of the Lexus brand while also reviving the spirit of the iconic Lexus LFA. ]]></pp:summary><description><![CDATA[<p>Lexus will introduce its first battery electric vehicle (BEV), the UX 300e, at the Guangzhou International Automobile Exhibition, which will be held in Guangzhou, China, from November 22 to December 1, 2019.</p>

<p>Since introducing the RX 400h in 2005, LEXUS has been a pioneer in vehicle electrification technology, playing a leading role in offering products that possess both performance and environmental friendliness. At the 2019 Tokyo Motor Show, Lexus unveiled its global electrification strategy, called &ldquo;Lexus Electrified&rdquo;, which targets a fundamental leap in vehicle performance, handling, control and driver enjoyment.</p>

<p>In particular, the technology of Lexus Electrified enables integrated control of powertrain, steering, suspension, and brakes, realizing the ultimate potential of the motor control technology cultivated in HV. With this technology, we can control the driving force to provide ideal vehicle posture according to each driving situation. Lexus endeavors to continue providing enjoyable and safer driving vehicles.</p>

<p>As the first production model under the Lexus Electrified banner, the all-electric UX 300e was developed for excellent on-road performance. Lexus engineers kept the distinctive design and the utility characteristics of the UX crossover intact, and focused on the opportunities to build on the performance advantages unique to EVs. The UX 300e&rsquo;s high-output motor provides a natural-yet-brisk acceleration character, and the high-capacity batteries, located directly underneath the floor of the cabin, deliver a low center of gravity and 400km-driving range (NEDC). Combined with the newest connectivity technology, the UX 300e maximizes the advantages of EVs while realizing driving performance and convenience in a single package. <p>The UX 300e is scheduled to go on sale in the Chinese and European markets in 2020, and in Japan early in 2021.</p>

<p><u>MAIN FEATURES</u></p>

<p>Lexus has always focused on providing a distinctive driving performance, and the case is no different with development of a BEV. Starting from the refined Lexus driving signature of the UX, Lexus engineers were able to leverage the new electric drivetrain to even further enhance the vehicle&rsquo;s on-road performance. At the same time, UX 300e has one of the quietest cabins in its class, as befits the sound management heritage of the Lexus DNA.</p>

<ul>
<li>UX 300e&rsquo;s Drive Mode Select function lets customers manage smooth acceleration and deceleration according to their situation. Drivers can feel the powerful acceleration and instant torque of the EV powertrain as they push the pedal, and use the paddle shift in a similar manner as engine braking, through four levels of deceleration regeneration &ndash; all while enjoying a natural on-road feel.</li>
<li>The UX 300e provides excellent dynamic performance thanks to the low center of gravity resulting from motor and battery placement underneath the vehicle body, combined with optimized of front/rear weight distribution and moment of inertia.</li>
<li>The high-performance level of the GA-C platform is enhanced with additional braces and optimization of the shock absorbers&rsquo; damping force to match the dynamic changes of electrification.</li>
<li>While EVs are naturally quiet, UX 300e adds insulation beyond just the battery and suppresses outside noises such as wind or pebbles which would be otherwise noticeable in the absence of an engine and transmission. Lexus focus on sound management lets drivers enjoy comfortable tranquility in the cabin.</li>
<li>Engineers also focused on sound while driving to provide a natural feeling. Active Sound Control (ASC) transmits natural ambient sounds to allow for understanding of driving conditions, and provides a natural feeling for the cabin&rsquo;s occupants.</li>
</ul>

<p><strong>Legendary Lexus reliability inherited from hybrid heritage</strong></p>

<p>In developing the UX 300e, Lexus utilized the knowledge acquired developing the brand&rsquo;s industry-leading hybrid systems, and applied the same level of quality and comfortable operation to its first production EV as it always has with other vehicles. The Lexus engineering team delivered outstanding battery reliability, and also adopt the latest connectivity technology to maximize everyday usability and the functionality with smartphones.</p>

<ul>
<li>The efficiency of the motor, inverter, gears and high-capacity battery were all maximized, utilizing the knowledge acquired developing hybrid vehicles. By improving the performance of the entire system, the UX 300e&rsquo;s driving range is an anxiety-free 400km.</li>
</ul>

<li>The batteries are equipped with a temperature management system that operates at low and high ambient temperatures. Reliability is also increased with the use of multiple monitoring systems that regulate charging and prevent conditions like overcharging.</li>
</ul>

<ul>
<li>UX 300e offers the latest in connected car technology. By linking to a smartphone using the LexusLink app, drivers can check the battery state of charge and driving range. Charging controls are also included such as a timer function to inform the owner when the vehicle will be fully charged or to schedule the charging according to when the vehicle is expected to be driven next or when energy prices are low. The app also allows the owner to remotely control the climate of the car.</li>
