The #78 Lexus RC F LMGT3 entered by AKKODIS ASP Team and driven by Tom van Rompuy, Hadrien David and Jack Hawksworth finished ahead of more established GT racing brands to stand on the podium.

A strong performance from AKKODIS ASP Team was completed by the #87 Lexus RC F LMGT3, driven by Petru Umbrarescu, Clemens Schmid and José María López, which finished fourth.

The 22-year-old Frenchman Hadrien David set a best lap time of 2 minutes 16.612 seconds in his RC F LMGT3 on the demanding 7.004 km Spa-Francorchamps circuit during the decisive Hyperpole session. Earlier, his team-mate Tom van Rompuy had qualified the #78 car for Hyperpole.

From the start of the race, the Lexus RC G LMGT3 showed impressive performance against intense competition. The #87 Lexus RC F LMGT3 negotiated a challenging eight hours around the demanding Bahrain International Circuit to take the chequered flag in first place.

The #78 car of Arnold Robin (France), Finn Gerhsitz (Germany) and Ben Barnicoat (Great Britain) had set the pole position time on Friday but suffered misfortune in the race.

Victory secured a podium finish in the final standings as well, with the #87 Lexus RC F LMGT3 finishing third in the 2025 FIA Endurance Trophy for LMGT3 Teams in just Lexus’ second season in the World Championship.

AKKODIS ASP Team started the six-race at Interlagos from second and third respectively with its #87 and #78 RC F LMGT3 cars. From the start of the race, both Lexus showed impressive performance against intense competition.

The #87 RC F LMGT3, driven by Petru Umbrarescu (Romania), Clemens Schmid (Austria) and José María López (Argentina) – a former Le Mans 24 Hours winner with Toyota Gazoo Racing – completed 216 laps to win the race by 37.716 seconds. In the #78 RC F LMGT3, Arnold Robin (France), Finn Gehrsitz (Germany) and Yuichi Nakayama (Japan) challenged for victory throughout and finished fifth.

The RC F LMGT3 is an authentic racing version of the high-performance RC F coupe which is homologated for competition, and a relative newcomer to WEC competition, having made its debut in February 2024. The 20-year-old driver Finn Gehrsitz set a best lap time of 2mins 17.732secs around the spectacular 7.004 km Spa-Francorchamps circuit during the decisive Hyperpole contest, where the top 10 cars fought for the leading grid positions. Earlier, his team-mate Arnold Robin had qualified the #78 car for Hyperpole.

The organizers of the annual “Car of the Year in Russia” officially announced the winners of the 2019 competition. The award ceremony was held on May 16, 2019 in the Izvestia Hall.

According to the results of the all-Russian voting, more than one million Russian car enthusiasts chose the Lexus RC as Coupe of the Year.

Significantly, the results are based on the opinions and experiences of car owners rather than experts and commentators, and Britain’s motorists once again responded in their thousands to the survey.

Lexus models also dominated the Driver Power model categories, with the RX taking the award for Best Premium Large SUV and rated best for interior and comfort; the RC coupe emerging as Best Sports Car and best for reliability and build quality; the IS saloon Best Compact Executive Car and runner-up to the Best New Car of the Year; and the GS saloon named Best Executive Car.

Driver Power is the UK’s largest, most comprehensive car satisfaction poll. Success in the survey is based on the first-hand experience of thousands of UK car owners who responded to Driver Power survey questions about the quality, reliability and performance of their vehicle (up to two years old) and the service they receive from retailers and repair shops.

Lexus has reinforced the essential performance-focused qualities of its RC F coupe with the development of a new, limited-production Track Edition version and performance and styling upgrades for the RC F range as a whole.

The RC F Track Edition blends Lexus luxury and craftsmanship with the sports car performance. Its introduction is part of the evolution of the ‘F’ performance model range as a pillar of Lexus’ overall brand strategy.

The RC F itself has been extensively updated, with improved aerodynamics, reduced weight, retuned suspension and styling changes, taking the coupe to a new level of performance and refinement.

With the latest improvements, it helps further distinguish the F brand by offering fast, durable, highly capable performance cars that feature a range of technologies to help make their performance accessible to drivers of all skill levels,” said Koji Sato, Executive Vice President, Lexus International.

RC F TRACK EDITION: EXTENDING THE CONCEPT OF LEXUS F PERFORMANCE

The RC F Track Edition is not simply an accessories package, it features a precisely engineered set of upgrades that work together seamlessly to take performance to a new level. Developed with input from Lexus race teams competing in the Super GT, Blancpain GT and IMSA series, the Track Edition is designed to deliver exceptional performance that enthusiasts can easily exploit in a wide variety of conditions.

Achieving the desired level of predictable performance was made possible by rigorous engineering and the assembly precision skills of the Lexus Takumi craftsmen who oversee production of every RC F. All aspects of the car were scrutinised for improvement, but refinement was not sacrificed for all-out speed; the Track Edition is an uncompromised luxury performance coupe with the ability to impress on the track and off.

A SMOOTHER SHAPE AND LIGHTER WEIGHT

The RC F Track Edition’s aerodynamic signature is a key area of improvement. The front air dam is not only made from a carbon fibre composite material to reduce weight, it is also designed to increase front-end downforce for better grip and more precise steering. At the rear, a fixed carbon fibre wing replaces the active spoiler offered on the standard RC F. This wing is not only lighter, it also simultaneously reduces drag and adds downforce.

To accomplish that seemingly paradoxical feat, the engineers began by shaping the wing in a way that smooths the airflow over the rear of the car, to reduce drag-inducing turbulence. They then added a very slight angle of attack to produce downforce without compromising the overall airflow. The result is up to 26 kg of additional downforce, compared to the active rear spoiler.

As with the standard model, weight reduction was key. Preliminary estimates put the total saving at between 70 and 80 kg compared to the previous RC F, but more importantly the engineers focused on cutting weight in ways that could yield the most significant dynamic improvements. This led to a focus on unsprung weight, since removing any weight from the mass not supported by the suspension pays huge dividends in handling and steering feel.

With that goal in mind, every Track Edition model has Brembo carbon ceramic brake discs. These are not only significantly lighter than their steel counterparts, they are also better able to withstand the extreme heat cycling associated with performance driving. They are surrounded by a set of lightweight 19-inch BBS forged alloy wheels with a design derived from the RC F GT3 race car. Between the wheels, brake discs and callipers, the Track Edition posts a 25 kg unsprung weight reduction on the front of the car alone.

Additional weight was removed by specifying carbon fibre reinforced plastic (CFRP) for the roof and bonnet and a change to using carbon fibre for the partition behind the rear seats and bumper reinforcement. Many of these carbon fibre elements are made on the same production line that supplied the Lexus LFA during its two-year production run. Further weight is saved through using a titanium exhaust silencer and tailpipes. Using titanium – rarely seen on production cars – not only reduces weight, it also gives the Track Edition a polished look and a unique sound. That sound is worth broadcasting, too, as the Track edition is powered by the same normally aspirated 5.0-litre V8 engine found in every other RC F.

To create a more exclusive look in the cabin, the Track Edition is fitted as standard with a red leather interior, with Alcantara seat upholstery accents and red carbon trim on the doors and dashboard. The new model will be available in a choice of two exterior colours: Ultra White and Nebula Matt Grey, the latter exclusive to the Track Edition.

ENHANCED PERFORMANCE AND STYLING IN THE NEW RC F

The new Lexus RC F coupe has undergone a series of changes to boost its performance and freshen its appearance. One of the engineers’ first targets was to reduce weight without compromising the car’s sense of refinement and solidity. At the rear, hollow half-shafts replace the previous solid components, while a pared-down intake manifold and a smaller air conditioning compressor reduce weight at the front of the car. Using aluminium for the toe control brackets and the upper suspension support brackets also reduces weight while maintaining stiffness.

To further refine the feel of the RC F, stiffer bushings have been introduced for the rear suspension arms and steering rack mounts. More rigid engine mounts are used to better harness the power of the RC F’s normally aspirated 5.0-litre V8, one of the very few of its kind available in a luxury coupe. The engine maintains its maximum power output of 464 DIN hp/341 kW and maximum torque of 520 Nm at 4,800 rpm, with a revised intake routing and lower rpm trigger point for the second intake opening (2,800 rpm vs 3,600 rpm). The established eight-speed automatic transmission is retained, but with a higher final drive ratio (3.13 vs 2.93) for improved off-the-line response.

For the sharpest standing start acceleration, the RC is equipped with electronic launch control as standard, a system which automatically adjusts the traction and throttle control for maximum take-off from standstill. All the driver has to do is press and hold the brake pedal, engage the system by pressing a button on the console, floor the accelerator to bring the engine up to speed and then release the brake. Using the system results in a nought to 100 km/h time of just 4.3 seconds.

Additional performance gains are delivered by new Michelin Pilot Sport 4S tyres designed specifically for the RC F. Compared to the standard Michelin specifications, the RC F’s tyres have a unique profile, tread pattern and rubber compound. The changes are designed to reduce understeer, improve overall lateral grip and increase durability under extreme conditions.

There are subtle but substantive changes to the RC F’s styling that add familial traits and further refine its powerful overall shape. The headlights have been updated to a design featuring stacked LEDs and integrated daytime running lights. The shape of the signature spindle grille has been altered by adding a lower lip opening that stretches across the bottom to create a visually shorter front facia. At the rear, new tail lights are neatly integrated into a reshaped bumper, giving a cleaner, more chiselled appearance.

The exterior styling remains as sporty as the current model, but subtle changes in the details, inspired by Lexus LC design cues, imbue it with a new-found elegance. Inside the cabin, everything from the high-quality materials to the precise layout of controls and gauges was crafted to maximize driving pleasure.

Enhancements have been made to the RC’s aerodynamics, tyres and suspension, and there are also improvements to engine response and steering feel, all of which reflecting the “even sharper and more graceful” drive philosophy that was introduced by the LC. The new RC is more stable than ever under a wide variety of driving conditions. This provides a high level of driver confidence and a reassuringly flat ride quality, making the coupe an ideal grand tourer, whether you’re negotiating a twisty mountain road or simply making a long-distance commute on the open highway.

DESIGN REFINEMENTS INSPIRED BY THE LC FLAGSHIP COUPE

Lexus designers sought to maintain the RC’s dynamic coupe proportions, while adding a high level of elegance to the exterior. Key to achieving this was the addition of distinctive design elements, such as a new front bumper corner that flows down from the headlamps and a grille mesh pattern comprising shapes which gradually transform from top to bottom, creating an intriguing visual tension. The vertical arrangement of the ultra-compact triple LED headlamps and new L-shaped LED clearance lamps add to the car’s more distinguished appearance.

Air ducts have been added to the corners of the rear bumper, resulting in better handling stability and enhanced overall driving response. A wider stance and lower centre of gravity reflect the car’s ability to maintain high grip in different road conditions. The rear combination lamps house more pronounced L-shaped lenses that are a new signature design feature for Lexus coupes.

The two-door RC coupe presents an impressive low profile and wide stance, with its compact cabin contrasting with the powerfully flared wings and deeply sweeping lines across the contoured body. Key dimensions are a 4,700 mm overall length, 1,840 mm overall width, 1,395 mm height and 2,730 mm wheelbase.

Creating these powerful character lines requires advanced press technologies that surpass conventional production line standards, and have, hitherto, been reserved for concept vehicles alone. The resultant, powerfully three-dimensional forms constantly change in appearance as you move around the car, creating a striking presence when viewed from any angle.

In conjunction with the narrowest possible panel gaps, the coupe’s low, sleek proportions are enhanced by the use of two advanced construction technologies: a rear wheel arch hemming treatment and laser brazing. The former reduces both the thickness of the panel at the lip of the wheel arch and the vertical gap between the tyre and the arch.

Eleven different exterior colours are available for the new RC, including Flare Yellow and Sky Blue, shades which perfectly communicate the car’s dynamic nature.

The new RC F SPORT features the same grille mesh pattern that graces all Lexus F SPORT models, together with many other custom exterior and interior elements that are exclusive to the grade. These include 19-inch alloy wheels, inspired by those used by the LS and LC luxury flagship sedan and coupe.

DRIVING PLEASURE HEIGHTENED BY INTERIOR REFINEMENTS

A brushed treatment has been applied to the heater control and audio panels, generating a higher sense of quality, while the knee pads either side of the centre console have been made larger and raised higher, creating a greater sense of space in the front of the cabin. The driver’s palm rest has been reshaped and a stitching pattern has been added to the surface, showcasing the designers’ high attention to detail.

A new analogue clock, identical to the one in the LC, sits high on the instrument panel in another identifying feature of Lexus coupes.

An exclusive, highly supportive sports front seat design is constructed using an ‘integrated foaming’ method. This allows for the moulding of large concave surfaces while ensuring that there are no gaps between the seat upholstery and the foam padding, ensuring both excellent comfort and outstanding lateral holding performance.

A one-touch walk-in function gives easy access to the 60:40 split folding rear seats. The front seat automatically slides forwards when the seat back is folded forwards by means of the shoulder-mounted lever. The seat automatically returns to its original position when the seatback is raised again.

Contrast stitching to the seats, an enlarged centre console trim and generously proportioned knee pads add high-quality accents to the interior design, while further enhancing the holding performance of the smooth, synthetic or semi-aniline leather seat upholstery.

The premium quality interior of the RC makes maximum use of contrasting colours, materials and lighting, highlighting the car’s sporting elegance. The ambient illumination is angled for upward rather than downward reflection, including door trim lighting with brightness that automatically adjusts to suit driving conditions.

New ornamentation options, including real aluminium Naguri and Brushed Metal are available for the RC F SPORT. In all, RC customers will have five options to choose from.

Interior colours include Ochre, which is also featured in the LC, and Mustard , which comprises subtle yellow accents on a black background. Seven interior colour combinations are available, including those reserved for the F SPORT.

PERFORMANCE INSPIRED BY “EVEN SHARPER AND MORE GRACEFUL” DRIVING CONCEPT

Inspired by the driving concept of “even sharper and more graceful” that defines the Lexus LC coupe, Lexus engineers have sought to make the new RC thoroughly fun to drive by focusing their attention on the details, improving the car’s aerodynamics and fine-tuning the suspension system and powertrain. Endowed with a flatter and more stable ride quality and sharper handling characteristics derived from the LC, the new RC is more athletic and responsive than ever.

Suspension

The front double wishbone and rear multi-link suspension systems combine well-balanced, agile handling with superior straight-line ride comfort. They are designed to reduce understeer, ensure accurate yaw response during steering, effect a smooth transition to cornering attitude and help achieve an integrated feel between steering input and vehicle behaviour, marrying a fine ride quality with agile, engaging handling characteristics.

The new RC’s suspension has been further tuned for more supple performance, improved grip and better handling. New shock absorbers, which provide significant damping force from low suspension stroke speeds, and stiffer suspension bushings have also been introduced. To guarantee the desired dynamic performance, the coupe underwent extensive real-world testing, with chassis engineers constantly fine-tuning the package to improve ride and handling.

To complement the change in performance, the electric power steering has been re-tuned to give the driver accurate feedback on the interaction between the tyres and the road surface. New 19-inch wheels fitted with higher grip tyres also support excellent steering response.

Aerodynamics 

The RC incorporates tried and tested race car aerodynamics to both upper and underbody surfaces to enhance stability during high-speed driving, achieving 0.306 coefficient of drag (Cd).

Upper body aerodynamic measures have been introduced to support the “even sharper and more graceful” driving concept. Importance has also been placed on tuning the car’s aerodynamic characteristics to provide a higher level of handling performance, stability, and ride comfort. Details include the introduction of a new fin shape in the side window mouldings and a duct in the rear bumper, giving the car better handling stability

Aluminium tapes applied to the back of the front and rear bumpers help rectify airflow, contributing to the car’s handling stability. When the vehicle is moving and the body is positively charged, similarly charged airflow is repelled; as a result, the airflow is separated from the outer surface of the bodywork. Specially shaped aluminium tapes on the bumper promote the discharge of static electricity from the body, helping suppress airflow separation.

High-rigidity bodyshell

The RC’s high-rigidity bodyshell is the foundation for its agility, precise steering response and high levels of mechanical grip. It features large cross-section rocker panels, cowl side bracing, optimised underbody bracing reinforcement, and even high-rigidity front and rear screen glass adhesive.

Numerous specialised Lexus manufacturing techniques are used to enhance rigidity, including body adhesives, multi-spot welding and laser-screw welding around the door apertures, quarter glass and upper back panel.

These measures combine to maximise the torsional rigidity of the bodyshell, contributing to enhanced steering response and body control during cornering.

The RC 300h is powered by a self-charging full hybrid system that gives the vehicle the capability of running emissions-free on its electric power alone.

The powertrain combines a petrol engine and compact but powerful electric motor. These automatically work together or individually to provide optimum performance according to road conditions and the driver’s preference. Lexus Hybrids recharge as you drive, so they are always ready to go. Furthermore, up to 53.8%²of city driving time can be accomplished in zero emissions EV mode. The system is also characterised by quick and linear acceleration, high fuel efficiency, exceptionally low emissions and a luxuriously smooth ride.

The engine featured in the RC’s Lexus Hybrid Drive is a 2,494 cc Atkinson cycle, direct injection, four-cylinder unit that delivers a maximum output of 181 DIN hp/133 kW at 6,000 rpm and peak torque of 221 Nm between 4,200 and 4,800 rpm. The electric motor has an output of 143 DIN hp/105 kW. The combined system power is 223 DIN hp/164 kW.

The rear-wheel drive RC 300h accelerates from 0-100 km/h in 8.6 seconds and has a maximum speed of 190 km/h, yet returns average fuel consumption figures from as low as 5.9 l/100 km (WLTP¹) and CO₂emissions from just 131.7 g/km (WLTP¹).

The engine’s Atkinson cycle timing features an expansion stroke that is longer than the compression stroke, resulting in a more efficient conversion of combustion energy. This, together with a higher compression ratio and the introduction of additional advanced engine technologies, improves the engine’s thermal efficiency to 38.5%.

The RC can be equipped with six-speaker, 160 W or 10-speaker, 256 W Pioneer sound systems, both of which provide distortion-free, clear sound quality with wide-ranging sonic reproduction, rich presence and natural sound dynamics.

A 17-speaker Mark Levinson Premium Surround System is also available. This has been developed with an emphasis on high resolution and high musicality to deliver excellent natural dynamics and rich harmonies in a 360-degree, three-dimensional sonic space.

Despite its compact size, this 835 W system delivers significantly high power and high sound quality, with five-channel playback. Front centre, front right and left, and rear surround right and left speakers realise optimum consistency of sound quality for every cabin occupant.

The Mark Levinson Premium Surround System also incorporates Signal Doctor music playback technology, which compensates for the loss of high frequencies and the lack of clarity which can occur when using digital music players and other compressed sound sources, to create a clearer, richer sound, close the original recording quality.

DETROIT, MI – January 14^th, 2019 – Freshly updated for the 2020 model year, the RC F coupe now boasts improved performance, revised styling and an all-new, limited production Track Edition. With the introduction of the RC F Track Edition, hard core driving enthusiasts no longer have to decide between a luxury car for the street and a serious performance car for the track. Blending the luxury and craftsmanship of Lexus with performance upgrades typically reserved for exotic sportscars, the RC F Track Edition is capable of turning hot laps all afternoon and being driven home that night. It’s the latest milestone for the F performance brand that will continue to evolve as an important pillar of the overall strategy at Lexus.

The Track Edition joins the standard Lexus RC F performance coupe which has been extensively updated for the 2020 model year. Improved aerodynamics, reduced weight, a retuned suspension and enhanced styling elevate the RC F to a new level of performance and refinement.

The RC F Redefined

The 2020 Lexus RC F coupe gets a wide range of changes designed to boost its performance and freshen its overall look. One of the first targets for the engineers was reducing weight without compromising the coupe’s sense of refinement and solidity. At the rear, hollow half shafts are now used in place of the previous solid shafts while up front a pared down intake manifold and a smaller air conditioning compressor remove weight from the front of the car. Changing to aluminum for the toe control brackets and upper suspension support brackets also reduces weight while maintaining stiffness.

To further refine the feel of the RC F, there are now stiffer bushings for the rear suspension arms and steering rack mounts. More rigid engine mounts were also used to better transmit the power of the RC F’s normally aspirated 5.0-liter V8, one of the last such engines available in a luxury coupe. It’s now rated at 464 DIN hp (PS), or 341 kW (unchanged vs current model), and 520 Nm of torque at 4800 rpm thanks to a revised intake routing and lower rpm trigger point for the secondary intake opening (2,800 rpm vs 3,600rpm). An eight-speed automatic transmission carries over, but a higher final drive ratio (3.13 vs 2.93) has been installed to improve off-the-line response.

For the ultimate in standing start acceleration, the RC F now includes electronic launch control as standard. With a push of the button on the console, the system automatically adjusts the traction and throttle control for maximum acceleration from a stop. All the driver has to do is press and hold the brake pedal, engage the system, floor the accelerator to bring up the engine speed and release the brake. Using the system results in a 0-to-100 km/h of just 4.5 seconds.

Additional performance gains are delivered by new Michelin Pilot Sport 4S tires designed specifically for the RC F. Compared to the standard Michelin specifications, the tires on the RC F utilize a unique profile shape, tread pattern and rubber compound. The changes are specifically designed to reduce understeer, improve overall lateral grip and increase durability under extreme conditions.

There are also subtle but substantive changes to the styling of the RC F that add familial traits to further refine its aggressive overall shape. Up front, the headlights have been updated to a design that features stacked LED lights and integrated daytime running lights. The shape of the signature grille has been altered by adding a lower lip opening that stretches across the bottom to create a visually shorter front fascia. At the rear of the car, new taillights integrate neatly into a reshaped bumper to give the RC F a cleaner, more chiseled appearance.

RC F Track Edition: A Higher Degree of F

More than a mere accessories package, the limited production RC F Track Edition features a precisely engineered set of upgrades that work together seamlessly to push its performance to a new level. Developed with input from Lexus race teams in the Super GT and IMSA series, the Track Edition is designed to deliver exceptional performance that enthusiasts can easily exploit in a wide variety of conditions.

Achieving that level of predictable performance was made possible by rigorous engineering and the assembly precision of Takumi masters who oversee production of every RC F. All aspects of the car were scrutinized for improvement, but the Track Edition doesn’t forego refinement for all-out speed. It remains an uncompromised luxury performance coupe with the ability to impress both on the track and off.

A Smoother Shape and a Precise Diet

One key area of improvement is the RC F Track Edition’s aerodynamic signature. Up front, the unique air dam is not only made from carbon fiber to reduce weight, it’s also designed to increase front end downforce for better grip and more precise steering. At the rear of the car, a fixed rear wing made from carbon fiber replaces the active spoiler offered on the standard RC F. The fixed wing is not only lighter, it does double duty by simultaneously reducing drag and adding downforce.

To accomplish that paradoxical feat, the engineers started by shaping the wing in a way that smooths out the airflow over the rear of the car to decrease drag-inducing turbulence. They then added a very slight angle of attack to produce downforce without compromising the overall airflow. The result is up to 26 kg of additional downforce compared to the active rear spoiler.

Like the standard model, weight reduction was a key area of focus for the Track Edition. Preliminary estimates put the total reduction between 70-80 kg compared to the previous RC F, but more importantly, the engineers focused on cutting weight that yields the most significant dynamic improvements. This led to keying in on unsprung weight since any weight that can be removed from the mass not supported by the suspension pays huge dividends in handling and steering feel.

With that goal in mind, every Track Edition model is upgraded with Brembo carbon ceramic brake rotors. They are not only significantly lighter than their steel counterparts, they’re also better able to withstand the extreme heat cycling associated with performance driving. They are surrounded by a set of lightweight 19” BBS forged alloy wheels that feature a design derived from the RC F GT3 race car. Between the wheels, brake rotors and calipers, the Track Edition boasts a significant 25 kg reduction in unsprung weight on the front of the car alone.

Additional weight was removed by specifying carbon fiber for the roof and hood along with switching to a carbon fiber partition behind the rear seats and a carbon bumper reinforcement. Many of these carbon fiber pieces are made on the same line that supplied the Lexus LFA during its two-year production run. A standard titanium muffler and tail pipes is yet another area where the Track Edition sheds weight. Rarely seen on production cars, the use of titanium not only reduces the overall weight of the individual parts, it gives the Track Edition a polished look along with a unique sound.

That sound is worth enhancing, too, as the Track Edition uses the same normally aspirated 5.0-liter V8 found in every RC F.

In order to give the Track Edition a more exclusive look on the inside, a red leather interior comes standard along with Alcantara seat accents and red carbon trim on the doors and dashboard. Only two exterior colors will be available: Ultra White and Nebula Matte Gray, an exclusive color only available on the Track Edition.

Both the 2020 Lexus RC F and the RC F Track Edition will start production in March 2019. Pricing will be announced closer to their on-sale dates.

Andreas Møller, the fast-rising Danish chef of the Parisian Michelin-starred restaurant Copenhague, translated the #SharpYetSmooth qualities of the new RC into a dish of contrasting tastes and textures. This project took Andreas out of the kitchen and put him behind the wheel of the new coupe to fully understand the distinct qualities of the car and Lexus’ brand philosophy.

“When Lexus approached me to work together on this challenging project, I was excited by the concept of inventing a dish that’s inspired by a car,” said Andreas, “In driving or dining alike, it’s the experience and emotion that matter and stay in your memory” – he added.

Explaining his inspiration for the dish, Andreas said: “What impressed me, apart from RC’s looks, was how the feel of a sharp drive in a sporty coupe is complemented by a quiet and smooth hybrid powertrain. It was this contrast I wanted to use as the centrepiece of my culinary creation.”

Andreas’ work in the kitchen, creating a new dish with care, precision and the benefit of experience working to the highest standards, bears a comparison with the way in which Lexus’ Takumi craftsmen apply the finest human skills to achieve outstanding results. And just as Andreas works only with the finest ingredients, so Lexus makes use of high-quality materials.

Andreas described how he brings together contrasting elements to create an innovative dish, true to Lexus’ “YET” philosophy: “I always try to marry flavours which you would normally keep separate. I think it is fun to challenge your guests’ perception of sweet and savoury and bring forward flavour combinations that are surprising” he said.

Oak-smoked mackerel is combined with ribbons of kohlrabi, given a glassy lustre by a horseradish marinade. The spectrum of different flavours and textures includes pickled mustard and ramson seeds, lemon caviar, currants, borage, nasturtiums and green saltwort – sweet, sour and salt in an intriguing combination. The dish is topped with layer of candy floss, which dissolves when a sauce of salted lemons, currants and seaweed oil is poured on top, revealing the dish’s hidden secrets below.

“The idea with the candy floss is that it hides and then reveals all the good things underneath, much like when you step into the car and discover so much more than you expected at first glance,” said Andreas.

The best traditions of Omotenashi hospitality are instilled in every Lexus car and it’s another area in which Andreas’ work shares the same desire to anticipate people’s needs and go beyond their expectations. “We have guests from all over the world here but what they have in common is that they want the best experience their money can buy them. It’s our job to fulfil their expectations and give them an experience to remember. Customer service is basically easy – give your guests the service you would want and expect yourself, while always striving to be even better.”

Certainly Andreas has been impressed by Lexus, not just through his creative collaboration, but through many hours of driving: “I admit I had rarely seen one before I moved from Denmark to France, but I was pleasantly surprised by how the cars looked and felt luxurious. After covering 4,200 kilometres driving around France in a Lexus last summer, I can declare without doubt that I am a fan. Everyone wants a car that’s a head-turner, and in my experience the Lexus definitely is.”

“I like the way the brand feels understated and cool. It’s low-key, but still has so much to bring to the table. The design isn’t showy or over-the-top, it’s tasteful and just right.”

The new RC is more stable than ever under a wide variety of driving conditions. This provides a high level of driver confidence and a reassuringly flat ride quality, making the coupe an ideal grand tourer, whether you’re negotiating a twisty mountain road or simply making a long-distance commute on the open highway.

ADOPTING THE SPORTY-YET-ELEGANT EXTERIOR DESIGN LANGUAGE OF THE LC FLAGSHIP COUPE

Lexus designers sought to maintain the RC’s dynamic coupe proportions, while adding a high level of elegance to the exterior. Key to achieving this was the addition of distinctive design elements, such as a new front bumper corner that flows down from the headlamps and a grille mesh pattern comprising shapes which gradually transform from top to bottom, creating an intriguing visual tension. The vertical arrangement of the extra-small triple LED headlamps and new L-shaped LED clearance lamps add to the car’s more distinguished appearance.

Air ducts have been added to the corner of the rear bumper, resulting in better handling stability and enhanced overall driving response. A wider stance and lower centre of gravity reflect the car’s high ability to maintain grip in different road conditions. The rear combination lamps now house more pronounced L-shaped lenses that are a new signature design feature for Lexus coupes.

In all 11 different exterior colours will be available for the RC, including Flare Yellow and Sky Blue, shades which perfectly communicate the car’s dynamic nature.

The new RC F SPORT features the same grille mesh pattern that graces all Lexus F SPORT models, together with many other custom exterior and interior items that are exclusive to this special grade. These include powerfully styled 19-inch alloy wheels, inspired by those used by the LS and LC luxury flagship sedan and coupe.

DRIVING PLEASURE HEIGHTENED BY INTERIOR REFINEMENTS

A brushed treatment has been applied to the heater control and audio panels, generating a higher sense of quality, while the knee pads either side of the centre console have been made larger and raised higher, creating a greater sense of space in the front of the cabin. The driver’s palm rest has been reshaped and a stitching pattern has been added to the surface, showcasing the designers’ high attention to detail.

A new analogue clock, identical to the one in the LC, sits high on the instrument panel in another identifying feature of Lexus coupes.

New ornamentation options, including real aluminum Naguri and Brushed Metal will be available for the RC F SPORT. In all, RC customers will have five options to choose from.

Interior colours include Ochre, which is also featured in the LC, and Mustard , which comprises subtle yellow accents on a black background. Seven interior colour combinations will be available, including those reserved for the F SPORT.

 “SHARPER AND MORE GRACEFUL” DRIVING CONCEPT

Adopting the driving concept of “sharper and more graceful” that defines the LC, Lexus engineers have aimed at making the new RC thoroughly fun to drive by focusing their attention on the details, such as enhancing the car’s aerodynamics and fine-tuning the suspension system and powertrain. Endowed with a flatter and more stable ride quality and sharper handling characteristics derived from the LC, the new RC is more athletic and responsive than ever.

Enhanced aerodynamics, achieved with details such as a new fin shape in the side window mouldings and a duct in the rear bumper, give the car better handling stability.

New 19-inch wheels shod with higher-grip tyres support excellent steering response. New shock absorbers, which provide significant damping force from low suspension stroke speeds, and stiffer suspension bushings have also been introduced. The new RC underwent extensive real-world testing, with chassis engineers constantly fine-tuning performance, to improve ride and handling.

Throttle response from the turbocharged 2.0-litre engine has been improved to deliver a more direct feeling of acceleration and a more spirited driving experience.

The new Lexus RC will make its world debut on October 2 at the Paris Motor Show.

September 5th marked the first public appearance of the new Lexus RC coupe, almost a month ahead of its world premiere at Paris Motor Show 2018, at a pop-up event hosted in partnership with up-and-coming chef Andreas Møller of the restaurant Copenhague on the Champs-Elysées in Paris.

The new, reimagined RC blends comfort refinements with the latest Lexus signature design cues and sharper driving dynamics, drawing its inspiration from the LC flagship luxury coupe. The improvements featured in the new RC are a perfect embodiment of Lexus’ “YET” philosophy, giving the car a distinctive “sharp yet smooth” character, demonstrating how seemingly contrasting qualities can come together to brilliant effect. The sharpness can be found in RC’s more direct, responsive handling and bold design features, while the refined self-charging hybrid powertrain and interior finish enhancements express its smoothness.

Andreas Møller has created an out of the ordinary dish interpreting the #SharpYetSmooth character of the new RC. The Danish chef was the first to test drive the new luxury sports coupe through the heart of Paris, gaining inspiration for his unique gastronomic creation that captures the contrasting qualities of the car.

Andreas, whose skills were honoured with a first Michelin star earlier this year, envisioned a dish that translates the “YET” feeling - on the tastebuds. “I wanted to create something that is light and airy yet still has a lot of substance with strong flavours coming through – essentially Sharp Yet Smooth”, he explained.

“The dish includes mackerel, a fish that looks sharp, yet has the smoothest texture beneath the skin, which reflects the sharp lines of the RC and its luxurious interior. There is another parallel in my use of candy floss, the idea being that it hides then reveals all good things underneath, just as when you step into the new RC, it reveals more than you expect at first glance.”

Andreas sees strong parallels between his approach to cooking and Lexus’ “YET” philosophy: “I try to marry flavours that you would normally keep apart. I think it’s fun to challenge the guest’s perception of sweet and savoury with surprising flavour combinations,” he said.

This original collaboration and the pop-up reveal on the Champs-Elysées showcase Lexus’ ongoing commitment to create Amazing Experiences, both behind the wheel of its cars, and beyond.

#SHARPYETSMOOTH CREATION BY ANDREAS MOLLER

The raw mackerel is oak-smoked to give it a deeper flavour. It is complemented by kohlrabi that has been marinated with horseradish to bring out sharpness without being overpowering. The marinade also gives the kohlrabi a clear, glass-like appearance and the special way it is cut creates smooth waves that define the appearance of the dish.

The pickled mustard and ramson seeds give the dish an extra texture and create small explosions of flavour. Lemon caviar, also known as finger limes, add acidity to balance out the heavier flavours of the pickled ingredients. Using caviar as a topping adds both a luxury feel and a saltiness that balances with the taste of the smoked mackerel. Raw whitecurrants and fermented currants are added, giving both acidity and a hint of soft sweetness.

Green saltwort is a seashore plant that retains strong saltiness in its crisp stems, while nasturtium and borage bring freshness and an edge to the dish.

Lightly salted airy candy floss sprinkled with lemon dust is added as a topping and the final touch is a drizzle of whitecurrant juice, juice from salted lemons and seaweed oil, which melts the candy floss and brings together all the dish’s flavours, masterfully bringing the sharp and the smooth notes together

The result is a dish featuring a wealth of different ingredients, flavours and textures that would perhaps not be considered natural partner, yet come together to deliver something truly remarkable.

The rear combination lamps now house more pronounced L-shaped lenses that are a new signature design feature for Lexus coupes.

In all 11 different exterior colours will be available for the RC, including Flare Yellow and Sky Blue, shades which perfectly communicate the car’s dynamic nature.

The new RC F SPORT features the same grille mesh pattern that graces all Lexus F SPORT models, together with many other custom exterior and interior items that are exclusive to this special grade. These include powerfully styled 19-inch alloy wheels, inspired by those used by the LS and LC luxury flagship sedan and coupe.

DRIVING PLEASURE HEIGHTENED BY INTERIOR REFINEMENTS

A brushed treatment has been applied to the heater control and audio panels, generating a higher sense of quality, while the knee pads either side of the centre console have been made larger and raised higher, creating a greater sense of space in the front of the cabin. The driver’s palm rest has been reshaped and a stitching pattern has been added to the surface, showcasing the designers’ high attention to detail.

A new analogue clock, identical to the one in the LC, sits high on the instrument panel in another identifying feature of Lexus coupes.

New ornamentation options, including real aluminum Naguri and Brushed Metal will be available for the RC F SPORT. In all, RC customers will have five options to choose from.

Interior colours include Ochre, which is also featured in the LC, and Mustard , which comprises subtle yellow accents on a black background. Seven interior colour combinations will be available, including those reserved for the F SPORT.

 “SHARPER AND MORE GRACEFUL” DRIVING CONCEPT

Adopting the driving concept of “sharper and more graceful” that defines the LC, Lexus engineers have aimed at making the new RC thoroughly fun to drive by focusing their attention on the details, such as enhancing the car’s aerodynamics and fine-tuning the suspension system and powertrain. Endowed with a flatter and more stable ride quality and sharper handling characteristics derived from the LC, the new RC is more athletic and responsive than ever.

Enhanced aerodynamics, achieved with details such as a new fin shape in the side window mouldings and a duct in the rear bumper, give the car better handling stability.

New 19-inch wheels shod with higher-grip tyres support excellent steering response. New shock absorbers, which provide significant damping force from low suspension stroke speeds, and stiffer suspension bushings have also been introduced. The new RC underwent extensive real-world testing, with chassis engineers constantly fine-tuning performance, to improve ride and handling.

Throttle response from the turbocharged 2.0-litre engine has been improved to deliver a more direct feeling of acceleration and a more spirited driving experience.

The new Lexus RC will make its world debut on October 2 at the Paris Motor Show.

Starting with the 423 DIN hp, V8-powered, IS F, and taking in the legendary LFA supercar, the 477 DIN hp RC F coupe and the GS F saloon, Lexus F cars have always been at the heart of the performance and excitement of the Lexus brand.

The festivities will begin at the Goodwood Festival of Speed, where five-time Daytona winner and former Lexus LFA development driver Scott Pruett will be taking to the hill in the Lexus RC F GT3 racing car – recently a winner in both the American IMSA Weathertech SportsCar Championship and the Blancpain GT Series in Europe.

Scott will be at the wheel of the American 3GT Racing car, which sports a distinctive blue chrome livery.

The American racing legend will be joined by Briton Jack Hawksworth, who currently races the 3GT Racing RC F GT3 in IMSA. Jack will be driving a race-prepared RC F Cup sporting a one-off Lexus ‘F’ livery. Abbie Eaton, test driver on television’s The Grand Tour, will also be driving up the hill at the wheel of the iconic Lexus LFA.

The new RC F 10th Anniversary, which features an exclusive Mercury Grey matt paint finish last used on the LFA and striking Blue Carbon interior upholstery, will make its dynamic debut in the First Glance paddock.

If you think about it, Lexus was a disrupter at that time, demonstrating that we could build innovative vehicles, with great performance and incredible quality. Of course at the centre was and always will be our commitment to providing a personalized and exceptional customer experience.

Over the years we have leveraged our disrupter mindset and our DNA of product innovation by introducing industry-first technologies in many fields such as active safety, car manufacturing and on-board premium features.

Other innovations include bringing the first premium crossover to market with the RX.

And of course our industry leading self-charging hybrid has been nothing short of amazing. Since we introduced this new technology to the premium market back in 2005, we have sold more hybrids than all of our competitors combined.

Today we have the largest range of premium self-charging hybrids on the market with over 1.3 million sold globally, and more than 350 thousand in Europe.

Our disruptor mindset and Lexus DNA have extended to the design of our vehicles. The Lexus signature grille has become a hallmark in the industry and we collected many awards for innovation in design, such as with the recently launched LC.

Now let’s take a look at some of the vehicles we have with us today.

10 years ago we introduced the F marque … combining muscular design, authentic sports performance and cutting-edge technologies. Today we present here in Geneva the car that brings this milestone to life: the RC F 10th anniversary edition. This will be a limited run of only 350 units globally … and European customers can expect to take delivery by the end of the summer.

Now let’s look further into the future. At the recent Detroit Motor show we have revealed our vision of a new type of flagship crossover with the Lexus LF-1 Limitless Concept, and today it’s making its European Premiere here in Geneva.

This amazing vehicle signals our future design direction. It’s combining crossover capabilities with outstanding performance, innovative features and Lexus true quality.

The LF-1 Limitless Concept is like a co-pilot, anticipating the needs of its driver and passengers. For example, it has a virtual assistant with links to navigation, radar and cameras to provide advanced predictive capabilities.

As a further proof of our disruptor mind set and commitment to innovation, this vehicle is capable of hosting any powertrain: self-charging hybrid, plug-in hybrid, battery electric or even fuel cell.

Limitless is more than just the name of the concept vehicle; it’s also how we see our opportunities for the coming years. Already today, 98% of our sales in Western Europe are electrified, and we will continue playing a leading role in the electrification trend in the global automotive industry.

Now let’s turn to more immediate product news.

Our next launch is just around the corner: it’s the RX L, our first seven-seater to be offered in Western Europe. The RX L retains the stylish and elegant design of the RX, while offering even more space and versatility.

This has been achieved by optimizing vehicle packaging with only 110 mm additional length. Third-row passengers also benefit from great comfort and luxury, for example thanks to a 3-zone climate control system. On top, the RX L offers great luggage space flexibility behind the third row.

Ladies and Gentlemen, with close to 75 thousand Lexus sales in 2017 in Europe - the highest ever - we achieved our 4th consecutive year of sales growth. But our ambition is to get to 100 thousand vehicles in Europe by 2020.

One model will strongly contribute to this objective and to the growth of the Lexus brand globally. It’s covered here on my right, it’s one of our most exciting product launches ever.

The Lexus UX introduces a new genre crossover. It is built for modern adventurers who prefer an imaginative, refined lifestyle, and who are on a non-stop adventure to experience it. We call them Creative Urban Explorers.

The aim for the UX was not to conform to the established, solid crossover look, but to achieve a compact design that is both strong and stylish, breaking with the conventions of the segment to deliver something more distinctive and dynamic.

The vehicle’s interior was very important to me, because that is where driver and car connect. The UX cabin is very stylish, with high quality materials designed by the best Japanese craftsmen and an ‘inside-out’ philosophy inspired by a traditional style of Japanese architecture which blurs the boundary between the inside and outside of a house.

The foundation for the vehicle’s dynamic performance focuses on enabling nimble and instant response to driver inputs, while maintaining a sense of stability and safety.

In terms of powertrains, of course our self-charging hybrid technology will play a key role in the UX line-up, especially in Europe! The UX 250h will feature a new-generation 2 litre petrol engine combined with a compact electric motor, or even two in the all-wheel drive version. This powertrain will bring segment-leading fuel efficiency as well as a smooth and dynamic driving experience.

The UX will also be available as UX 200, with a brand new 2 litre petrol engine and transmission, delivering superior energy efficiency and direct acceleration feeling.

So, Ladies and Gentlemen, as you can see, with this UX, the other models here on display and our ongoing commitment to innovative powertrains, Lexus will continue to disrupt the market.

To mark the occasion, it has prepared a new RC F Special Edition, styled and equipped to capture the sporting spirit of the F marque.

Exclusive new RC F Special Edition

The RC F Special Edition makes its European debut at the Geneva Motor Show, a rare and exclusive version of the performance coupe.

The car’s powerful lines and sculpted surfaces have been given extra impact with a matt paint finish in Nebula grey. The matt theme is also picked up in exterior elements such as the door handles, mirror housings, side skirts and shark fin antenna. This strikes a strong contrast with the highly polished black finish of the 19-inch multi-spoke alloy wheels.

Large brake callipers are visible through the wheel spokes, painted blue and bearing the evocative F logo. The same blue shade is used to edge the discreet F badging on the car’s front wings. The Special Edition further benefits from front performance dampers.

The interior displays and even bolder application of the colour, with an exclusive Blue Carbon theme. The highly supportive front sports seats are finished in vivid blue semi-aniline leather with white accents and the F symbol embossed in the integrated head restraints. They are also fitted with integrated heating and ventilation.

The same blue leather can be found on the gear shift knob, the steering wheel and the instrument panel hood and the seat belts are also coloured to match. The surrounds for the window controls on the door armrests have a striking carbon weave finish in blue, black and silver.

The rear seats are wrapped in black leather and a black headlining, embossed with the F symbol, adds to the focused, sporting ambience. Each model is fitted with a discreet metal plaque recording the car’s Special Edition status.

Other features include the RC F Carbon Pack, equipping the car with a carbon fibre hood, roof and active rear spoiler, together with a Torque Vectoring Differential for superior handling through corners. The safety provisions are equally impressive, including Lexus Safety Sense +, Rear Cross Traffic Alert and a Blind Spot Monitor.

Lexus F – the first 10 years

The exclusive F designation was first introduced on the IS F in 2008. The F reputation was further enhanced with the limited edition LFA supercar, of which just 500 were manufactured between 2010 and 2012.

The F designation was subsequently applied to the performance-focused RC F coupe and GS F sedan, both models reflecting the technological skills gained during the development and production of the LFA — particularly the manufacturing know-how for carbon fibre reinforced plastic parts — as well as the car design philosophy for realizing exhilarating and stimulating driving performance.

By using the letter F to signify its most potent models, Lexus pays tribute to the Fuji Speedway and the Higashi Fuji Technical Centre at the foot of Mount Fuji in Japan, which have been the cradle of the cars’ development.

Lexus original intentions for the F line were to produce cars with muscular, athletic designs and authentic sports performance, and that are fun and rewarding to drive. At the same time, they would maintain the established Lexus values of sophisticated technologies, advanced safety, cutting-edge engineering and unmatched refinement and efficiency.

The essential quality of the cars is expressed by the F Engineer, who said: “There’s a perception that many performance cars are hard to drive. In fact, they’re easy in the right hands, because they’ve been purpose-built for the skill level of their drivers. It’s the same with the F cars which I have built to be enjoyed by all enthusiasts, no matter what their level of expertise. Electronics can be modified instantly on board to provide levels of performance and protection appropriate to each driver’s abilities. But even in their basic settings, they are a blast.”

Lexus F models are developed with extensive testing on some of the world’s most famous and demanding race tracks, including the Fuji Speedway and the Nürburgring, to achieve the best possible dynamic performance, handling, responsiveness, power and even the quality of the engine note. The result is cars that deliver direct response, communicating a strong feeling of the driver being in control, no matter what the speed, the driving conditions, or the level of ability of the person at the wheel.

Lexus IS F – the original Lexus F model

The IS F was the first Lexus F model, launched in 2008 with a compact, naturally aspirated 5.0-litre V8 engine that was developed specifically for the car. This unit produced a maximum 423 DIN hp and was capable of acceleration from rest to 100km/h in 4.8 seconds. It was matched to an eight-speed Sport Direct Shift transmission which, in its day, delivered the world’s fastest shift speed – just 0.1 seconds.

Power and speed were only part of the IS F’s special character. Thanks to a specially adapted version of Lexus’ Vehicle Dynamics Integrated Management (VDIM), drivers were able to safely explore the limits of the car’s performance, with VDIM providing co-ordinated control of the car’s braking, traction and stability functions, steering assistance and gearshifts. Select Sport mode in the transmission and VDIM would give the freedom for really spirited driving, only intervening at the point of maximum drift. For the truly adventurous, the IS F also allowed the system to be fully switched off to give the kind of handling and braking performance enjoyed by race and rally drivers.

RC F – the performance coupe

In 2014 Lexus moved to the next chapter in its F programme with the IS F making way for the more powerful RC F, based on the RC coupe. The V8 powertrain underwent extensive changes that delivered an initial increase in output to 477 DIN hp (subsequently adjusted to 463 DIN hp to comply with emissions standards). The SPDS transmission offered no fewer than six driver-selectable modes, including a G-sensor AI-Shift control for high-performance sports driving.

Responsiveness was further sharpened and more linear acceleration delivered, all the way to a new 7,000rpm red line, made possible by using strong and lighter components, including forged connecting rods and titanium valves. At the same time, the car’s stopping power was significantly improved with larger and thicker slotted brake discs.

The RC F also came equipped with a Torque Vectoring Differential – a first for a front engine/rear-wheel drive car – which allowed for left and right drive torque to be instantaneously adjusted, giving smoother, faster and more precise cornering, free from understeer. The VDIM was also upgraded with an extended Sport mode and an “Expert” setting, with the vehicle stability control switched off. The system was also developed to enable co-ordination of its functions with the torque vectoring differential.

GS F – the performance sedan

The performance blueprint executed for the RC F was applied to GS sedan in 2015, creating the GS F. Using the same powertrain, its handling was further developed in track testing on the famously demanding Nürburgring Nordschleife.

Although it has been honed on the racetrack, the five-seater GS F is faithful to the ethos of the F in being a car that is equally amenable to drive whether you are taking on a twisting mountain road, or making a routine, everyday journey.

The all-new car, now homologated by the sport’s governing body, the FIA, will participate in racing championships in USA and Japan, as well as a number of selected European races.

In the USA, Lexus has supplied two Lexus RC F GT3 to the 3GT Racing team, to compete in the GTD class of the IMSA WeatherTech SportsCar Championship Series.

In Japan, two cars are contesting the GT300 class of the Super GT Series with the LM corsa team.

In Europe, Farnbacher Racing and Emil Frey Racing, the two teams which competed in VLN Endurance series with RC F GT3 prototype vehicles last year, will continue their development work this season, aiming to compete at higher levels in GT3 racing in Europe in the future. On this basis, they will compete in European races in 2017, including selected events in the International GT Open series.

Last year, Lexus became the first Asian carmaker to win a VLN Endurance Championship race at the Nürburgring Nordschleife, with a RC F GT3 prototype claiming overall victory at the VLN9 race on 8 October.

Lexus also achieved outstanding results last year with the RC F GT500, another racing car derived from the RC F. The 2016 RC F GT500 dominated the Super GT series in Japan last year, with Team SARD and drivers Heikki Kovalainen and Kohei Hirate respectively claiming the team and drivers’ championship titles in the GT500 category.

The LEXUS RC F GT3 was developed based on the RC F, the automaker’s high-performance coupe, specifically to compete in the GT3 category races, a worldwide popular customer racing category.

Following the car’s debut at the 24 Hours of Daytona, one of the world’s three great endurance races, from Thursday, January 26, to Sunday, January 29, 2017 (U.S. time), Lexus will enter two vehicles each in races held in Japan and the U.S. during the 2017 season. In the U.S., the vehicle will compete in the GTD category of the IMSA WeatherTech SportsCar Championship series under 3GT Racing, and in Japan, it will compete in the GT300 class of the SUPER GT series under LMcorsa.

LEXUS GAZOO Racing will put more focus on participatory motorsports with the production model-based LEXUS RC F GT3 racecar, strengthen the performance image of the Lexus brand and offer surprise and excitement to an even larger audience worldwide.

Lexus has advanced the handling stability and ride comfort of its premium GS F sports sedan and RC F sports coupe by incorporating the latest driver-selectable Adaptive Variable Suspension (AVS).

The AVS system electronically monitors and controls the damping force at all four wheels simultaneously, based on road-surface conditions and driver preferences.

Using a range of sensors - including G force, yaw-rate and speed sensors - Lexus AVS is designed to improve ride comfort and handling stability, particularly on rough roads, while also providing greater stability when cornering.

The latest AVS iteration offers 30 levels of damping force, up from 9 previously, switching automatically as required to ensure precise suspension control on all road surfaces.

When cornering, it applies increased damping force in response to steering input, yaw rate and vehicle attitude, ensuring exceptional handling and reduced body roll through the turn while also providing a smooth, comfortable ride.

On rough surfaces, it reduces damper force to help absorb vibrations to maintain a high level of comfort.

The full AVS package has seven damping-force control strategies, including anti-dive and anti-squat.

The AVS works with the vehicle's comprehensive safety systems for ideal composure, helping suppress body pitching under heavy braking or hard acceleration.

Lexus has complemented the increased suspension control AVS offers by linking it with both the Vehicle Dynamics Integrated Management (VDIM) safety technology and Drive Mode Select control.

In ECO, NORMAL, and SPORT S modes, the Drive Mode Select system prioritises ride comfort while contributing to greater handling stability, based on driving operations and the road surface conditions.

In SPORT S+ mode, the focus of the damping-force control is handling stability. In addition, the SPORT S+ mode automatically switches the powertrain, electric power-assisted steering and VDIM to Sport mode.

The meter graphics display in both F Line vehicles has been updated to show the selection of Sports AVS.

Lexus GS F and RC F share a premium driveline, with a 5.0-litre normally aspirated V8 delivering 351kW/477 DIN hp of power through an eight-speed Sports Direct Shift transmission.

In addition to the GS F and RC F suspension upgrade, Lexus has introduced a new grey exterior colour for GS F and a new black paint for RC F.

RC F has a new alloy wheel with seven pairs of spokes.

Brussels, Belgium - Lexus Europe sold 36,405 vehicles in the first six months of 2016, an increase of 16% compared to the first half of 2015, in a premium market which increased at a slower pace (+12%).

Alain Uyttenhoven, Head of Lexus Europe, commented: “Over the last couple of years, Lexus has completely renewed its line-up, and expanded its range with new models such as the NX and the RC. We also remain by far the leading manufacturer of luxury hybrid vehicles, globally and in Europe. This provides a solid foundation for continued sales growth in the future.”

Following enthusiast market response for its all-new, fourth generation model, sales of RX more than doubled in the first half of 2016 (+123%) to reach 8,815 units. Overall, NX was the best seller in the Lexus range, with 12,689 units sold, keeping the pace with 2015 when the new model was in full launch.

The RC coupe, launched at the start of 2016, also gained a strong foothold with already 972 units sold in the first half of the year.

Sales in Eastern markets were boosted by the new LX (3,067 units, +143% vs. H1 2015) and the revised ES (986 units, +19%).

Hybrid vehicles represent 98% of Lexus sales in Western Europe. Including Eastern markets, about two-thirds of total Lexus Europe sales are hybrids, reaching 23,021 units (+12%). The most popular hybrid models are NX 300h (8,788 units), RX 450h (4,715 units), CT 200h (4,452 units), and IS 300h (3,182 units).

There was substantial sales growth in all parts of the region managed by Lexus Europe, with increases in excess of 20% in France, Germany, Italy, Spain, Poland, Central Europe (Hungary, Czech Republic and Slovakia), Balkans, Belgium, Ireland and Iceland.

In Russia, Lexus sales increased by 17% in a premium market down by 6%. With 11,089 units sold in the first half of 2016, Lexus has now a premium market share of 14.4% in Russia (+2.8ppt).

Ukraine is currently the fastest growing market for Lexus Europe (+256%; market share increasing by 3.2ppt to reach 8.9%).

Brussels, Belgium - Sales in Europe increased 20 percent to approximately 64,000 vehicles, the most for a major market in percentage terms; including a 31 percent gain in Western Europe. Sales in China increased to approximately 88,500 vehicles, a 14 percent increase; and North America sales increased to approximately 368,000 vehicles, a 12 percent gain. Accentuating its luxury hybrid leadership, with almost 1 million hybrid Lexus vehicles sold to date, hybrid sales globally were approximately 149,000 vehicles and accounted for 23 percent of sales.

Initiatives

The first INTERSECT BY LEXUS luxury brand experience space outside Japan opened in Dubai, UAE. This new two story space is located in the heart of the Dubai International Financial Center (DIFC).

Lexus named the first automaker winner ofthe Milano Design Award for Best Entertainingfor its "Lexus – A Journey of the Senses" exhibit at Milan Design Week, the world's largest design exhibition. Additionally, the first-ever Lexus Design Award Grand Prix winner was announced.

The third Lexus Short Films Series winners announced at the Napa Valley Film Festival. In 2013, Lexus Short Films was launched with the goal of supporting and nurturing a new generation of emerging filmmakers.

Lexus partnered with leading super conductive technology experts to create one of the most advanced Hoverboards ever. The Lexus Hoverboard is part of the global ‘Amazing in Motion’ campaign.

Lexus Safety System +, a portfolio of active safety technologies designed to help prevent or mitigate collisions across a wide range of vehicle speeds package began rolling out in Europe, Japan and North America.

Honors

Lexus named the Luxury Brand with the Best Resale Value in Kelley Blue Book’s 2016 Best Resale Value Awards. This is the fifth year in a row Lexus has been named the luxury brand with the best projected retained value through the initial five-year ownership. Six 2016 Lexus models were honored with Best Resale Value for their perspective vehicle categories: RC 200t/RC 300/RC 350, ES 300h, GS 200t/GS 350, RX 450h, GX 460, and LX 570.

The NX 200t was awarded ‘Best Compact Premium SUV’ at the 2015 Middle East Car of the Year Awards (MECOTY).

CT was the overall winner in the Car Environmental List, an annual evaluation by the Traffic Association Germany (VCD).

Lexus topped the largest car satisfaction surveys, Autoindex, in Sweden and Norway, for the fourth time.

Lexus dominated the Auto Express Driver Power 2015 survey, receiving six awards including those for best manufacturer and – for the IS sedan – best car. The IS also took the top spot in the best compact executive car category and was the highest­ rated model for ease of driving. The NX was named best car for build quality within its first six months on the road in the UK.

The independent German institute for environmental research ‘Ökotrend’ (Ecological Trend) and the car magazine ‘Auto Test’ recognized the GS 300h as the most ecological car in the premium middle class. The evaluation of the vehicle’s environmental performance was conducted based on its fuel consumption and emissions for its entire life cycle, including production, logistics and recycling.

RX achieved the best-ever pedestrian protection score out of all large SUVs ever tested by Euro NCAP and achieves a 5 –Star rating.

CT , ES, RC, and NX, earned the Insurance Institute for Highway Safety (IIHS) TOP SAFETY PICK+, IIHS’s highest recognition for crashworthiness and front crash prevention.

The RC 300h’s¹ Lexus Hybrid Drive system combines a 2.5 litre, 4-cylinder Atkinson Cycle petrol engine with a powerful electric motor to deliver maximum system power of 223 PS/164 kW. The RC 300h accelerates from 0-100 km/h in 8.6 seconds and has a maximum speed of 190 km/h, yet returns average fuel consumption figures as low as 4.7 l/100 km and generates remarkably low, highly tax-efficient CO₂ emissions of as little as 108 g/km. 

The RC 300h benefits from enhanced EPS and suspension system, and builds on the platform’s ride comfort and handling agility with the uniquely quiet, refined and sophisticated driving experience offered by its full hybrid powertrain.

The hybrid system’s electronic, continuously variable transmission features a six step, sequential Shiftmatic override gear change, delivering all the driving performance expected of a sporting coupe. And a full hybrid-unique, EV mode allows for ultra-quiet running on electric motor power alone, resulting in zero fuel consumption and CO₂, NOx and PM emissions.

The RC 300h F SPORT variant features specifically tuned front and rear suspension systems, while its agility and handling performance is further improved through the adoption of Adaptive Variable Suspension (AVS).

RC 200t

The RC 200t² features the 2.0 litre, twin-scroll turbo unit introduced by Lexus on several models in 2015. Featuring a range of advanced, ESTEC (Economy with Superior Thermal Efficiency Combustion) engine technologies with a fast throttle response and high torque at low engine revs, the 4-cylinder engine develops 245 PS/180 kW and maximum torque of 350 Nm. This equips the RC 200t with a 0-100 km/h acceleration time of 7.5 seconds and a top speed of 230 km/h.

The 2.0 turbo unit drives the rear wheels via an 8-Speed SPDS (Sport Direct Shift) transmission originally developed for the high-performance RC F. Equipped with steering wheel-mounted paddle shifts for manual override, the transmission incorporates G AI-SHIFT Control, which varies gear shifting in accordance with the G-forces generated.

Both the suspension and Electric Power Steering (EPS) systems ensure the RC 200t delivers superior driving dynamics, with the agility, precise steering response and high levels of grip expected of a sporting, two-door coupe.

RC 200t F SPORT variant offers significantly enhanced handling performance through the adoption of a Torsen Limited Slip Differential and Adaptive Variable Suspension (AVS).

DESIGN AND PACKAGING

The RC’s elegant yet powerful, two-door exterior design hints at refined driving performance and agility. The sporting, premium quality interior features a snug, driver-focused cockpit offering ergonomically ideal driver interaction with Lexus’ advanced HMI (Human Machine Interface) systems. The cockpit is structured around an upper display zone and a lower operation zone.

On-board technology features a choice of Lexus Display Audio (LDA) or Electro Multi Vision Navigation (EMVN) multimedia systems with coordinated control via 4.2-inch Multi-information Display and 7-inch centre console screens, the second generation Lexus Remote Touch Interface (RTI) with touch tracer control, and a choice of sound systems including a 17-speaker Mark Levinson® Premium Surround System.

Both the RC 300h F SPORT and the RC 200t F SPORT variants feature grade-specific exterior and interior styling, including a unique spindle grille and ‘F’ mesh pattern, and exclusive alloy wheels, body colours, trim and ornamentation.

SAFETY

The RC is designed to offer the very highest levels of active, passive and preventive safety. It is equipped, as standard, with the Lexus’ unique Vehicle Dynamics Integrated Management (VDIM) system and a sophisticated, Pre-Crash Safety (PCS) system incorporating Adaptive Cruise Control.

Further active safety technology includes a Blind Spot Monitor (BSM), Rear Cross Traffic Alert (RCTA) and Lane Departure Alert (LDA), an Auto Location Tyre Pressure Warning System (AL-TPWS) and an Automatic High Beam (AHB) headlamp system.

Elegant Two-door Coupe Exterior Design

With an 4695 mm overall length, 1840 mm overall width, 1395 mm height and a 2730 mm wheelbase, the low profile and wide stance of the stunning, two-door RC coupes’ exterior design features a compact cabin contrasted by aggressively flared wings and body contours etched with deeply sweeping lines.

Creating these powerful character lines required advanced press technologies that surpass conventional production line standards, and have, hitherto, been reserved for concept vehicles alone. The resultant, powerfully three-dimensional forms constantly change in appearance as you move around the car, creating a striking presence when viewed from any angle.

Befitting the coupe’s styling flair, the trademark spindle grille is wider than on Lexus sedan models and has a longitudinal rather than lateral mesh pattern, emphasising the RC’s wide, purposeful stance and low centre of gravity. Perfectly integrating design and function, the grille incorporates both fog lamps and brake cooling air intakes.

The coupe’s compact, triangular headlamp design evokes the pedigree of Lexus sports model design. Each element of the simultaneously-illuminating, three-light cluster design contains both high and low beam lamps. The Lexus hallmark L-shaped low beam lamp design combines with independently located LED Daytime Running Lights (DRL) to give the RC an aggressive, sporting and entirely unique visual signature.

Between prominent, muscular wheel arches, the rear design echoes the front spindle styling. The highly original twin-exhaust profile and aero stabilising fin bumper extremity treatment further hint at the exceptional driving performance and agility offered by the RC 200t and 300h coupes.

The sharp, narrow design of the rear combination lamps also adopts an evolution of the Lexus L-shaped motif. Previous designs have presented this motif as a graphic element within the lamp unit. By contrast, the RC unit raises the tail and stop lamps to form a strongly three-dimensional L-shape.

In addition, the seamless lighting method of previous models has been replaced by a glittering, gem-like illumination created by an inner lens with multi-layered surface serrations, awarding RC models an equally unique rear light signature.

In conjunction with the narrowest possible panel gaps, the coupe’s low, sleek proportions have been further enhanced by the use of two advanced construction technologies: a rear wheel arch hemming treatment and laser brazing.

The former reduces both the thickness of the panel at the lip of the wheel arch and the vertical gap between the tyre and the arch.

RC models may be fitted with a choice of 9-spoke 17-inch³, 5-spoke 18-inch or 10-spoke 19-inch aluminium alloy wheels.

They will be available in a choice of 7 body colours inlcuding a Sonic White, which uses a SONIC system, two-stage painting process to create a solid, crystalline, three-dimensional depth, and a Radiant Red, which features an innovative, multi-layered painting process including a silver base coat to give brighter highlights and darker shading for a deeper, richer finish.

Unique Interior Design with Driver-focused Cockpit

Reflecting Lexus’ commitment to fast, intuitive and ergonomically ideal driver interaction with its advanced HMI (Human Machine Interface) on-board technologies, the snug, highly-focused driver’s cockpit is divided into an upper display zone and a lower operation zone.

The display zone houses the instrument panel and a 7-inch full-colour display screen. The sporting driver’s instrument binnacle features a high-legibility, large-diameter speedometer and tachometer set either side of a central, 4.2-inch Multi-information Display screen with steering wheel-mounted switchgear control.

Driver’s meter backlighting colour changes in accordance with the Drive Mode Select system; blue Illumination indicating the selection of ECO mode, and red, Sport mode.

The layered centre console of the lower, operation zone integrates either the Lexus Display Audio (LDA) system with 8-directional joystick control, or the Electro Multi Vision Navigation (EMVN) system controlled by the second generation of Lexus’ Remote Touch Interface (RTI).

A circular hairline finish has been applied to the controls of both the LDA and EMVN control panels to recreate the finish of high-end audio systems, whilst the panel design of the EMVN system equipped with the Mark Levinson Premium Surround System adopts machined aluminium controls, mirroring the design of Mark Levinson home audio systems.

The centre console also incorporates electrostatic switches to control the air conditioning temperature with the touch of a finger.

An exclusive, highly-supportive sports front seat design uses an ‘integrated foaming’ construction method. This allows for the moulding of large concave surfaces whilst ensuring that there are no gaps between the seat upholstery and its foam padding, thus ensuring a combination of excellent comfort and outstanding lateral holding performance.

A one-touch walk-in function gives easy access to the 60:40 split folding rear seats. The front seat automatically slides forwards when the seat back is folded forwards by means of the shoulder-mounted lever. The seat automatically returns to its original position when the seatback is raised again.

Contrast stitching to the seats, centre console trim and generous knee pads adds a high quality accent to the interior design, whilst further enhancing the holding performance of the smooth, synthetic or semi-aniline leather seat upholstery.

Highlighting the sporting elegance of a coupe, the premium quality interior of the RC makes maximum use of contrasting colours, materials and lighting. The latter features unique, upward- rather than downward-reflecting ambient illumination, including door trim lighting which automatically adjusts in brightness to suit driving conditions.

High-contrast interior colours and sculpted, polished metal accentuate the layered design of the centre console and door panels. Genuine Shimamoku wood highlights -the result of a painstaking, layered wood production technique refined by Lexus- are amongst the ornamentation used to emphasise the surrounding trim.

A choice of four colour schemes -Black, Topaz Brown, and newly developed Clove and Moon Stone- reinforce the sporting elegance of the RC interior design.

Exclusive F SPORT Exterior and Interior Treatment

The F SPORT variants of RC feature an exclusive spindle grille that is wider and lower than that of any other Lexus, and incorporates a new ‘F’ mesh pattern.

They both combine a unique 19” alloy wheel design with model-specific badging and a choice of nine body colours, including F SPORT-exclusive Lava Orange, Heat Blue and F White paintwork. In addition, the RC 200t F SPORT may be equipped with exclusive Orange front and rear brake callipers.

On-board, all F SPORT versions inherit a descendant of the innovative driver’s meter with moving centre ring from the LFA. The F SPORT-exclusive interior design is completed by free stitching to the front seats, a perforated leather-clad steering wheel and shift lever, aluminium pedals and scuff plates, the three-dimensional surface treatment of Wedge Metal ornamentation, and a Dark Rose colour scheme.

ENGINES AND TRANSMISSIONS

RC 300h

• 223 PS/164 kW full hybrid powertrain: average fuel consumption 4.7 l/100 km, CO₂ emissions as low as 108 g/km.

• 2.5 litre, 4-cylinder Atkinson cycle petrol engine with a thermal efficiency rating of 38.5%.

As with every Lexus hybrid vehicle, the RC 300h is a full hybrid capable of operating in petrol or electric modes alone, as well as a combination of both. Its Lexus Hybrid Drive system combines a Euro 6-compliant, 2494 cc, dual-injection, 4-cylinder Atkinson Cycle petrol engine generating 181PS /131kW at 6,000 rpm and peak torque of 221 Nm between 4,200 and 4,800 rpm with a 143 PS/105 kW electric motor.

Delivering maximum system power of 223 PS/164 kW, the engine and the electric motor drive the rear wheels both independently and in tandem, as appropriate.

In addition to the petrol engine and electric motor, the new RC 300h’s hybrid drive system further comprises a generator, a high-performance nickel-metal hydride battery, a power split device which, via planetary reduction gears, combines and re-allocates power from the engine, electric motor and generator according to operational requirements, and a compact power control unit to govern the high speed interaction of the system components. The RC 300h accelerates from 0-100 km/h in 8.6 seconds and has a maximum speed of 190 km/h, yet returns average fuel consumption figures as low as 4.7 l/100 km and generates remarkably low, highly tax-efficient CO₂ emissions of as little as 108 g/km.

The Atkinson cycle petrol engine is equipped with numerous advanced technologies designed to optimise its integration within the full hybrid powertrain, enhancing performance whilst minimising fuel consumption and emissions. Atkinson cycle timing features an expansion stroke that is longer than the compression stroke, resulting in a more efficient conversion of combustion energy. The adoption of the Atkinson cycle, a higher compression ratio and other advanced technologies contribute to the enhanced thermal efficiency of the engine, which achieves the rating of 38.5%.

The new generation D-4S fuel injection system features a higher, 20 MPa injection pressure and increased fuel flow volume. This helps to produce a more homogenous air-fuel mixture, contributing to both high power output and fuel efficiency.

Fuel efficiency is also enhanced through in-cylinder direct injectors with a side slit and an optimised injection hole shape, a revised intake port shape, and optimised airflow. The adoption of roller arm-type valve gear and roller-type D-4 pump gear further improves fuel economy.

The friction of sliding parts within the cams has been greatly reduced. And the adoption of a low-friction timing chain with enhanced wear-stretch performance and a stretch belt to lower tension further reduce friction to enhance fuel economy.

Dual VVT-i (Variable Valve Timing-intelligent) to both intake and exhaust camshafts also significantly ameliorates engine performance. Dual VVT-i allows a greater intake/exhaust valve overlap, benefiting both low-end and top-end torque as well as contributing to a reduction in exhaust emissions and better cold-start performance.

A high-efficiency Exhaust Gas Recirculation (EGR) system incorporates a water-cooled EGR cooler, a step motor EGR valve with significantly enhanced responsiveness compared to conventional technology and optimal EGR gas flow. In combination, these technologies help realise excellent fuel economy.

Finally, several measures ensure that engine quietness and smoothness have been maximised to compliment the inherently quiet operating characteristics of the Lexus Hybrid Drive system.

The location of the port injectors has been optimised, along with port injection during idling and low load driving and the crankshaft shape. Noise and vibration have been further reduced through the enhanced rigidity of the cylinder block and intake manifold, the optimised efficiency of the balance shaft and the adoption of resin gears within the hybrid transaxle.

The full hybrid drive system’s seamless electric continuously variable transmission (E-CVT) is controlled by Shift-by-Wire technology. Fully described in the Driving Dynamics chapter, it features a six step sequential Shiftmatic override gear change operated via steering wheel-mounted paddle shifters.

RC 200t - 2.0 Litre Turbo

Weighing just 160 kg, the RC 200t’s remarkably light and compact 1998 cc, 4-cylinder, turbocharged petrol engine features a unique combination of advanced, ESTEC (Economy with Superior Thermal Efficiency Combustion) engine technologies for increased thermal efficiency through combustion enhancement.

They include a D-4ST (Direct injection 4 stroke petrol engine Superior version with Turbo) fuel injection system, a twin-scroll turbocharger, a water cooled cylinder head with integrated exhaust manifold, and VVT-iW (Variable Valve Timing-intelligent Wide).

Combining a fast throttle response and high torque at low engine revs with remarkably frugal fuel consumption, the engine develops 245 PS/180 kW and maximum torque of 350 Nm. This equips the RC 200t with a 0-100 km/h acceleration time of 7.5 seconds and a top speed of 230 km/h and results in a fuel consumption of 7.2l/100km and CO₂ emissions of 166g/km.

D-4ST combines high pressure direct cylinder injection with low pressure intake port injection. This achieves optimum, uniform combustion even under high loads and cold temperatures.

This advanced fuel injection system works in combination with turbocharging to create a high level of compatibility between the ‘high tumble ratio’ achieved by optimising the shape of both the cylinder head intake ports and the piston tops, and turbo ‘boost control’.

The water cooled cylinder head features an integral, four-into-two exhaust manifold. This system pairs cylinders according to their expansion or compression stroke. Acting in conjunction with the highly-efficient, twin-scroll turbocharger, this innovative manifold structure prevents interference between the exhaust gasses from each cylinder, generating high torque across the widest possible rev band.

The adoption of an air-to-liquid intercooler mounted directly to the engine significantly reduces the intake volume downstream of the turbocharger, minimising turbo lag for a rapid throttle response.

The turbocharger itself is equipped with an active waste gate valve. The opening of the valve in the low engine load driving range reduces exhaust manifold pressure and, hence, pumping losses, to enhance combustion efficiency.

The engine further benefits from variable valve timing technology which adopts VVT-i on the exhaust valves and VVT-iW on the intake valves. This combines wide open throttle performance with optimised torque delivery throughout the rev range, whilst allowing the engine to start in the Otto cycle and yet run in the more fuel-efficient Atkinson cycle. During acceleration the Otto-cycle kicks in again.

8-Speed SPDS Transmission

The 2.0 turbo unit drives the rear wheels via an 8-Speed SPDS (Sport Direct Shift) transmission originally developed for the high-performance RC F.

Equipped with steering wheel-mounted paddle shifts for manual override, the exceptionally smooth, quiet transmission features Uphill Downshift Control, Downshift Lock-up Control, Deceleration Flex Lock-up Control, Power Saving Control, Stop & Start Control and G AI-SHIFT Control, which varies gear shifting in accordance with the G-forces generated.

Activated with the RC 200t’s Drive Mode Select system in Sport mode, G AI-SHIFT Control automatically downshifts during hard braking before a corner, holds a lower gear through the corner, then selects the most suitable gear on corner exit to give the driver greater throttle response.

In M mode, the transmission will not only hold selected gears, but also offers complete lock-up for quick-response shifting from 2nd through to 8th gear.

DRIVING DYNAMICS

The driving dynamics of the new RC perfectly reflect Lexus’ objective to evolve the ride and handling of its vehicles, offering its customers a more sporting and engaging driving experience.

High Rigidity Bodyshell

The foundation of the RC’s agility, precise steering response and high levels of mechanical grip is its high rigidity bodyshell. This features large cross-section rocker panels almost twice the size of those in the Lexus IS, cowl side bracing, the optimisation of underbody brace reinforcement, and even the use of high rigidity front and rear screen glass adhesive.

Numerous specialised Lexus manufacturing techniques further enhance rigidity. They include body adhesives, multi-spot welding, and laser-screw welding around the door openings, quarter glass and upper back panel.

These measures combine to maximise the torsional rigidity of the bodyshell, contributing to enhanced steering response and body control during cornering.

Aerodynamics

Designed to enhance stability during high speed driving, the RC incorporates tried and tested race car aerodynamics to both upper and underbody surfaces.

Air ducts in the front bumper corners control the speed of airflow along the body sides, reducing turbulence. An aero stabilising guide located behind the spindle grille suppresses vortex formation within the airflow entering the grille, enhancing radiator cooling efficiency.

Front and rear wheel arch spats improve aerodynamics by reducing the airflow hitting the tyre, and a grooved front fender liner helps direct airflow along the tyre. A bead integral to the rear fender liner expels air generated by tyre rotation from the wheel arch, enhancing aerodynamics.

Aero stabilising fins are located at the front tip of the door frame moulding and on the rear combination lamps, smoothing airflow along the sides of the vehicle to promote straight line stability and suppress wobble during cornering. To the rear, the shape of the trunk lip, rear bumper corners and the bottom edge of the lower garnish plate have all been optimised to funnel the airflow to the back of the vehicle and cleanly away.

Underbody aerodynamics are no less comprehensive. They feature large undercovers to the engine, main floor and rear floor, and the fitting of aero stabilising fins to each undercover to further suppress airflow turbulence. In addition, the underfloor angle rises to the rear of the car, creating a Venturi effect to both increase downforce and smooth the flow of air away from the rear of the vehicle.

Low Noise and Vibration Measures

Particularly pertinent to the inherently smooth, quiet operation of the RC 300h’s Lexus Hybrid Drive powertrain, the RC benefits from a comprehensive package of Noise and Vibration (NV) minimising measures, offering all occupants the quietest, most comfortable cabin environment possible.

In conjunction with careful resonance tuning of the dash panel and floor pan, underbody vibration countermeasures include the optimised thickness of the dash and centre floor panels, and the shape and layout of centre floor beading.

The dash features a sandwich sheet steel constructing incorporating a cross member and centre brace. The dash inner silencer is composed of a thick, two-layer structure which uses materials of different density to maximise the reduction of engine noise.

Sound absorbing and insulating materials have been comprehensively applied throughout the bodyshell, doors, dashboard and transmission tunnel, with a particular focus on the suppression of engine and air-conditioner noise within the dashboard. The widespread use of coated damping material efficiently reduces floor panel vibration whilst further enhancing cabin quietness. Additional NV- and wind noise-suppressing measures include the optimisation of the front pillar cross-section, the use of foam and vibration damping materials in the door and quarter window opening and front header, and fender and hood side sealing to reduce the penetration of engine noise to the cabin.

Finally, further minimising wind noise, the level difference between the windscreen glass and its surrounding structure has been reduced, and the position of both the door mirror and the windscreen wiper are optimised.

Engaging Driving Dynamics

The RC’s front double wishbone and rear multi-link suspension systems have been exclusively tuned to combine well-balanced, agile handling with superior straight line ride comfort.

The front suspension benefits from specific tuning of the upper support, coil spring wheel rate, stabiliser bar and bushing, and lower arm number 2 bushing. The shock absorber combines low friction hydraulic fluid with a resin-free piston to reduce friction.

The rear suspension benefits from similar fine-tuning to the shock absorber, coil spring, stabiliser and upper number 1 bushing.

In combination, these measures are designed to reduce understeer, ensure accurate yaw response during steering, effect a smooth transition to cornering attitude, and help achieve an integrated feel between steering input and vehicle behaviour, marrying a fine ride quality with agile, engaging handling characteristics.

Particular attention has been paid to the feel, feedback and accuracy of the RC’s Electric Power Steering (EPS), which is designed to clearly transmit the interaction between tyres and road surface to the driver. Highly rigid column mounting and a damperless intermediate shaft combine to offer a smooth, accurate and instantaneous vehicle response to even the smallest steering inputs.

The RC is equipped with a Drive Mode Select system, offering drivers a choice of SNOW, ECO, NORMAL and SPORT (SPORT S and SPORT S+ with F SPORT) modes. When SPORT mode is selected, the engine output, throttle opening and EPS steering assistance are adjusted to improve throttle response and add steering weight for a more powerful, dynamic driving experience.

The RC 200t also benefits from an Eco Driving Indicator to help drivers use the accelerator in the most fuel efficient manner. When driving in an eco-friendly manner, the Eco Driving Indicator light illuminates, while the Eco Driving Indicator Display shows accelerator operation within the most environmentally-friendly zone. When the use of the accelerator exceeds this zone, the right hand side of the display begins to flash.

RC 300h - Uniquely Quiet and Refined

Benefitting from the high-rigidity bodyshell, and EPS and suspension system enhancements, the RC 300h builds on the model’s ride comfort and handling agility with the uniquely quiet, refined and sophisticated driving experience offered by its full hybrid powertrain.

Over the course of any journey, the Lexus Hybrid Drive system operates in several different modes to maximise the RC 300h’s overall efficiency.

At rest, the engine stops automatically to conserve fuel. Under operating conditions of low engine efficiency such as start-up and low to mid-range speeds, the vehicle runs on the electric motor alone, thus eradicating CO₂, NOx and PM emissions.

Under normal driving conditions, power allocation is constantly adjusted between engine and electric motor to combine optimum performance with maximum fuel efficiency.

During deceleration and under braking, the electric motor acts as a high-output generator to effect regenerative braking. Normally wasted as heat, kinetic energy is recovered as electrical energy for storage in the high performance battery.

The hybrid system’s uniquely smooth electronic, continuously variable transmission features a six step, sequential Shiftmatic override gear change. This configuration delivers all the driving performance expected of a sporting coupe, combined with the excellent fuel economy that is the hallmark of Lexus Hybrid Drive technology.

The RC 300h’s Drive Mode Select system offers a choice of four drive modes to increase the capabilities of the full hybrid powertrain, including a full hybrid-unique, EV mode which allows for ultra-quiet running on electric motor power alone, resulting in zero fuel consumption and CO₂, NOx and PM emissions.

RC F SPORT - Enhanced Handling Performance and Agility

Significantly enhancing handling performance without detriment to ride quality, the RC F SPORT features front and rear suspension systems equipped with an Adaptive Variable Suspension (AVS) and the RC 200t F SPORT, additionally, with the Torsen Limited Slip Differential.

AVS automatically activates adjustable damping force shock absorbers to independently adjust the performance of the suspension at all four wheels, offering drivers the optimum combination of straight line ride comfort and cornering stability.

When SPORT S+ Drive Mode is selected, the AVS system increases the difference between inner and outer shock absorber damping through corners, further reducing body roll.

Advanced Multimedia Systems

Two types of multimedia system are available for use in conjunction with the RC’s high-resolution, 7-inch full-colour display screen - Lexus Display Audio (LDA) and Electro Multi Vision Navigation (EMVN).

With 8-directional joystick control, the LDA system features smartphone linking capabilities that allow customers to use smartphone navigation applications and view the data on the 7-inch display.

The EMVN system has been developed to provide excellent connectivity and enhanced HMI features. It features a multimedia linkage function which offers drivers coordinated system control via both the 4.2-inch Multi-information Display and the 7-inch centre console screen.

The ability to link the EMVN to the Multi-information Display allows the driver to view audio data, mobile phone reception and incoming call information, as well as navigation directions, while also using the cross switch on the steering wheel to select music tracks and place outgoing phone calls. Menus accessed on the display can be customised to the user’s preference.

The CPU of the integral navigation system has high processing power for smooth, fast and accurate operation.

Incorporating automatic screen zoom at intersections, the navigation system features several advanced functions. They include a digital terrain modelling, the accurate replication of motorway signage, speed limit information, a traffic bar for en route congestion information, and urgent traffic event notification.

Via internet connection using the customer’s Bluetooth mobile phone, the system provides access to an on-line Points of Interest search facility from the Google Local Search database, and allows addresses from the Google map website to be added as destinations. The Google link also gives access to Google Street View and Panoramio.

Second generation Remote Touch Interface

The EMVN system is operated via a second generation Lexus Remote Touch Interface (RTI) multi-function control device, which has been enhanced for increased user-friendliness and ease of operation.

The system features touch tracer control. The user moves their fingers over an electrostatic pad, either pressing or double tapping to select a desired function, giving the feel of smartphone operation. Pulsation feedback uses vibration to notify users of nearby on-screen icons, and pinch-in and -out and flick operations also mimic those of a smartphone.

The touch pad has a wide operating area, and features a pleasing surface texture specially developed to ensure smooth finger movement that never feels sticky or rough during operation.

Usability has also been improved through the addition of electrostatic pad surface ambient lighting, and by minimising the difference in height between the RTI controller and the armrest.

Premium Sound Systems

The RC may be equipped with a choice of 6-speaker, 160 W or 10-speaker, 256 W Pioneer sound systems, offering distortion-free, clear sound quality with wide-ranging sonic reproduction, rich presence and natural sound dynamics.

The 10-speaker system features Coherent Source Transducer (CST) technology which integrates the mid-range speaker and tweeter of the left- and right-hand side instrument panel speakers, creating a more natural sound.

The system also automatically compensates for the loss of high frequency sound and other musical detail inherent in the use of compressed sound sources such as MP3 players to create a fuller, richer sound with greater presence.

Both audio systems are equipped with two USB ports, and iPod functionality and interface quality has been enhanced. The audio system can now display album cover art both via iPod and USB port connectivity, on the 7-inch centre console screen.

Mark Levinson Premium Surround System

Available with the RC coupe’s EMVN system, the 17-speaker Mark Levinson Premium Surround System has been developed with an emphasis on high resolution and high musicality, to deliver excellent natural dynamics and rich harmonies in a 360 degree, three-dimensional sonic space.

Despite its compact size, the 835 W system delivers significantly high power and high sound quality, with 5 channel playback. Front centre, front right and left, and rear surround right and left speakers realise optimum consistency of sound quality for every cabin occupant.

The Mark Levinson Premium Surround System also incorporates Signal Doctor, the latest music playback technology, which compensates for the loss of high frequencies and the lack of clarity which can occur when using digital music players and other compressed sound sources, to create a clearer, richer sound, close the original recording quality.

Every Lexus is designed to offer the very highest levels of active, passive and preventive safety. The RC builds on Lexus’ unique Vehicle Dynamics Integrated Management (VDIM) system with a sophisticated, pre-emptive Pre-Crash Safety (PCS) system, which incorporates Adaptive Cruise Control.

Further active safety technology includes a Blind Spot Monitor (BSM), Rear Cross Traffic Alert (RCTA) and Lane Departure Alert (LDA), an Auto Location Tyre Pressure Warning System (AL-TPWS) and an Automatic High Beam (AHB) headlamp system

Within a highly rigid body structure of exceptional car-to-car impact compatibility, eight airbags are fitted as standard, and a pop-up hood design allows for the lowest possible vehicle front profile whilst optimising pedestrian impact protection.

ACTIVE SAFETY

Pre-Crash Safety (PCS)

The RC is equipped with a sophisticated Pre-Crash Safety system (PCS) that can help reduce collision damage and injury. The PCS system features a millimetre-wave radar sensor which can detect obstacles in front of the car, even during cornering. Via numerous sensors, a pre-collision system computer monitors vehicle speed, steering angle and yaw rate inputs to help determine in advance whether an impending collision is unavoidable.

If there is a high possibility of a collision, PCS will alert the driver via both a buzzer and a warning on the Multi-information Display and, when he begins to brake, provide Pre-Crash Brake Assist to supplement his own braking effort. If the driver does not brake and a collision is inevitable, Pre-Crash Brake will automatically apply the brakes in order to prevent the collision or mitigate the force of impact.

Adaptive Cruise Control (ACC)

Complementary to the PCS system, the RC also features an Adaptive Cruise Control (ACC) system. The system offers two modes: constant speed control, and vehicle-to-vehicle distance control.

The constant speed control functions in the manner of a conventional cruise control system. The vehicle speed that can be set ranges from approximately 40 km/h to 200 km/h (and for the RC 300h to 190km/h).

The vehicle-to-vehicle distance control system employs the PCS millimetre-wave radar sensor, allied to constant speed, decelerator, follow-up and accelerator controls, to automatically slow the Lexus, match the speed of the vehicle in front and, once the road is clear ahead, accelerate to the previously selected cruising speed.

Vehicle Dynamics Integrated Management (VDIM)

The RC features the Lexus’ unique, state-of-the-art Vehicle Dynamics Integrated Management (VDIM) system to enhance performance, traction control and vehicle stability.

With comprehensive status data provided by sensors throughout the vehicle, VDIM integrates the RC’s Anti-Lock Brakes (ABS), Electronic Brakeforce Distribution (EBD), Traction Control (TRC) and Vehicle Stability Control (VSC) active safety systems with the Electric Power Steering (EPS) and, where fitted, Adaptive variable Suspension (AVS).

By the application of integrated control of all the elements related to vehicle movement, including motor torque, brakes and steering, VDIM not only optimises the activation of braking, stability and traction control systems, but is also able to further improve the overall kinetic performance of the vehicle.

Moreover, whereas conventional active safety systems are only activated immediately after a limit of the vehicle’s dynamic envelope has been reached, VDIM activates control before that limit is realised. As a result, the limits of the vehicle’s dynamic threshold have been expanded, whilst offering smoother vehicle behaviour at this threshold through less obtrusive intervention and, hence, a more pleasurable drive.

Blind Spot Monitor (BSM)

The upgraded Blind Spot Monitor system uses rear-facing quasi-millimetre-wave radar with a range of up to 60 metres to detect both vehicles in the RC’s blind spots and those approaching rapidly from behind in adjacent lanes. It notifies the driver of either situation by illuminating the BSM icon on the corresponding door mirror. If the turn signal is in operation at the time, the BSM icon will blink.

Rear Cross Traffic Alert (RCTA)

The Rear Cross Traffic Alert system employs the BSM radar to alert the driver backing out of a parking space to approaching vehicles which may not be visible in either the rear view monitor or door mirrors. When approaching vehicles are detected, the system flashes the BSM icons on the door mirrors and sounds a warning buzzer.

Lane Departure Alert (LDA) System

Monitoring road markings with a camera, the Lane Departure Alert (LDA) system helps prevent unintended lane changes by alerting the driver with a warning meter display and buzzer alert when the vehicle deviates from its lane without the operation of the turn signal.

Auto Location Tyre Pressure Warning System (AL-TPWS)

Based on data from a sensor integrated within the tyre air valve assembly, the AL-TPWS indicates pressure values for each of the four tyres via a display located within the driver’s instrument binnacle. When low tyre pressure is detected, the display shows the air pressure of the affected tyre in amber, highlighting the figure.

With a conventional system, the warning lamp will not notify the driver of the specific tyre in question, whereas AL-TPWS clearly indicates which of the four tyres has low-pressure status.

Since sensor data is received the moment the ignition is turned on, the driver can check tyre pressures before starting off. This not only helps enhance fuel economy and tyre longevity, but also contributes to preventive safety by helping to reduce the risk of a flat tyre or similar failure.

Automatic High Beam (AHB)

An Automatic High Beam (AHB) headlamp system maximises visibility at night by automatically switching to low beams when its camera detects the lights of either an oncoming or preceding vehicle.

PASSIVE SAFETY

Body Structure

Reflecting the stringent car-to-car impact compatibility standards unique to the Lexus marque, the RC has been created with the express aim of achieving optimum safety in full-frontal, offset, side-on and rear collisions.

The comprehensive use of high- tensile steel within the body structure optimally transfers and disperses impact load, minimising cabin deformation during a collision and maintaining space for the occupants.

Improving the dispersal of frontal impact load, the RC features a No. 2 member, an enlarged rocker cross-section and a forward projecting rocker structure and a high tensile steel front pillar and rail structure. Further protection in the case of small overlap collisions is provided by the adoption of a torque box and A-shaped brace to protect occupants against impact from the tyre side.

Reducing body deformation by optimally transferring and dispersing impact load, the RC’s side impact absorbing structure includes instrument panel, front header, roof and rear header reinforcement and several floor cross-members. A centre floor cross-member gusset connects the high-tensile steel centre pillar inner structure and the centre floor cross-member to actively transfer load to the cross member.

Anti-rollover performance is assured by the extensive use of high-tensile steel in the front pillar, roof rail and front header construction, combining strength with light weight, and helping to preserve the RC’s low profile design.

Within the cabin itself, additional head, abdomen and hip impact absorbing structures are incorporated within the roof head lining, each pillar, and both the door trim and armrests.

Pedestrian Protection

The RC’s Pop-Up Hood (PUH) design allows for the lowest possible vehicle front profile whilst optimising pedestrian impact protection.

The system uses a sensor in the front bumper to detect that a person has collided with the front of the vehicle. Actuators then immediately pop up the hood, maximising the space between the hood and engine, and allowing the hood to deform in order to absorb the collision impact of the person’s head.

The high-precision sensors and control system ensure that the PUH will not deploy in the event of a collision with a bollard, lamp post or other street furniture.

Airbags

The Lexus RC benefits from eight airbags; dual-stage Supplemental Restraint System (SRS) front airbags, both driver and front passenger knee airbags, front side airbags, and full length side curtain airbags.

The advanced, Supplemental Restraint System controls variable-force front airbags for both driver and front passenger. Sensors determine the severity on an impact and, hence, the force with which the airbags are deployed.

Mated to an 8-speed Sport Direct Shift (SPDS) transmission, the turbo unit adopts numerous sophisticated engine technologies to offer drivers an engaging combination of smoothness, turbo-lag-free throttle responsiveness and fuel-efficiency.

The superior driving dynamics of the new RC 200t may be further enhanced through the availability of an F SPORT version, which is equipped with a Torsen Limited Slip Differential.

Together with the already announced RC 300h, the new RC 200t go on sale throughout Europe at the end of the year.

2.0 Litre Turbo Petrol Engine with 8-Speed SPDS Transmission

Weighing just 160 kg, the remarkably light and compact 2.0 litre turbocharged petrol unit features a unique combination of advanced, ESTEC (Economy with Superior Thermal Efficiency Combustion) engine technologies for increased thermal efficiency through combustion enhancement.

They include a D-4ST (Direct injection 4 stroke gasoline engine Superior version with Turbo) fuel injection system, a twin-scroll turbocharger, a water cooled cylinder head with integrated exhaust manifold, and VVTi-W (Variable Valve Timing-intelligent Wide).

Combining a fast throttle response and high torque at low engine revs with remarkably frugal fuel consumption, the engine develops 245 DIN hp/180 kW and maximum torque of 350 Nm. This equips the RC 200t with a 0-100 km/h acceleration time of 7.5 seconds and a top speed of 230 km/h, allied to a 7.2 l/100 km average fuel consumption and CO2 emissions from 166 g/km.

D-4ST combines high pressure direct cylinder injection with low pressure intake port injection. This achieves optimum, uniform combustion even under high loads and cold during temperatures.

This advanced fuel injection system works in combination with turbocharging to create a high level of compatibility between the 'high tumble ratio' achieved by optimising the shape of both the cylinder head intake ports and the piston tops, and turbo 'boost control'.

The water cooled cylinder head features and integral, four-into-two exhaust manifold. This system pairs cylinders according to their expansion or compression stroke. Acting in conjunction with the highly-efficient, twin-scroll turbocharger, this innovative manifold structure prevents interference between the exhaust gasses from each cylinder, generating high torque across the widest possible rev band.

The adoption of an air-to-liquid intercooler mounted directly to the engine significantly reduces the intake volume downstream of the turbocharger, minimising turbo lag for a rapid throttle response.

The 2.0 turbo unit further benefits from variable valve timing technology which adopts VVT-i on the exhaust valves and VVT-iW on the intake valves. This combines wide open throttle performance with optimised torque delivery throughout the rev range, whilst allowing the engine to start in the Otto cycle and yet run in the more fuel-efficient Atkinson cycle.

The engine drives the rear wheels via an 8-Speed SPDS (Sport Direct Shift) transmission originally developed for the high-performance RC F. Equipped with steering wheel-mounted paddle shifts for manual override, the transmission varies gear shifting in accordance with the G-forces generated. It automatically downshifts during hard braking before a corner, holds a lower gear through the corner, then selects the most suitable gear on corner exit to give the driver greater throttle response.

Superior Driving Dynamics

The driving dynamics of the new RC 200t perfectly reflect Lexus' objective to optimise the ride and handling of its vehicles, offering its customers a more sporting and engaging driving experience.

The foundation of the RC coupe's agility, precise steering response and high levels of mechanical grip is its high rigidity bodyshell, the strength of which is enhanced by numerous specialised Lexus manufacturing techniques including body adhesives, and laser-screw and multi-spot welding.

The RC coupe's front double wishbone and rear multi-link suspension systems have been exclusively tuned for the new 200t, combining well-balanced, agile handling with superior straight line ride comfort.

The RC 200t is equipped with a Drive Mode Select system, offering drivers a choice of SNOW, ECO, NORMAL and SPORT (SPORT S with F SPORT) modes.

RC 200t F SPORT Enhanced Handling Performance

Significantly enhancing handling performance without detriment to ride quality, the RC 200t F SPORT combines exclusively tuned front and rear suspension systems with a Torsen Limited Slip Differential and the Adaptive Variable Suspension (AVS).

Elegant Coupe Styling and Driver-focused Cockpit

The stunning, two-door RC 200t coupe's exterior design features a compact cabin contrasted by aggressively flared wings and body contours etched with deeply sweeping lines. The resultant, powerfully three-dimensional forms constantly change in appearance as you move around the car, creating a striking presence when viewed from any angle.

Befitting the coupe's styling flair, the F SPORT version's 'F' mesh design spindle grille is wider and lower than that of any other Lexus, emphasising the RC's wide, purposeful stance and low centre of gravity. Highlighting the sporting elegance of a coupe, the RC 200t's premium quality interior makes maximum use of contrasting colours, materials and lighting; the latter featuring unique, upward- rather than downward-reflecting ambient illumination.

Featuring an exclusive, highly-supportive, 'integrated foaming' construction sports seat design, the snug, focused and ergonomically superb driver's cockpit is divided into Operational and Display zones, optimising the efficiency of Lexus' advanced on-bard technology.

The upper, Display zone houses the instrument panel; and a 7" multi-information display screen, whilst the lower, Operation zone features a layered centre console which integrates the second generation of Lexus' Remote Touch Interface (RTI).

Launched at the end of 2014, the RC F is a premium sports coupe, born and bred at Japan's famous Fuji Speedway and inspired by the advanced technologies and performance-focused character of the Lexus LFA supercar.

Two RC F GT3s, campaigned by European teams Farnbacher Racing and Emil Frey Racing, finished first and second in the SPX prototype class and 10th and 11th in the overall classification.

Both cars also completed 28 laps of the full Nurburgring endurance racing circuit - the same as the overall winner - in a further confirmation of their pace and consistency.

The result marks a significant milestone for the program to hone the new Lexus RC F GT3 throughout 2015.

Farnbacher Racing and Emil Frey Racing are co-developing the RC F GT3 and will run the vehicle at other events of the VLN, a series of endurance races at the Nurburgring organised by German motoring clubs.

Japan's LM Corsa team is also running an RC F GT3 in the GT 300 class of the 2015 Japanese Super GT championship.

The Lexus RC F GT3 is built to comply with GT3 regulations, which are for grand tourer style racecars that can be campaigned in various championships around the world.

It is based on the Lexus RC F sports coupe but is lower, wider and weighs just 1250kg.

It also features a modified version of the RC F's 5.0-litre V8 engine that produces in excess of 400kW of power (540 horsepower).

The 2014 Paris Motor Show will showcase the new Lexus NX, which marks Lexus' entry into the highly competitive mid-size SUV segment. The new model features a striking design and high-end on-board technology.

The Lexus Press Conference will take place on October 2, at 8:15AM at the Lexus stand in Hall 4.

OUTLINE

The new RC F coupe has Lexus' most powerful V8 engine, with 12% more power than the IS F engine on which it is based.

All-new cylinder heads and lighter moving parts have increased the maximum power of the 5.0-litre 32-valve engine by 54PS (40kW) to 477PS (351kW), with maximum revolutions increased from 6800 to 7300rpm.

The compression ratio has been raised to 12.3:1, to boost torque across the entire revolution range. The engine and transmission cooling systems have been improved, to increase track-day suitability.

The new engine is matched to an evolved 8-speed Sports Direct Shift (SPDS) transmission, with a more linear response to accelerator-pedal operation.

Uniquely for a Lexus performance engine, the new 2UR-GSE engine adopts the Atkinson cycle when operating at cruising speeds, to deliver enhanced fuel economy.

HIGH PERFORMANCE AND FUEL EFFICIENCY

In cruising condition, fuel economy of the RC F is comparable to a 4.2-litre engine at maximum.

The use of the Atkinson cycle is just one of a number of strategies to optimise fuel economy and achieve Euro 6/LEV3-ULEV70 emission compliance.

In the Atkinson cycle, the inlet valves are held open longer than normal to allow a reverse flow of intake air into the intake manifold, thereby decreasing pumping loss and increasing thermal efficiency.

The Lexus VVT-iE (Variable Valve Timing-intelligent Electric motor) technology has been redesigned to extend the range of inlet camshaft timing adjustment for the Atkinson cycle. The Otto cycle is used to achieve RC F's impressive performance levels.

The stoichiometric air/fuel ratio range has been expanded to 220km/h, for a substantial increase in practical fuel economy during performance and high speed driving.

The new engine was designed to provide instantaneous torque, as in the Lexus LFA, whereby the driver can feel torque output increasing during acceleration.

Special features of the RC F engine also include titanium valves, forged connecting rods, an optimised exhaust layout to more effectively harness exhaust pulses and an air-cooled oil cooler for optimum durability. Internal engine parts have been redesigned to reduce reciprocating and hence increase engine response and revolutions.

The majority of the engine parts are new, including the intake manifold and throttle body, intake and exhaust valve train, motor-driven VVT, cylinder head and cylinder-head cover, Lexus D-4S dual injection system, spark plugs, piston and piston rings, connecting rod, crankshaft, crank main bearing and cap, exhaust manifold and heat insulator, oil pan and baffle plate, alternator clutch system, and engine and transmission oil coolers.

The 2UR-GSE engine's breathing has been improved thanks to new cylinder heads with improved porting and a high-flow/high tumble ratio. In addition, intake surge-tank capacity has been optimised, as have the intake manifold length and diameter.

The throttle diameter has been increased from 76 to 83mm. New four-into-two exhaust headers reduce interference and hence further improve engine breathing.

A new intake camshaft profile increases valve lift and suits the Atkinson cycle, while improvements to the electronic VVT-i system have expanded its range of operation for increased fuel economy and performance.

The exhaust system features large diameter front pipes to minimise back pressure and ensure high power output. The merged areas of the exhaust pipes have been enlarged to achieve a clearer engine sound.

Additionally the structure of the main muffler has been optimised to achieve both quietness at low rpms and dynamic volume at mid-to-high rpms.

The Lexus D-4S dual-injection system has been redesigned, with higher injection pressure of 18Mpa and improved fuel atomisation shape, to optimise power and fuel economy while minimising emissions. RC F has a lot of fuel-saving measures, from its aerodynamic body and dual VVT-i equipped engine to its highly efficient eight-speed transmission.

The engine design also includes measures to raise engine revolutions, including titanium inlet and exhaust valves, new high-strength forged connecting rods and new main-bearing materials. Crank pin diameter, connecting rods big-end bearing size and crank counter-weight size have all been reduced, to lower reciprocating weight.

A revised oil pan baffle shape has reduced agitation and hence friction, while new air-to-oil coolers for the engine oil and transmission fluid increase circuit driveability. As a final touch, the new 2UR-GSE engine has a one-way clutch on the alternator pulley.

8-SPEED SPDS TRANSMISSION

The RC F coupe has an improved 8-speed Sports Direct Shift (SPDS) transmission. The transmission control program has been refined, to suit the higher engine speeds of RC F's new engine and deliver a more linear response to accelerator pedal action and hence a more dynamic feeling to driving the new sports coupe.

The transmission provides a balance of linear acceleration, optimum fuel economy and driveability under all conditions, and smooth shift feel.

It has five driver-selectable modes — ECO, NORMAL, SPORT S, SPORT S+, and M mode, which has full torque-converter lock-up from second to eighth gears for 'clutchless' manual shifting.

Up changes are made in just 0.1 of a second at minimum case in M Mode, with the transmission's throttle blipping control matching the engine speed to the gear.

The transmission SPORT S mode includes G-sensor AI-Shift control, which uses information from the vehicle's G-sensors on driving status to provide the optimal gear ratio for sporty driving. In SPORT S mode, the transmission offers more dynamic acceleration control and hence a more sporting driving experience.

In addition to performing quicker downshifts than SPORT S mode, by holding the engine at a higher speed, SPORT S+ mode helps to achieve dynamic driving under high load conditions such as when driving on the race circuit.

The transmission will automatically downshift during hard braking for a corner, hold a lower gear through the corner for greater control, and then give the driver a greater power response on corner exit by selecting a suitable low gear.

NORMAL mode provides the fuel economy and seamless acceleration traditionally associated with a Lexus electronically-controlled transmission. It uses the eight ratios for optimum fuel economy, while coordinating control with the throttle to provide smooth acceleration with minimum feeling of gear changes.

The 2014 Moscow Motor Show (MIAS) will hold the European Premiere of the new Lexus NX, which marks Lexus' entry into the highly competitive compact SUV segment. The new model with its striking design and high-end on-board technology had its World Premiere on April 20 at the Beijing Motor Show.

The new NX will be available in Russia with three powertrains: NX 200 with 2.0l naturally aspirated petrol engine with CVT transmission, NX 200t with Lexus first, newly developed 2.0l turbo petrol engine and a new 6-speed automatic transmission and NX 300h, equipped with a 2.5l-engined full hybrid powertrain. The NX will be offered with Front — and All-Wheel Drive systems.

Furthermore, Lexus will hold the Russian Premiere of the RC Coupe with its emotional, dynamic design, 3.5l V6 engine and 8-speed automatic transmission. Also the Sport Coupe RC F, featuring the most powerful Lexus V8 engine will be shown in Russia for the first time.

The new Lexus RC F makes its European debut at the 2014 Geneva motor show, and will go on sale throughout Europe this autumn.

The strikingly aggressive RC F features a new 5.0-litre engine developing well in excess of 450 DIN hp and more than 520 Nm of torque, making it the most powerful V8 performance car yet developed by Lexus.

Harnessing this power with optimum efficiency, the RC F combines a newly calibrated eight-speed transmission with the world's first installation of a Torque Vectoring Differential (TVD) in a front-engined rear-drive sports coupe, enhancing traction and control to guarantee extraordinary levels of handling and performance.

'There's a perception that racing cars are hard to drive' said Lexus RC F Chief Engineer, Yukihiko Yaguchi. In fact, they're easy in the right hands because they've been purpose-built for the skill level of their drivers. It's the same with RC F, which I have built to be enjoyed by all enthusiasts, no matter what their level of expertise. Electronics can be modified instantly on board to provide levels of performance and protection appropriate to each driver's abilities. But even in its basic settings, it's a blast.'

ALL-NEW HIGH-PERFORMANCE 5.0-LITRE V8 

The most powerful Lexus V8 F model yet built features an all-new 5.0-liter, 32 valve engine which develops in excess of 450 hp and more than 520 Nm of torque. The cylinder heads and all moving parts are newly designed to provide increased maximum power at higher engine revolutions than has previously been possible.

For the first time in a Lexus performance engine, the RC F uses the Atkinson cycle at cruising speeds for enhanced fuel economy, and then switches to the Otto cycle at higher revolutions to realise impressive performance levels.

Developed exclusively for the RC F, every aspect of the powertrain has been specifically designed to deliver the highest possible levels of driver engagement, including the transmission and exhaust systems.

The uniquely calibrated eight-speed Sports Direct Shift (SPDS) transmission improves linear response to accelerator-pedal operation, for more precise driver control of power and torque delivery.

A new system of regulating induction and exhaust sound further enhances driver involvement, creating a deep tone up to 3000rpm, and a pleasing, higher-pitched tone as revolutions rise freely above 6000rpm under hard acceleration.

UNIQUE TORQUE VECTORING DIFFERENTIAL

Designed to further heighten driving enjoyment through the greater usability promoted by enhanced traction and control, the Lexus RC F incorporates a Torque Vectoring Differential (TVD).

The TVD has three operating modes:

- STANDARD, for a balance of agile performance and high-speed stability

- SLALOM, for an emphasis on nimble response to steering inputs

- TRACK, for consistent, stable cornering behaviour whilst circuit driving, with optimum driver control -a newly calibrated VDIM adds a vertical G-sensor to provide even greater vehicle stability

SUPERB DRIVING DYNAMICS

The foundation for the new RC F's outstanding mechanical grip is its high rigidity body, which features large cross-section rocker panels and a highly rigid front lower brace. Numerous specialised Lexus manufacturing techniques further enhance rigidity, including body adhesives, laser-screw welding and multi-spot welding. Grip is further enhanced through the use of a wider tyre and wheel assembly.

The RC F is equipped with coil-sprung independent suspension systems to both front and rear, incorporating monotube gas dampers and ball-jointed stabiliser bars. Unsprung weight is lowered by the adoption of 19-inch forged aluminium alloy wheels which minimise the wheel assembly mass whilst maximising rigidity.

As in the Lexus' LFA supercar, an active rear wing is incorporated into the boot lid to provide down force at speeds of more than 80kmh. The wing is a highlight of the RC F's comprehensive aerodynamic grip and stability package, which also includes careful tuning of the flat underbody, race-bred air-management ducts to the rear of the front bumper and front fenders, and the strategic placement of aero stabilising fins.

AGGRESSIVE F PERFORMANCE STYLING

The Lexus RC F is instantly identifiable by the visual dynamism it adds to the stylish design of the new RC on which it is based.

It features its own version of the Lexus signature spindle grille which dominates the front of the vehicle, with a subtle 'F' motif embedded in the mesh below the Lexus symbol.

Adding further visual strength, the bonnet front is higher than that of the RC, creating a powerful, flared profile appropriate to an F model. This striking profile is further enhanced by a choice of three, 10-spoke 19" forged aluminium wheels, one version of which is hand polished by Lexus craftsmen.

The RC F takes certain design cues from the Lexus LFA supercar, most notably in the application of essential air cooling and aerodynamic devices. Bonnet air outlets such as those on the LFA combine with front cooling ducts, contributing to engine cooling and overall vehicle stability.

To the side, air outlet ducts at the rear of the front fender further aid engine and brake cooling performance, merging with side sill extensions to form a powerful 'L' shape.

To the rear, trapezoidally-stacked quad-outlet exhaust outlets add further visual impact to the RC F's broad, aggressive stance.

LIGHTWEIGHT CARBON FIBRE PACKAGE

Drawing on experience gained by Lexus from the LFA and the IS F CCS-R limited-edition racing car, the weight of the new RC F has been minimised by the adoption of a comprehensive package of carbon fibre parts. Carbon fibre elements include the roof, bonnet and active rear wing.

HIGHLY DRIVER-FOCUSED RC F INTERIOR DESIGN

The driver-focused RC F interior features numerous uniquely designed components, including the instrument meters, steering wheel, seats, pedals and trim, engaging drivers with the high levels of comfort, support and ergonomic excellence appropriate to a high-performance Lexus F model.

The RC F's all-new, F-exclusive instrument meters represent a further development of the LFA's switchable, driving mode-dependent central dial. The design is inspired by aircraft cockpit instrumentation, in providing a wide range of information in clear, concise form which is easily read at a glance.

This information includes a large, centrally-mounted tachometer that alters according to driving mode, digital and analogue speed readouts, a differential torque vectoring monitor, a G-Force meter, oil and water temperature gauges, mileage information and even a stopwatch.

An ergonomically ideal driver/machine interface is fundamental to Lexus F performance models. The RC F debuts a Lexus-first elliptical cross-section, thick grip steering wheel which offers greater control during performance driving. The placement, shape and operation of the wheel's paddle shifters have also been optimised for fast, accurate gear changes during all forms of performance driving.

Styled on close-fitting athletic sportswear, all-new high-back seats feature Lexus' integrated foaming technique, which achieves a cosseting, highly supportive fit and does not suffer from movement between the seat padding and trim.

The new Lexus RC coupe makes its European debut at the 2014 Geneva motor show, which also marks the World premiere of the F SPORT version.

The aggressively styled coupe will be available with a choice of two powertrains: a 2.5 litre version of Lexus' full hybrid drive system, the RC 300h, to be launched throughout Europe during the course of 2015, and a 3.5 litre V6 mated to an eight-speed sequential transmission in Russia at the end of 2014.

First revealed at the 2013 Tokyo motor show, the RC is a stand-alone model, rather than a two-door derivative of a sedan. Based on the GS platform, it differs in all dimensions from the GS and IS model lines.

The new RC model range features the latest Lexus advanced technology developments, including a new, touch-operated Remote Touch Interface (RTI), and a Lexus-first, upgraded Blind Spot Monitor (BSM) safety system.

Attracting a younger customer base, the new RC model range raises Lexus' profile with a broader audience. The purity of its design and its engaging driving experience inject even more emotional appeal into a Lexus DNA already renowned for build quality, refinement and reliability.

NEW F SPORT MODEL

Based on the striking Lexus RC, the RC 300h F SPORT and the RC 350 F SPORT will feature exclusive, even more sporting and aggressive exterior and interior design features, and enhanced driving dynamics.

Building on the Lexus enhanced ride and handling characteristics delivered by the RC and the GS and IS models before it, the F SPORT's dynamic upgrades take the form of exclusively tuned front and rear suspension systems, the availability of Adaptive Variable Suspension (AVS) with the SPORTS+ driving mode and the Lexus Dynamic Handling (LDH) system, providing drivers with an even more rewarding and engaging driving experience.

STUNNING TWO-DOOR COUPE EXTERIOR DESIGN

The design features a compact cabin contrasted by aggressively flared wings and body contours etched with deeply sweeping lines.

Readily identified by a model-specific 'F' mesh design, the front of F SPORT models features a further evolution of the Lexus spindle grille. Befitting the coupe's styling flair, the grille is wider and lower than that of other Lexus models. Perfectly integrating design and function, it incorporates both fog lamps and air intakes for brake cooling.

The RC's compact, triangular headlamp design evokes the sporting characteristics of the LF-LC concept. Each light cluster in the simultaneously-illuminating, three-lamp design contains both high and low beam lamps. The Lexus trademark L-shaped design of the low beam lamps combines with the independently located LED Daytime Running Lights (DRL) to give the new RC an aggressive, sporting and entirely unique visual signature.

The sharp, narrow design of the rear combination lamp also adopts a new evolution of the Lexus L-shaped motif. Previous designs have presented this motif as a graphic element within the lamp unit. By contrast, the RC unit raises the tail and stop lamps to form a strongly three-dimensional L-shape.

In addition, the seamless lighting method of previous models has been replaced by a glittering, gem-like illumination created by an inner lens with multi-layered surface serrations, awarding RC models an equally unique rear light signature.

The new Lexus RC may be fitted with a choice of 5-spoke 18" or 10-spoke 19" aluminium alloy wheels. The F SPORT model range combines model-specific badging with a unique 19" F SPORT alloy wheel design which features an outer, machine-finished 10-spoke layer offset over an inner 10-spoke layer finished in a dark metallic paint.

The RC will be available in a choice of 7 exterior colours, including a new Red which features an innovative painting process. The multi-layered process includes a silver base coat which gives the paint brighter highlights and darker shading for a deeper, richer finish. Three additional colours —White Nova, Orange and Blue- are exclusive to the F SPORT model range.

UNIQUE INTERIOR DESIGN

The new RC interior is strongly influenced by Lexus' recent sports concept vehicles. Highlighting the sporting elegance of a coupe, makes maximum use of contrasting colours, materials and lighting.

A purpose-built, Lexus-first lighting package features unique, upward rather than downward reflecting ambient illumination, enveloping the cabin. High contrast interior colours accentuate the layered design of the centre console and door trim, and genuine Shimamoku wood highlights —the result of a painstaking, layered wood production technique refined by Lexus- are used to emphasise the surrounding trim.

Contrast stitching to the seats, centre console trim and generous knee pads adds a high quality accent to the interior design whilst further enhancing the holding performance of the seat upholstery.

The snug, highly-focused driver's cockpit is divided into Operational and Display zones. The upper, Display zone houses the instrument panel and a 7" display screen, whilst the lower, Operation zone features a layered centre console which integrates the new Lexus' Remote Touch Interface (RTI).

An exclusive, highly supportive sports seat design uses an 'integrated foaming' construction method, allowing for the moulding of large concave surfaces with no gaps between the seat upholstery and the foam padding to combine excellent comfort with outstanding lateral holding performance.

F SPORT models inherit a descendant of the innovative LFA driver's meter with a moving centre ring, and an F SPORT steering wheel and shift knob finished in perforated leather. The F SPORT-exclusive interior design is completed by Wedge Metal ornamentation, which uses thinly machined metal sections with a precision, 3D surface treatment, aluminium pedals and scuff plates and sporting black roof lining.

The interior may be finished in a total of 5, high-brightness and high-contrast colour schemes, including a newly developed Clove, which accentuates the sporting elegance of the cabin, and an F SPORT-exclusive Dark Rose finish.

SUPERB DRIVING DYNAMICS 

It is Lexus' objective to significantly improve the ride and handling of their vehicles, offering its customers a more sporting and engaging driving experience. And the new RC builds on the improvements already realised in the GS and IS model ranges.

The foundation of the RC's agility and high levels of mechanical grip is its high rigidity body, which features large cross-section rocker panels almost twice the size of those in the new IS, and a highly rigid front lower brace connecting the left and right sides of the underbody. Numerous specialised Lexus manufacturing techniques further enhance rigidity, including body adhesives, laser-screw welding and additional spot welding.

Both the front double wishbone and rear multi-link suspension systems have been exclusively tuned for F SPORT models, enhancing RC handling performance without detriment to ride quality.

An Adaptive Variable Suspension (AVS) system is available with the F SPORT package.

The AVS allows the driver to fine tune the F SPORT's ride characteristics with a choice of two damper settings; NORMAL, for everyday driving comfort, and SPORT, for improved body control and precise responses to steering input while cornering. In response to driving operation, vehicle body motion and road surface conditions, AVS automatically adjusts the performance of the suspension at all four wheels independently activates the adjustable damping force shock absorbers to fulfil a wide range of specific control functions such as increasing the difference between inner and outer shock absorber damping through corners to further reduce vehicle roll.

The suspension enhancements of RC 350 F SPORT model are complimented by the four-wheel steering benefits of the Lexus Dynamic Handling (LDH) system. This leading edge platform technology integrates the vehicle's Dynamic Rear Steering (DRS), Variable Gear Ratio Steering (VGRS) and Electric Power Steering (EPS), coordinating every aspect of front and rear wheel control to provide agile, sharp and confident driving behaviour with a more direct response to the driver's actions.

Monitoring vehicle speed, steering direction and driver inputs, LDH calculates the optimum angle for all four wheels. Using VGRS to the front and DRS to the rear, the system can independently control both front and rear wheel steering angles to greatly improve turn-in response, rear grip, vehicle stability and overall agility when cornering.

The DRS system monitors vehicle speed and yaw rate, steering angle and speed, and lateral G force to calculate the required steering input. The front and rear wheels turn in opposite directions at lower speeds, and in the same direction at higher speeds.

The RC F SPORT features an upgraded LDH system in which, when steering in the opposite direction at initial turn-in, the maximum angle of the rear wheels has been increased for even greater responsiveness and agility.

Comprehensive aerodynamic measures, most notably to the underbody, and the introduction of ducts and aero-stabilising fins to the front bumper, further contribute to the high speed stability of the RC model range.

TWO ADVANCED POWERTRAINS

The full hybrid variant, the RC 300h, combines a 2.5 litre, dual-injection 4-cylinder petrol engine generating 178 DIN hp/131 kW at 6,000 rpm and peak torque of 221 Nm between 4,200 and 4,800 rpm with a 143 DIN hp/105 kW electric motor, delivering maximum system power of 220 DIN hp/162 kW.

The hybrid system's electronic continuously variable transmission features a six step, sequential shiftmatic manual override gear change. This configuration delivers all the driving engagement expected of a sporting coupe, combined with the excellent fuel economy that is the hallmark of Lexus Hybrid Drive.

The RC 350 is equipped with a 3.5 litre, direct-injection V6 which produces maximum power of 318 DIN hp/234 kW at 6,400 rpm and peak torque of 380 Nm at 4,800 rpm, delivering optimum power and responsive acceleration throughout the rev band.

The V6 unit is mated to a further evolution of Lexus 8-speed Sport Direct Shift (SDS) sequential transmission with manual override, adapted from the IS F. The transmissions shift control has been enhanced to respond precisely to even the slightest changes in accelerator pedal operation and, in Manual mode, full torque converter lock-up from second to eighth gears allows for ultra-fast down changes in just 0.2 of a second.

RC drivers further benefit from an intake sound generator which creates a more sporting engine note. The sound creator uses a muffler to emphasise the depth of sound when starting off, and a damper that amplifies the vibration of the intake pulse under acceleration, introducing it as a pleasing note into the cabin to heighten the sporting driving experience.

STATE-OF- THE-ART TECHNOLOGY

The new RC model range incorporates the latest advances in HMI (Human Machine Interface) technology in the form of a new, touch-operated Remote Touch Interface (RTI), and is the first Lexus model to incorporate an upgraded Blind Spot Monitor (BSM) safety system.

A new, touch-sensitive Lexus Remote Touch Interface (RTI) multi-function control device offers the driver simple, fast and intuitive multimedia system operation. Simply moving a finger over the panel's surface moves the cursor, and pressing down on it enters the selection.

An integrated feedback function vibrates the surface of the touch pad when the cursor moves over an icon, allowing the driver to confirm cursor movement without looking at the display.

Illuminated to create a three-dimensional appearance after dark, the touch pad has a wide operating area, and features a pleasing surface texture specially developed to ensure smooth finger movement that never feels sticky or rough during operation.

An upgraded Lexus Blind Spot Monitor (BSM) system detects vehicles that are approaching the rear of the car at a higher speed and from a greater distance. When the BSM system detects other vehicles travelling behind the RC, an indicator light in the corresponding mirror alerts the driver to the presence of such a vehicle.

Lexus has today revealed the high performance version of its new RC coupe, the RC F, at the North American International Auto Show, 25 years after the very first Lexus car, the LS 400, was launched in Detroit in 1989.

The strikingly aggressive RC F features a new 5.0-litre engine developing well in excess of 450 DIN hp and more than 520 Nm of torque, making it the most powerful V8 performance car yet developed by Lexus.

'There's a false perception that racing cars are hard to drive. In fact, they're easy in the right hands because they've been purpose-built for the skill level of their drivers. It's the same with RC F. Electronics can be modified instantly on board to provide appropriate levels of performance and protection. But even at its basic setting, it's a blast.'

ALL-NEW HIGH-PERFORMANCE 5.0-LITRE V8 

The most powerful Lexus V8 F model yet built features an all-new 5.0-liter, 32 valve engine which develops in excess of 450 hp and more than 520 Nm of torque. The cylinder heads and all moving parts are newly designed to provide increased maximum power at higher engine revolutions than has previously been possible.

For the first time in a Lexus performance engine, the RC F uses the Atkinson cycle at cruising speeds for enhanced fuel economy, and then switches to the Otto cycle at higher revolutions to realise impressive performance levels.

Developed exclusively for the RC F, every aspect of the powertrain has been specifically designed to deliver the highest possible levels of driver engagement, including the transmission and exhaust systems.

The uniquely calibrated eight-speed Sports Direct Shift (SPDS) transmission improves linear response to accelerator-pedal operation, for more precise driver control of power and torque delivery.

A new system of regulating induction and exhaust sound further enhances driver involvement, creating a deep tone up to 3000rpm, and a pleasing, higher-pitched tone as revolutions rise freely above 6000rpm under hard acceleration.

UNIQUE TORQUE VECTORING DIFFERENTIAL

Designed to further heighten driving enjoyment through the greater usability promoted by enhanced traction and control, the Lexus RC F incorporates the world's first front-engined rear-drive installation of a Torque Vectoring Differential (TVD).

The TVD has three operating modes:

• STANDARD, for a balance of agile performance and high-speed stability
• SLALOM, for an emphasis on nimble response to steering inputs
• TRACK, for consistent, stable cornering behaviour whilst circuit driving, with optimum driver control -a newly calibrated VDIM adds a vertical G-sensor to provide even greater vehicle stability

SUPERB DRIVING DYNAMICS

The foundation for the new RC F's outstanding mechanical grip is its high rigidity body, which features large cross-section rocker panels and a highly rigid front lower brace. Numerous specialised Lexus manufacturing techniques further enhance rigidity, including body adhesives, laser-screw welding and multi-spot welding. Grip is further enhanced through the use of a wider tyre and wheel assembly.

The RC F is equipped with coil-sprung independent suspension systems to both front and rear, incorporating monotube gas dampers and ball-jointed stabiliser bars. Unsprung weight is lowered by the adoption of 19-inch forged aluminium alloy wheels which minimise the wheel assembly mass whilst maximising rigidity.

As in the Lexus' LFA supercar, an active rear wing is incorporated into the boot lid to provide down force at speeds of more than 80kmh. The wing is a highlight of the RC F's comprehensive aerodynamic grip and stability package, which also includes careful tuning of the flat underbody, race-bred air-management ducts to the rear of the front bumper and front fenders, and the strategic placement of aero stabilising fins.

AGGRESSIVE F PERFORMANCE STYLING

The Lexus RC F is instantly identifiable by the visual aggression it adds to the stylish design of the new RC coupe on which it is based.

It features its own version of the Lexus signature spindle grille which dominates the front of the vehicle, with a subtle 'F' motif embedded in the mesh below the Lexus symbol.

Adding further visual aggression, the bonnet front is higher than that of the RC, creating a powerful, flared profile appropriate to an F model. This striking profile is further enhanced by a choice of three, 10-spoke 19" forged aluminium wheels, one version of which is hand polished by Lexus craftsmen.

The RC F takes certain design cues from the Lexus LFA supercar, most notably in the application of essential air cooling and aerodynamic devices. Bonnet air outlets such as those on the LFA combine with front cooling ducts, contributing to engine cooling and overall vehicle stability.

To the side, air outlet ducts at the rear of the front fender further aid engine and brake cooling performance, merging with side sill extensions to form a powerful 'L' shape.

To the rear, trapezoidally-stacked quad-outlet exhaust outlets add further visual impact to the RC F's broad, aggressive stance.

LIGHTWEIGHT CARBON FIBRE PACKAGE

Drawing on experience gained by Lexus from the LFA and the IS F CCS-R limited-edition racing car, the weight of the new RC F has been minimised by the adoption of a comprehensive package of carbon fibre parts. Carbon fibre elements include the roof, bonnet and active rear wing.

HIGHLY DRIVER-FOCUSED RC F INTERIOR DESIGN

The driver-focused RC F interior features numerous uniquely designed components, including the instrument meters, steering wheel, seats, pedals and trim, engaging drivers with the high levels of comfort, support and ergonomic excellence appropriate to a high-performance Lexus F model.

The RC F's all-new, F-exclusive instrument meters represent a further development of the LFA's switchable, driving mode-dependent central dial. The design is inspired by aircraft cockpit instrumentation, in providing a wide range of information in clear, concise form which is easily read at a glance.

This information includes a large, centrally-mounted tachometer that alters according to driving mode, digital and analogue speed readouts, a differential torque vectoring monitor, a G-Force meter, oil and water temperature gauges, mileage information and even a stopwatch.

An ergonomically ideal driver/machine interface is fundamental to Lexus F performance models. The RC F debuts a Lexus-first elliptical cross-section, thick grip steering wheel which offers greater control during performance driving. The placement, shape and operation of the wheel's paddle shifters have also been optimised for fast, accurate gear changes during all forms of performance driving.

Styled on close-fitting athletic sportswear, all-new high-back seats feature Lexus' integrated foaming technique, which achieves a cosseting, highly supportive fit and does not suffer from movement between the seat padding and trim.

"The form of each component is carefully designed to contribute to performance," Lexus RC F chief engineer Yukihiko Yaguchi said. "Unique air outlets in the hood and rear section of the front fenders contribute to optimum engine cooling and handling stability. They create an aggressive look that immediately conveys the expectation of a dynamic driving experience."

EXTERIOR DESIGN

The signature Lexus spindle grille dominates the front of the RC F, with a subtle 'F' motif embedded in the mesh below the Lexus symbol. As well, the bonnet is higher than that of the RC and it helps create a powerful flared profile suited to an F model. Ducts beneath the front bumper and fenders and strategically placed aerodynamic stabilising fins create a stance which further identifies the F model.

Air outlets at the rear of the front fender form the shape of an L when they merge with side sill extensions, while stacked trapezoidal quad-outlet tailpipes at the rear add further aggression.

The RC F has taken design cues from the Lexus supercar LFA. An active rear wing deploys from the RC F's deck at 80km/h and retracts at less than 40km/h to enhance the coupe's lines at standstill.

Three variations of 10-spoke 19" forged aluminium wheels are available by grade. Two are machine polished and on the High Plus grade the wheels are hand polished by a craftsmen.

INTERIOR DESIGN

The striking cockpit-like interior of Lexus RC F complements the aggressive exterior. Unique components include the meters, steering wheel, seats, ornamentation and pedals. The instrument panel is dominated by a switchable central dial which changes according to the four selectable driving modes. The information, colour of the display and size of text all alter.

Occupant comfort is all important. RC F debuts a Lexus-first elliptical cross-section thick-grip steering wheel with optimum placement of paddle gear shifts while all-new high back seats with an embossed F on the headrests have been styled to resemble tight-fitting athletic sportswear and to offer similar levels of support. The seats are available in a selection of five leather trims, each with contrasting stitching.

Outstanding new L-shaped rubber slits in the brake and accelerator pedals combine form and function to provide better foot grip.

The car will be revealed at the North American International Auto Show and a press conference will be held on the Lexus stand at 8:45am EST (14:45pm CET), January 14^th 2014.

Engineered from scratch, one performance layer at a time, the newest F model promises a bold, gritty, experience synonymous with the famed Lexus F heritage.

RC is part of a ride and handling revolution at Lexus, which started with GS and continued with the new IS. It is a stand-alone model, rather than a two-door derivative of a sedan. Based on the GS platform, the coupe differs in all dimensions from the GS and IS lines.

The aggressively styled coupe will be available with two powertrains: 3.5L V6 teamed with an eight-speed sequential transmission and 2.5L hybrid system.

Chief engineer Junichi Furuyama, also in charge of the IS line, said RC was intended to engage with owners on an emotional level: "Motoring enthusiasts have always aspired to own coupes for one reason: coupes look cool — sexy even. We developed RC to deliver extra response that exhilarates rather than overwhelms drivers, in keeping with the true spirit of Japanese hospitality, or omotenashi."

Lexus International executive vice president Mark Templin said growing the emotional appeal of Lexus will allow the brand to engage with a broader audience. "Our focus is to strengthen the brand's emotional appeal through our products and RC is another demonstration of this focus," Mr Templin said. "The emotional attachment of a coupe is found in its purity of design and its engaging driving experience, and with RC the engineers have achieved the balance."

EXTERIOR DESIGN

The RC has been infused with deeply contoured lines, integrating the widest and lowest application yet of the Lexus spindle grille. It is unique in the Lexus range — 30mm wider, 35mm lower and 70mm shorter in wheelbase than the new IS line, providing a road stance that emphasizes the attraction of a luxury two-door vehicle.

The unique headlamp design adopts the symbolic Lexus L-shaped motif front and rear. There are two choices of aluminium wheels — a deeply sculpted 10-spoke 19-inch and a muscular five-spoke 18-inch.

The hero colour is red — a brighter, more contrasting shade made possible by a new painting process.

INTERIOR DESIGN

Highly acclaimed sports concept vehicles have greatly influenced the RC interior, making maximum use of contrasting colours, materials and lighting.

A purpose-built Lexus-first lighting package provides a great sense of uniqueness, with illumination that reflects upwards, rather than downwards, to envelope the cabin. High contrast interior colours emphasize design lines and accentuate the elegant cabin. Genuine shimamoku wood highlights — the result of an intense, layered wood production technique refined by Lexus — are used to emphasize the surrounding trim.

The driver's cockpit is divided into operational and display zones. The upper zone houses the instrument panel and a seven-inch navigation screen while a layered centre console integrates a new Lexus first Remote Touch Interface.

Importantly for a coupe, the seats utilize an integrated foaming construction method, much like the moulding of racing seats, to ensure optimum occupant comfort and support.

DRIVING DYNAMICS

The RC's strong and purpose-built chassis is the latest evolution of Lexus' objective to achieve a world class driving experience, epitomized by the improved performance of both the GS and IS lines.

Extra thick underbody rocker panels greatly increase the two-door's rigidity to support driving performance. New manufacturing techniques pioneered in the LS and IS models, including the use of body adhesives, have strengthened the chassis.

Aerodynamic aids, especially on the underbody, contribute to the handling package.

RC uses double wishbone front suspension and multi-link suspension at the rear.

LEXUS RC COUPE POWERTRAINS

Specific power output per litre of the RC is second only to the super-sports LFA in the Lexus range.

The dual injection 3.5-liter V6 petrol engine produces maximum power of 234 kW (318 DIN hp) at 6,400 rpm, and peak torque of 380 Nm (38.7kgm・f) at 4800 rpm.

An eight-speed Sports Direct Shift with paddle shift transmission adapted from the IS F optimizes power delivery and economy. In M (manual) mode full torque converter lock up from second to eighth gears allows for down changes in just 0.2 sec.

The hybrid variant — the first Lexus hybrid coupe — uses a dual-injected 2.5-liter four cylinder engine with a 105kW (143 DIN hp) electric motor driven through an electronic continuously variable transmission with six step gears in a sequential shift-matic feature.

Depending on market requirement, the RC coupe will drive either through its rear wheels or be available in all weather (AWD) configuration.

The sound generated by the engine has been tuned to ensure it delivers a stirring note under spirited driving conditions.

ADVANCED TECHNOLOGY

Advanced technology includes upgraded Blind Spot Monitor and new Remote Touch Interface (RTI).

RC is the first Lexus to adopt the upgraded Blind Spot Monitor system which detects vehicles that are approaching from behind at a higher speed and from a greater distance than is covered by the current system.

The innovative touch-sensitive Lexus Remote Touch Interface for audio and navigation systems is particularly important in a coupe in which tactile reaction is a desirable part of the driving experience.
